Pamarthe was a planet of oceans, islands, wooden bridges, strong alcohol and terrible-smelling food that was, actually, not that bad once you got past the smell. But more than that it was THE planet you went to if you wanted to find pilots as daredevil as they came and crew-members hard and experienced enough to patch up a torn hull with some tape and half an hour. It wasn't usual that people went out to Pamarthe itself to gain the services of these humans however as they could often be found wandering the stars for such work.

So why was he here?

Because he needed more than just a handful of the pilots to form a really dangerous fighter squadron - he needed enough of them to man several squadrons, some combat-shuttle runs and man corvettes. People tended to forget that the Pamarthens had worked for the Empire as pilots and crew for years before they, by and large, joined the Rebellion after their honor was pushed one time too many. But the only way to gain such co-operation from such a large group of the skilled spacers was to go to the planet itself and deal with the Guilds.

They were like Unions really that represented crew and pilots and held massive amounts of influence over their people. If they agreed to sign their people on with the Jedi Order under contract then it would be a sign they were good for the people. They would come, they would take their contracts and they would fly their ships across the Galaxy.

He wasn't alone however.

"Weiss, you're not afraid of heights are you?"

Max walked along the wooden and rope bridge which was the very definition of "rickety" without a care in the Galaxy even as the strong winds moved it angrily from side to side and the crashing waves below showed hints of aggressive marine life.

"Don't look now but I do believe the local fish wish to eat us as well."

Weiss walked behind Maxims over the rickety bridge construction his thoughts circling around both the impressions of the planet they were on and the nature of the assignment. Pamarthe seemed like a planet that could be a good vacation spot for most people, at least by the looks of it, and it seemed it provided a diverse enough alcoholic menu to those wishing to add more spice to the experience, from what he had heard of it at least. Though he wasn't really the fun-loving type, if that's even a thing... Aloof, disciplined and generally even described as 'boring' by a handful of his peers the white haired Jedi followed his father's military discipline and focus on efficiency drilled into him from an early age, conventional socializing and forms of past time activities were almost alien to the tall young man, often being pretty 'clumsy' and downright lost and confused when such situations occurred.

His thoughts about the planet's surface looks were merely a passing moment though with the brunt of his thinking going towards the assignment at hand. Firstly he was quite impressed with the meticulous planning and long term thinking Master Tionson exhibited regarding both the mission at hand and it's eventual part in the grand scheme of things. He couldn't resist to dwell upon it in awe and figured that he clearly could learn a great deal of things with this man. Which was something Weiss (conceitedly) thought he couldn't say about many masters that resided in the temple or sat on the council.

Still he was a bit puzzled by his implementation to this mission. By all intense and purposes this seemed to be a diplomatic endeavor and Weiss not only wasn't as experienced as some other Knights in that area nor was he even well spoken in general, being a reclusive quite 'brood' as many described the white haired half Hapan. Furthermore his talents lied elsewhere, in combat proficiency, battlefield awareness and military tactics and he couldn't help but feel that the Order had made a mistake assigning him to a diplomatic mission instead of better utilizing his talents on some battlefield or a strike team mission.

"Weiss, you're not afraid of heights are you?" Maxims asked in a manner of his usual dead pan dry humor as the odd pair of the extremely tall young man and the quite shorter middle aged male went through the rickety wooden bridge.

''I wouldn't say so Master even though it looks even worse from my perspective.'' the tall Jedi answered trying some sort of an clumsy attempt at a joke regarding his own height instead of giving his usual two to three word answers. Max walked across the structure in quite a confident carefree manner and though Weiss truly wasn't afraid of heights nor was he worried about the marine life before them his anatomy had made it a bit harder to cross the bridge that was being moved from side to side by strong winds. He instead had to hunch over a bit as he held onto the ropes and was advancing along the structure a tad bit slower and with more caution than Max.

