Crix didn't know what he'd been expecting for the com-tower his mom's com had pinged off of, but he certaintly wasn't expecting the damned thing to be over five stories tall and wide as a house but it was. The building was shaped like a giant knitting needle or something - it was weird trying to think about what it looked like. Maybe a giant, white, tooth? Either way, the fact that it was painted bright white meant that it really stood out against the Coruscant skyline.

More importantly to their 'infiltration', however, was the fact that there was a small car park out the front of the building and there seemed to be a good dozen employees who were in the building. He wasn't sure what the hell such a place needed that many people for, honestly, but some of them might turn out to be issues. Crix checked the data from the com unit one last time as the speeder pulled up.

"Alright apparently this is the place."
he told Talak with a frown, "... it's not just me who thinks this place is a bit... beefy for a transmitter, right?"

The transmitters he had messed with in the past had been nothing but really tall metal rods with an access terminal at the bottom. It might have been because those were planetary transmitters and this one was extra-planetary transmissions but he had his doubts. A thought occurred to him that made him pause. Genuinely pause for the first time in what equated to a mad dash to do something to help his mom.

What if this wasn't a normal transmitter?

His mom was a higher ranking Ranger and she had spent some time undercover as well. It made a certain kind of sense that her com-link wouldn't connect to a basic transmitter but one that was more... secure. If they weren't careful, they might actually be breaking into somewhere rather important. As much as he was still awkward as feck around the guy, he knew Talak ought to know his thoughts on it.

"Talak I think we're about to break into a building run by a Secret Intelligence agency."

No pressure.

They'd taken off in the speeder and made it to the relay station in short order. It was large, but Talak had expected as much. If it was an off-world relay station - and particularly - a central relay station was going to be more than a simple tower.

Still, this was large. A bit larger than he was expecting. It looked like a multi-story building with many employees, not the dozen or so he was expecting.

When Crix spoke up, Talak thought it was a joke at first. Secret Intelligence agency? He glanced over at Crix but the teenager's face didn't betray any sign that it was a joke. His eyes flicked back to the building. Talak supposed it made some level of sense, but... well, that wasn't great news.

Great... he muttered as he kept looking the building over.

The realization that he was about to take Trys's son to break into a government building hit him. He didn't care about risking his own safety, but risking Crix was a bit different. But really, even if they were caught, surely Crix's would be fine.

They weren't going to get caught.

And they weren't going to tell Trys.

You got the gear you need? he asked. If they were going to break in he didn't want to get inside and find out they were missing something.

He exited the speeder and began a brisk walk around the building's exterior. They could enter via a side or back door or simply go through the front with a trick of the old Force. Both were viable, but he also wanted and exit strategy in case things went poorly inside.

Side entrance is a better bet. Do you have anything for bringing down camera systems? he asked. A single guard at an employee entrance would be easier to trick than the main corridors, he figured. @Nefieslab

Yeah Crix had managed to slice his way through some local security measures of com-net providers before. Hell, he'd managed to slice into his school's secure network before as well but this? Oh hells bells this wasn't just out of his league but out of his sight even. But he wasn't about to admit that to Talak, himself or his mom when she (inevitably) found out about this misadventure. Oh sure he'd try and keep it secret to his grave but, well, his mom had her ways.

Stepping out of the speeder he reached up to rub at one of his horns as he eyed the place with a small huff of exhaled air. Did he have the gear he needed to break into a spy agency's com relay station? Yeah, they sold that shite at the local store! Aloud he said something slightly more diplomatic.

"... maybe?"
he admitted, honestly, "This is more than I was expecting, gotta tell ya. It'll be easier if any of the people in there are logged into the network already though."

Tricking a network into thinking he had access on this level? Probably take about a week and the help of his friends for sure. But accessing a password locked workstation already with connections to that network? Much more doable in a time-frame that didn't leave his mom in the lurch. Just the thought about taking too long and causing his mom more difficulties twisted his gut.

Eyeing the entrance that he was talking about, Crix frowned ever so slightly for a moment before nodding very slowly before pulling out his datapad. It had been modified mainly to make it better at interfacing with starships and speeders but... some stuff was more universal. He tapped away at it for a few moments, feeling something click in his mind as he actually managed something he didn't think he could possibly do before.

Like his fingers moved on their own... freaky.

"Cameras should be experiencing technical difficulties now for a couple of minutes - anything more and they're do more than just reboot the system."

