The calmness in Laeo’s voice made it deafening.

The man spoke, his words trying to justify what Quin had just done. Laeo’s hand felt heavy on his shoulder. He was right in a way, he had been defending his friends, at least in the beginning. But Quin had struck the final blow when the man had been unarmed, defenseless. That wasn’t what a good Jedi would have done.

He looked at Laeonas as the older Padawan detailed the options they had to move forward. When he mentioned the first, Quin couldn’t help looking back at the motionless trooper on the ground, dead by his hand. Could he handle more of that, if it meant completing the mission? Half of him wanted to say yes, that it was more important to finish what they’d started, but the other said no. And when Laeo talked about cutting their losses for today, Quin found himself nodding.

“Okay,” he managed to say before he turned around toward where the rest of the group was. “Then let’s get out of here.” Gathering himself again, he followed Ranger Mead back toward Ruzaan and Elidan, just in time to see Ruzaan passing out again after exclaiming that he was better. That gave him another surge of fear, overpowering his guilt for the moment.

Quin ran over to his friend, and just as he was about to try to wake him up somehow, the other Padawan came to and tried to get up again. Quin did what he could to keep him steady as he did.

“Whoa. You need to be careful, Ruz,” he said. “Let me help you.”

When Elidan heard Ranger Mead say that they could leave with him, the boy felt relieved. After all that happened, he didn’t want to stay at this place any longer. They nearly died fighting these Stormtroopers. The half-Annfyn doubted that they would fare any better if they tried to continue with this mission.

He watched Ruzaan trying to walk, in an attempt to give the impression that he was fine and would be able to continue. The Togruta was always persistent, never wanting to abandon a mission. However, this time he wasn't in any condition to continue. He was hit by most of the blaster shots, Elidan doubted that he was really fine.

In the end, the half-Annfyn was right. He watched his friend give some steps before falling back to the ground. Ruzaan needed a doctor immediately. Elidan wasn’t sure if the Togruta would remain alive for much time if his wounds weren’t treated. They needed to leave this place as fast as possible.

I’ll go with him.” Elidan said, before Laeonas or Quin could say their opinion. He wasn’t afraid of talking with the other Padawans anymore, after all that happened his shyness was the last thing that crossed his mind at the moment. And since he lost some fingers, it was also impossible for him to use sign language too.

While Quin helped Ruzaan get up, Elidan would try to move. In other circumstances, he would have helped the Togruta. Since he lost his left hand, the half-Annfyn would need help getting up from the floor. He would gesture for Laeonas, showing him his good hand in an attempt to show that he wanted the other to hold it so he could get up.

With frantic energy coming from deep within, the desperate group of Jedi and their allies make their way from depths of the underground facility. As they do, they all gradually begin to notice the facility seeming to come alive around them. Even Ruzaan, as hard as it is for him to concentrate through the pain and bouts of unconsciousness, notices the way that the plants around the facility seem to be dying.

Indeed, the group manages to spot various squads of Stormtroopers, kitted out exactly like the old Empire, clearing out areas of the facility with flamethrowers and other incendiary devices. The grasses scream as creatures that had recently been given life have it cut short in brutal and fiery fashion.

Ascending all the while, the would-be heroes find themselves virtually unopposed.

The one moment when a platoon of Stormtroopers spot them is a brief moment of excitement but the commanding officer of the troopers seemed to wave off his men at the last second. Rather than engage, the troopers back away and blast doors close the corridors between the group and the troopers, cutting off both groups from assaulting the other.

Together with the Ranger and the Doctor, the Jedi are hurried out through the main entrance, through the improbably jungle and across the sands. With an uncanny memory, Ranger Mead is able to pin-point the exact location that he and his team left their ship. Hurrying the team inside, Ranger Mead fires up the engines and the Ranger's ship rises from the sands... not a second too soon.

The sands below shift and shake...

The jungle, in all its improbability, begins to churn as if being pulped from below...

As Ranger Mead brings the ship higher out of fear, the assembled Jedi have a clear view of the sands for kilometers around pulsing and moving as something rises from the sands of Jakku. No... nothing so simple as something singular. The sands begin to rise and slide off the shapes that begin to emerge from below.

From the same depths they had narrowly escaped...

Ships.

The first of the ships that shakes off the sand as it ascends under its own power for the first time in literally hundreds of years is quite massive. Indeed, from the instruments on Ranger Mead's ship, the Jedi are able to confirm that the first ship to rise from the sands is over seven kilometers long. And worse? It is not alone.

Five more, similar, shapes arise from the sands. These are the same shape but shorter at almost two kilometers. If the first ship could potentially have been unknown to them, the other five are not. Even hundreds of years later, the size and shape of the Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer is known to sentients the Galaxy-over.

The Bellator-Class Dreadnought somewhat less well known but no less feared.

A transmission begins to air across all local frequencies and Ranger Mead tunes into it to see a severe man dressed in Imperial officer uniform, standing on the bridge of a Star Destroyer.

"My name is Admiral Scipio Galba, commander of Operation Bnigeai Naile and loyal servant of the last true Emperor. The Galaxy has enjoyed a stay of execution that ends today - Operation Cinder resumes."
