As some of you may or may not know I'm doing a hard restart on the Rangers with our latest event The Day of Salt and Water

One thing I want to do is simplify the layout and remove the clutter from places like the information board and the mission section (dear god that place is a mess). So I'll be removing divisions as a factor.

What I intend to replace them with is what I like to call 'Specialities'. These will be special 'groups' of a sort that don't have separate missions but rather open up bits of resources to the people who earn their way into said group.

To put it in simple terms I'll use an example. One of the intended groups will be called 'The Gobo Express' they will basically be smugglers, but their missions will involve helping refugees and rebels against tyrants by delivering secret messages and humanitarian supplies.

This faction will be run by npcs for a time, but by interacting with them and helping them you'll eventually accumulate trust enough to earn a 'badge'. This 'badge' will give you access to the group and allow you to form it. Yes you can help me, but first you have to prove you want to be involved. How do you do that? You write. Plain and simple you write missions, social threads, training threads, anything that involves the group you want to associate with and eventually I'll hand you the keys to your own little kingdom.

I'll open the thread now to anyone who has any 'specialities' they want to see. For one thing I'm most likely keeping MOSES and PRICE in slightly different forms, but everything else is on the chopping block

I still think a couple of Waste Ranger ships (with necessary story buildup to acquiring said ships) with crews you can join would be a cool thing. :D

You should include a special Jedi group for Jedi members who help the rangers.

Above is also a great idea. :O

Also, do a part in the writeup about a prison the Rangers run, because we've all asked ourselves, where do the Waste Rangers keep their prisoners? And also, how are they sentenced? We need an NPC judge as well. :D

I could see that one coming a mile away. :19:

On the serious side, that's what I've thought as well, but it seems slightly umdemocratic what with the Rangers being idealists and all.

A group that does bad things to bad guys. By that I mean steal, cut supply lines, destroy stash houses and manufacturing facilities of the bad guys (Hutt or otherwise). Taking the fight to the gangs and the cartel through gorilla style war far. It's something I felt we lacked before, or were a little shy to do because of the sheer size of the Cartel assets on Zonju.

"Size matters not" XD

But no, I see the reasoning. Back in my mother country, bless its third-world soul, there are reasons that the police forces and military don't mess with the cartel operations and rely on larger powers like the U.S. to intervene. Hit and run sounds like a great thing. The concept of the Firefly-style drifters fighting the good fight is great, and as I suggested in the suggestions thread, I'd like to see something like a larger force begin to develop after some time, or at least have some sort of paramilitary ideal behind a section of the Rangers.

I second this. A group dedicated to beating the tar out of people who deserve it and hitting hem where it hurts (as in what Taz said with hitting supplies and facilities) would be a great idea.

Perhaps that is combineable with Stormthroe's idea?

Idea quoted below for the sake of clarification.

Shame to see the Scouts go. They really were my favorite division. But maybe they could live on in another way as a sort of "Ranger Intelligence" group? A group of Rangers dedicated to seeking out, infiltrating and/or sabotaging/gathering intel on groups that might be be aligned against the Rangers? I'm thinking they could target more than just factions on Zonju though. They could travel the galaxy incognito in search of slavers, pirate groups, gangs and any other degenerates that tend to make their living on buying and selling the suffering of others. Given time and appropriate resources, this group might also grow large enough to start offering protection to hyperlanes throughout Indie space and scouting safer routes for merchants to begin building trade with other systems to bring benefits and commerce to Zonju.

Just a thought though.

"Ranger Intelligence", spies, double agents loyal to the Rangers. That sounds good.

I had an idea for an NPC for my idea as well. But I'll wait to flesh it out for if/when Duke ok's it