Talak could sense Crix's discomfort and forgot that this was probably far from common fare for the teen. Talak's own nerves were still feeling frayed despite this being the kind of thing he did on a regular basis. Any "serenity in the Force" that he was supposed to be experiencing was far away.

He nodded as Crix mentioned an open terminal. Yes, that certainly would make things easier.

Good work. Few minutes should be plenty, he said with another nod.

Let's go, he said with urgency and began to move with equal speed. Sure, a few minutes should be fine, but no point in pushing their luck.

The biggest problem they were going to face was that the guard... wasn't human. Or alien or organic at all. It was a droid, which meant there couldn't be any waving of the hand.

Talak stopped short and frowned, glancing up to the upper stories of the building where he spotted an open window.

I can get into the upper window and then... lift you up, he said. He didn't anticipate that Crix would be too excited about the prospect, but unless he could think of another way inside they'd be out of luck.

After only a moment more, Talak leapt up, letting the Force carry him through the air to land like a cat on the window ledge and slipped inside. Fortunately, no one was inside at the moment, but he didn't think that would last for long.

He turned around and looked for Crix and, if he could, would lift him with the Force. @Nefieslab

Alright, cool, yeah he could run along with Talak no problem. No issues with running into danger and a chance at being imprisoned for the rest of his natural life - he could do that. He was gonna do it for his mom and he was gonna make sure that Talak made it out as well - he figured his mom might want her boytoy back, much as the thought of it grossed him out. Trying to stay low, Crix followed closely behind Talak, trying his best not to stay too close and end up running into the back of him.

It was his first infiltration - mistakes were bound to happen though so when Talak stopped short, Crix wasn't expecting it and kind of jostled the older man, stopping mainly because of the hand he placed on Talak's shoulder. His cheeks burned from the embarrassment of it and he looked away quickly.

"Sorry..."

Feck, he was making an arse of himself here.

Wait what?

"... lift me up?"
He shook his head a little bit, "Oh no that sounds like a terrible idea."

He couldn't think of a better one right now but he would think of one he was sure! Crix quickly looked around and took in the situation as best as he could. And despite his best efforts... he couldn't actually think of a better way. He saw Talak make the jump and knew, instinctively, he was not going to be able to make the same jump. Instead he just sighed and slumped and gestured for Talak to do it.

As he floated through the air toward the window he would hiss at Talak in an urgent whisper.

"We tell no one about this."

Talak reached out a hand and opened his mind to the Force. He reached out to grab the young man and could sense the unrest in his mind just passively. He'd bumped into the Jedi below and it was clear he wasn't used to this kind of... operation. Talak had to remind himself that he wasn't actually a trained Padawan or Acolyte. This was probably a first for him even if he did routinely get up to mischief.

Voices outside the door made Talak's heart jump and there was a moment's jolt where Crix would drop about three inches with speed, but no further. Talak did not drop him, but it would no doubt be unnerving for both of them. Talak really didn't want to just drop a teenager from a dozen feet above the ground.

Probably for the best, he agreed.

It was only moments later before Crix would be able to grab the window ledge and hoist himself inside. It was only now that Talak looked more closely around the room. It was an office and was untidy. It smelled vaguely of processed cheese and coffee. Weird combination, but sure.

The work station was shut down and Talak glanced back to Crix. He doubted this terminal would get them access to what they needed, but maybe it was worth a shot. @Nefieslab

Oh for the love of... the indignity of being carried using the Force was only slightly worse than the revelation that he rather enjoyed feeling weightless. It was a very strange feeling for someone who didn't do a lot of flying or similar activities - to suddenly find himself just floating upwards was both strange and kind of awesome at the same time. He was beginning to think he had misjudged it and it was actually an amazing experience which was, of course, the exact moment he felt Talak's control on him slip and he fell.

Like, a few inches at most before Talak reasserted control but still!

It was officially back to being the worst idea he'd ever heard, let alone been part of.

"And we are never hinging a plan on levitating again."
he declared with a shudder, "Next time I hope I can just do that weird jump thing you did."

He only did that because of the Force, right? Talak wasn't actually a near-human from a species that had really powerful jumping due to evolution or something was he? Not secretly a cyborg - he'd have had more tools on hand in his ship if he was a metal man. Pulling himself into the room wasn't too hard but finding himself in the office itself was... different.

"... what a wonderful smell you've discovered."
he muttered as he checked over the terminal for a minute before shaking his head, "No go from this one I'm afraid."

