Chiss Ascendancy

Expansionary Defense Force

chissros.png

"The role of a warrior is to protect the Chiss people.
The warrior's own survival is of only secondary importance."
--Grand Admiral Thrawn

The Chiss Expansionary Defense Force is substantially smaller then the great super powers of the galaxy, but it is no less effective in combat. The Chiss's manpower is a fraction of all the other major power's in the galaxy, instead it relies on superb training along with cutting edge technology to achieve its goals.

Chiss Navy

With Chiss society having been manipulated by the Sith to become more aggressive as well as the rise of the Imperator as leader, the legacy and memory of Mitth'raw'nuruodo, or Thrawn as he was known to the rest of the galaxy, has greatly changed. He is now seen as a hero of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force, and his battles are used as an example of superb strategy used in naval engagements.

With the new military reforms, capital ships have become of more importance with new and improved Chiss star destroyers, and Mega Maser weaponry have begun rolling out of the ship yards. However, Chiss doctrine is still similar to how it has been for hundreds of years: strike hard and as fast as possible. As such, smaller capital ships such as cruisers make up the bulk of the Chiss Navy along with the exceptional clawcraft fighters.

In similar lines to the army, the Chiss Navy will very rarely do battle when evenly matched or outnumbered unless they have a significant advantage in technology or personnel. It is not seen as cowardice to turn from a fight, but rather putting greater thought into the wider consequences of a engagement where withdrawing but hitting an enemy at a better time or location are more prudent in the long run.

Chiss Navy Ranks

Tactical Commander
The Tactical Commander leads the Ascendancy's military to the fullest degree, holding a seat on the Council of Eminence and serving as the Grand Imperator's second in command. The Tactical Commander holds the entirety of all Chiss fleets under his jurisdiction.

High Admiral
A High Admiral is the highest a Naval Chiss officer can rise to. They serve directly under the Tactical Commander with multiple Force Commanders under their command. A High Admiral coordinates these forces along with a personal fleet under their authority.

Force Commander
The Force Commander is in charge of several Phalanxes, or fleets. Whenever more than one Phalanx is present on the battlefield, a Force Commander coordinates the logistics between the multiple fleets.

Phalanx Commander
Phalanx Commanders are naval commanders in charge of a Phalanx, making up a solid fleet. These officers retain authority over several Wing Commanders with each of their groups of ships at their command.

Wing Commander
Wing Commanders are in charge of a group of capitol ships and their Captains, each flanked by two support frigates. This is one of several groups that forms a fleet under a Phalanx Commander.

Captain
Captains hold senior roles of capitol ships, leading a cruiser with two support frigates. They generally have three Lieutenants under their command, assisting in dividing and managing forces on missions.

Lieutenant
Lieutenants manage fleet logistics under the command of a Captain. They hold second-in-command positions of individual cruisers or assist in commanding forces from a capitol ship's supporting frigates. Lieutenants in the field lead the mass of starfighters in space battles. These are the group coordinators of divided forces in spacial combat, relaying orders from the Tactical Commander to the troops in battle.

Sargeant
Sergeants are the highest ranking marines before becoming an officer. As soldiers, they lead several groups of troops in combat, managing a sect of the overall troops under the command of Lieutenants. Sergeants lead several groups of Clawcraft Starfighters under their command, or managing the operations and systems of duties aboard cruisers.

Vanguard
Vanguards are the veteran soldiers of the Chiss Ascendancy. They've earned their initiation as Ensigns and proven themselves in combat and assignments, familiar with their duty as a Chiss. These are the team leaders of Clawcraft Starfighter squadrons, and leading their own troops in the heat of battle. Vessel personnel are the experienced engineers and weapons technicians.

Ensign
Ensigns are the newest of recruits in the Ascendancy's Expansionary Defense Force. They make up the mass of trained pilots and marines in combat situations, beginning their career in the Chiss military. These are the bulk of the primary naval personnel, learning to one day lead their own troops, either in combat or the vital technicians that uphold their fleet.

Chiss Army

Chiss soldiers never charge into battle and get caught in slugging matches with foes, but rather bypass centers of resistance moving into the rear to attack lines of communications and logistics whilst using close air support and light armor equipped with Chiss Mega Masers to deal mortal blows against an enemy's capabilities to do battle.

Chiss soldiers are equipped with the very best and latest technology. They are equipped with state of the art armor systems and use charric fire arms. Their kit is designed to be light weight and allow them to be as mobile as possible.

Chiss artillery and armor are generally used in holding forces to allow the infantry to hit their targets as quickly as possible without running into overwhelming numbers along the way.

Chiss soldiers always have whatever is needed to ensure they can complete their jobs effectively using vast amounts of data management and training so they go into combat with an effective plan of action. They do not have the numbers to be a galactic superpower, but they can give anyone a bloody nose, thus avoiding drawn out wars and casualties.

Chiss Army Ranks

Tactical Commander
The Tactical Commander leads the Ascendancy's military to the fullest degree, holding a seat on the Council of Eminence and serving as the Grand Imperator's second in command.

Grand Marshall
The Grand Marshall is the highest member of the Chiss land forces. They are in ultimate charge of all ground forces and close air support. It is the equivalent rank to Grand Admiral for the Navy.

Marshall Prime
The high-ranking generals and masterminds of the Chiss ground forces. These men generally have long and successful military careers with a plethora of medals to show for it. They lead most planetary invasions and generally have three to five marshalls beneath them.

Marshall
Highly respected and never disobeyed, the Marshalls are essentially low-ranking generals. One earns this poistion through numerous showings of valor, loyalty and, most importantly, leadership. In charge of thousands of soldiers and some smaller-scale planetary invasions, these men need to be on top of their game to ensure success in the field.

Centurion Prime
Centurion Prime's are generally the best fighters in the Chiss military. Years of combat arms experience and training combined with natural skill means these warriors are among the most skilled in the galaxy in addition to being some of the most efficient leaders. They are placed in charge of no less than five Centurions and are the most highly ranked soldiers one can expect to see on the front lines.

Centurion
Centurion's are veteran Chiss soldiers with a wealth of tactical knowledge. Having served anywhere from ten to twenty years in active duty, there is little these men have not seen, fought and killed. They're in charge of directing five to ten Primes on the battlefield. A successful soldier usually ends his career as a Centurion. Any promotion given past this point is based solely on merit, without any thought given to time spent in the military for the most part.

Legionnaire Prime
A Legionnaire Prime has generally served from three to five years in active duty and lead squads of ten to twenty men into the fight.

Legionnaire
After finishing up combat training and their first mission or two, recruits are promoted to the rank of Legionnaire and finally are considered full members of the military. Equipped with high-tech gear and having just finished incredibly difficult training, a Legionnaire is far more capable than your standard soldier of other nations.

Recruit
Those that are new to the Ascendancy's military are given this rank. They have yet to finish combat training and are very rarely sent on missions without supervision of at least a Legionnaire Prime.

Colonial Phalanxes

ChissTEA.png

Since Chiss who join the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force pledge no allegiance to their families, the ruling families created their own planetary militias, known as Colonial Phalanxes. These Phalanxes are led by the Phalanx Commander. Since the rise of the Imperator, the Colonial Phalanxes were linked to the Chiss military for the purpose of streamlining the coordination between military organizations. This also allowed the military to focus less on defense of planets in Ascendancy space and more on territories held by the Chiss around their core region.