They were going to have to go deeper into the belly of the beast... yay?

Well, it worked. No plan is foolproof, he said. Unpopular opinion, but true. The fact was that this wasn't even the worst plan he'd been a part of. A life of dangerous covert operations didn't always include things being easy.

Maybe sooner than you think, he said. Jumping with the Force was actually a skill that was taught fairly early in the process of becoming a Jedi. The idea of Crix becoming a Jedi hit him more... heavily, and it was an interesting thought.

Talak let out a quiet sigh as Crix affirmed that this terminal wouldn't work. It didn't shock him, but it was still a disappointment.

He pulled his hood up over his head just to stifle any cameras that might come back online. Sure, they were off now, but who knew how long that would last. In truth, it was more force of habit than anything. He wasn't used to working with slicer support.

He popped the earpiece from his comlink in and dialed up Crix's number. They would need to be in contact while they were here if they got split up.

Wait here and I'll clear the way, he said. He didn't want Crix getting caught if this went... poorly.

He snuck outside the office and through the halls. They weren't overly crowded and Talak was silently very happy about that. He could hear clicking away at a workstation not far away and moved quickly and quietly behind the woman sitting there.

Tell me where to get central access, he said, reaching into her mind with the Force and perhaps a touch more aggression than he intended. Side effect of his own unsettled spirit.

She muttered a response and it was all Talak needed. He glanced down the hall again to make sure Crix's door was clear.

C, out the door, take a left, and meet me at the stairwell door up, he instructed, confident that Crix could handle himself. @Nefieslab

Yeah... yeah it worked. Crix was of the same kind of mind as Talak about that actually - if it was crazy and it worked? Then it wasn't crazy. If it was crazy for him to recalibrate the internals of a speeder bike so that it could reach three times it's max speed for a half a tank of fuel using spot welding and gum - did it matter if it then worked? Maybe a bad example since the speeder bike DID explode later. Still, he wasn't going to be complaining about it like some bratty kid. He was a bratty teenager and that meant he only whined about things worth whining about!

Sooner than he thought huh?

"Cool..."

What?

He wasn't going to let the fact that he didn't like knowing Talak touched his mom get in the way of him acknowledging that being able to jump from the ground floor to the second floor of a building in one leap was cool. See? Bratty teenagers knew what was worth whining over in the end.

Ah begger, he didn't have a hood... just a really big collar actually. Deciding to make the best of it, he pulled the collar up and tightened it around his face. It had the effect of leaving the top of his head down to his eyes entirely free but covered his mouth and nose perfectly. So they'd know what species he was if they caught him on camera... big deal.

Frowning slightly, Crix drew his blaster pistol but made sure it was still set to stun. While it did now have the lethal setting enabled, he wasn't about to spend time in prison for killing secret agents. He nodded to Talak, understanding why he was going first at least. He wasn't bad a shot as he had been when he was younger, he'd improved a lot, but if you had a team Jedi it made sense to send him in first.

So he waited.

He fidgeted.

He scratched an imaginary itch on one of his horns.

He blew out a huff of air that started him humming one of Wiz's songs.

He totally didn't jump when the call came through but he followed up on the instructions quickly, opening the door slowly and quietly. Checking that the hall was clear, he followed Talak's instructions and soon arrived at the stairwell door. Upon reaching it he spoke to Talak.

"Alright Tee, up or down?"

Having the more vital areas higher would make them harder to reach but having them lower would limit escape routes if people did get in. Like they had.

Up, Talak said, glad to come around the corner and see Crix there a moment later. The last thing they needed was any time to be caught out in the open in the hallways.

He hit the door control and it sprang open, beginning to head up. He knew that they also had the issue that if they went upstair he could jump out a window... Crix would have a more difficult time with that.

They made it to the top floor in short order, and Talak was glad to see that Crix wasn't having any trouble keeping up. Despite their rocky start, maybe the two of them would end up getting along after all. But this probably wasn't the time to be thinking about that. He snapped his mind back to the here and now.

He reached out to open the door but before he could he heard someone on the other side. He slunk back toward the far side of the corridor and hoped Crix would do so as well. They'd need to come up with a distraction or else hope the guards - or workers - passed by on the other side on their own. @Nefieslab

Well Up gave them more possibilities for escaping after they had managed to do what they needed to do he supposed. He was honestly rather intrigued to see if Talak would be able to actually just jump down. Standing in the lift with Talak as it went up, he stayed silent for a moment before deciding it'd be a good thing to ask.

"So if we need to can you, like, lower us down to the ground floor using the Force? Is there a weight limit or what?"

He was curious, nervous and interested and that meant he was having trouble staying quiet. The dread in his gut wasn't going away but at least the sudden surges of anger had died down to more manageable levels. Crix let the Jedi go first - for the same reason as before - and waiting a couple seconds before following.

Leaning up against a wall, he leaned around the side of it for a second before standing flat against it again.

"Alright I can see two open terminals but both of them are pretty open."

The computers and other equipment were all arrayed in the center of the room - likely to stop people from doing things they shouldn't because everyone could watch them. Sighing ever so slightly, he rubbed at his horns in thought for a moment before an idea hit him.

"Fire."
he reasoned, "If we can simulate a fire they should all evacuate immediately - not even stopping to turn off their terminals."

Talak glanced back at Crix as he asked about what the Force could do. The answer was "a whole lot" and more depending on how much training and practice you had. Could he have gotten them both out of the building? Maybe. He knew he could get himself out, but someone else... well, probably, but that was difficult. He could practically feel his cracked ribs from the rescue of the Sector Ranger Chief.

I could... but I'd rather not, he said. He really would have preferred to be able to get out by normal means, but he wasn't sure he could. Especially if they went the "fire" route. Everyone would be heading out of the building and escaping without being seen would be... difficult.

We'll have... very little time. Ready? he asked. He waited for confirmation before reaching out with the Force and pulling the fire alarm. He had no doubt that things were going to degenerate very quickly, but people certainly got up to leave quickly. Particularly after Talak suggested in their minds that they felt a sense of... urgency. They headed for the stairs, and Talak motioned to the empty console.

Go, I'll find us an exit, he said, quickly beginning to scour the room, checking windows and watching where people gathered. So going out the window seemed more likely by the minute. He just hoped Crix could hurry. @Nefieslab

Huh.

Crix was beginning to suspect that only he was a talkative nervous guy when it came to people in the lift right now. Talak was either not nervous/anxious at all or he was one of those stoic types. And he refused to believe that the man wasn't either of those two emotions right now, even if he was likely feeling them more about Trys than the station itself. This kind of mission was probably a walk in the park for a Jedi.

Readying himself as best as he could, Crix narrowed his eyes and focused on the terminal he was going to access. As soon as the alarms sound, he moved forward, making sure only to move when the crowd of workers had already passed him by. Kneeling down, he accessed the terminal and began the search.

Thankfully he had long since memorized his mom's number.

Finding it and it's associated files under "Associates", he trawled through the first few files even as he attached a thumb drive to the terminal. He usually used it for navi-computer mods he tinkered with but he deleted them all to better fit the files on. Eyeing the alert that appeared on one of the other terminals, he cursed loudly.

"Kark - Talak, they know I'm downloading files."
he told the Jedi, "But I'm not leaving our search up to what I can read and take in this quickly so we're bringing them anyway."

On the floors below some of the security personnel would be making their way back up toward the room they were using. He muttered as he safely disconnected the device and hurried over to Talak.

"Last ping they got was Sullust but it was blocked."
he scowled, both in frustration and in worry, "There's a note on the file saying that'd take some strong tech and there's not many groups that would have it."

He didn't need to say who would have tech like that.

They both knew who would have technology like that and suddenly all that coiling dread in the pit of his stomach felt so much more warranted.

This wasn't good. They knew he was searching data which meant that someone would be along soon to investigate. That was a bad sign. There was a smidgeon of good news: they had a ping on the comlink that sent the message. It had been on Sullust, it seemed.

Sullust, Talak thought to himself. There was a feeling of darkness and foreboding as soon as he thought of it. He already knew what he would find there.

Get out. Get allies. Launch an attack, he thought to himself, but the first step in that process was get out. They both needed to get out of his building and ASAP.

Let's wrap it up then, he said. Yes, Crix's evaluation of Talak was correct, he was stoic. He lived more inside his own head than he did interacting with others. That's why Trys was so unusual. She probably knew more about him than almost anyone else in the galaxy. It was a strange feeling but also wonderful.

He could sense the unease in Crix. He knew that unease in himself all too well.

You know her. She's coming back, he said. There was no keeping Trys Aran down. Simple as that.

Talak made for the window and popped it open, picking the side opposite where the people were gathering. He reached into his belt and pulled out the small grappling spike launcher that he sometimes forgot he carried. This was much better than trying to levitate Crix down.

For his own part... well, he just dropped down, catching himself with the Force. That would allow him to run interference on anyone spotting Crix taking the grappling line down.

Alright he had his equipment detached from the terminal and he had made sure to do his best to delete the logs of what he had been doing but he wasn't sure how effective it would be. One good thing was that even if they scanned for his fingerprints they wouldn't be able to pull up a match for him cus he'd never been tagged by the police or the Rangers so they weren't on file.

Unless his mom had registered them out of some strange parental concern - in that case he was screwed but he'd gladly let her be disappointed in him for breaking and entering into an intelligence agency so long as that meant she got to be safe, sound and sane when they found her. His right hand was shaking a little bit but he knew it had very, VERY, little to do with their current situation so much as it did the 'confirmation' of who his mom had gone to deal with.

He plastered a shaky grin firmly in place.

"That's what I'm worried about - I reckon I'm grounded for life and you're probably sleeping on the sofa for a month at least."

Jokes weren't exactly what was called for right now but he was not going to be able to focus on the actual situation. He couldn't deal with the level of dread and guilt inside of him right now, not when they still needed to make their daring escape. Taking the grapple, he attached it to his belt securely and took a deep breath.

Very different from his only other experience of grappling - at the birthday party of some kid he couldn't even remember the name of from about five years ago. But he remembered enough of the basics to only get himself partially stuck when he was halfway down the building. He was able to untangle himself without needing to get Talak involved on the bright side and he landed with a semi-awkward thump on the ground.

"So do I just leave this here or...?"

He didn't know proper grappling hook procedures!

Talak actually had a little chuckle at Crix's reply. The two of them were... kind of coming to an understanding. He wondered if someday Talak would end up training him to be a Jedi. That was a weird thought.

Either way, they were out of the building and needed to get moving. His eyes went back up as Crix pointed to the grappling hook.

He flicked his wrist and reached out with the Force, pulling the hook free and letting it fall down to where he could reach it. No point in leaving behind evidence if he didn't have to.

Come on, let's go. Good work, he said. They actually made quite a team, these two. More so than expected.

He opened up his comlink, noting the irony that it would be routed through the same relay station he had just broken into.

We've got a location. Sullust. We're going there to spring her. Any Rangers you could bring along... would be great, he said to Corran and Zad (@Die Shize @TerranSteel). He had a feeling they were going to need all the help they could get.

Hearing Talak laugh was actually kind of interesting even if it did give him the impression that the older man didn't really, ever, laugh too much. Probably not too far off the mark to say he probably had some kind of tragic childhood - that was so not something he was even going to pretend to know anything about so he was just gonna keep making terrible jokes and hope for the best.

If he even spent anymore time with Talak. It was weird to think that this whole adventure might be the last time he actually spent time with Talak - his mom certainly hadn't been in a rush to introduce them after all.

"Huh."
he said as he watched the Force at work even as he followed Talak, "I'm really gonna need to learn this Force stuff - like having three hands or something."

... it said something about how much dread he was feeling about his mom that not even teenage hormones could conjure up any accompanying images to go with that thought. Instead he just followed Talak and shouted into the com at the end of his communication with them.

"If anyone doesn't show up, they're off the Aran Family Life Day Card list!"
he joked before even the forced mirth died, "They better come Talak."

Because he didn't know what he was going to do if they weren't able to save her because it was just him and Talak. The junkyard had already proven that he wasn't strong enough - this whole mess had started because he wasn't strong enough to protect her. He swallowed thickly.

"Talak?"
he spoke quietly but he was sure the other man could hear him, "I um... some of my friends are Force Sensitive and they're on Corellia. If I give you there location, can you make sure the Order knows where to pick them up? Just... just in case, you know?"

Just in case he wasn't strong enough again.

Talak was still unsettled. He couldn't avoid it while Trys was gone. Even if he tried not to say it around Crix, she was the lightest thing in his world.

They will, he said. He knew they would. Too many people looked up to Trys for them not to and he knew that there were Jedi who would come as well. He wondered what the cost would be, but he knew he didn't care. He'd trade places with Trys if he had to but she was coming out alive. She had to.

Yeah, I'll let them know, but you'll be going abck to get them yourself he said, turning to fix Crix with a hard gaze.

They'll be fine. Crix. It's going to be fine, he said. He wished he had a guarantee, but there were no guarantees. Still, he knew it would work out. It had to.