Ah Pamarthe was rubbing off on the Knight already it seemed! He'd seen for himself and he'd heard around the Order that Weiss was something of a stoic and that had it's place but it didn't really have much of a place in negotiations with people like the Pamarthens. They were the salt of the earth by and large and they appreciated it when people could be honest with them and open. Someone as closed off as Weiss should, by all rights, annoy them to hell and back.

It was half the reason Max had insisted on bringing him along for this part of the mission.

Weiss needed to learn that being a Jedi wasn't the absence of emotion but rather the control of emotions so that they didn't control you. That didn't mean you couldn't feel or that being stoic was the ideal. But he didn't think a lecture on emotions and their handling was what Weiss needed because it didn't seem like something that would appeal to him. From his interactions with him so far, Max would say that Weiss was rather results orientated - so he would just have to show him how loosening up was the best way to get results in some cases because the alternative wouldn't cut it.

"Oh you got jokes from up there have you?"
he teased the Knight right back with a chuckle, "Cheeky little shite... alright it's quiz time."

Reaching the island they were destined for, he stopped Weiss in front of what looked like a giant meeting hall... or a pub. On Pamarthe they were kind of one and the same really. Settling against a rock, Max turned to the Knight.

"We're going in there today to get the guild to agree to get us crew and pilot contracts. The Guild is made up of nothing but Pamarthens so give me as many characteristics of the typical Pamarthen as you can - let's see what you know."

Weiss only took a short glance at the building structure the two arrived upon before having his attention turned towards Max after the older Jedi started checking up on his knowledge of the native people. Though he didn't really understand his place in this mission if anything Master Tionson seemed like someone whom Weiss could not only learn a great deal from but the man approached everything with a certain dose of tact. Furthermore he seemed to give of an air of trust and reassurance in his semi hands off approach, no doubt something that made him a favorite among many younger padawans if he had any of course. The question Max proposed was reasonable, he understood the man most likely saw his 'social skill flaws' and wanted to gauge his knowledge on the people they were about to meet. Understandable if you wanna make sure your companion doesn't say something dumb and kark everything up.

''Well from what I've read they seem to be known as generally good pilots, handling not just aircraft but other types of vehicles as if it were a part of their culture ?'' the young knight answered semi sure about his information about Pamarthens. ''They are also rumored to produce and enjoy a particular brand of wine, said to contain high doses of alcohol not many can withstand.'' he spoke quite technically, almost in textbook definitions and not only because the only info he had about the Pamarthens was what he could gather up on datapads before the mission but it had also seemed to be a part of his mannerism, no doubt creating an even more 'robotic' and distant aura between the young man and his past peers and just adding another rock on the mountain of Weiss's social barriers. ''Frankly putting this all together I imagine most of them being sort of daredevils by nature alone ?''

The first bit of information, and the second, felt like they had come from a textbook but the third? Well the third still kind of sounded like it came from a textbook but he was beginning to think that was just kind of how Weiss spoke. Smiling at the young Knight, he nodded in agreement.

"And from that we can deduce that they are reckless, thrill-seeking and prone to spur of the moment decisions."
he grinned and tilted his head to the side slightly, "But they're not. The Pamarthens worked for the Empire until they started to hear tell of their atrocities and they left, en masse, to join the Rebellion. If they were just looking to get their jollies, they wouldn't have cared."

He stood back up and stretched out a bit.

"No, they're loyal and they are honorable in their own ways. For example?"
he raised a finger as he started to walk to the Guild hall, "Cheating is like a slap to the face to them - it's like shooting their mother if that cheating is during a race or a drinking contest."

Pushing the doors to the Guild hall open resulted in a literal wave of noise hitting them. It was set up like a typical pub on the left hand side but more like a dining hall, with long wooden tables, to the right. At the end of the room on the right was a smaller table, raised slightly higher than the rest of the room.

Sat at the middle of that table were three people, all humans and all rather... weathered. Hell they were either older than Max himself or the sea salt in the air was hell on the skin. Well, two of them looked like that and the third really didn't. She was, instead, a rather young woman who was chatting excitedly away to the man in the middle.

He handed Weiss a credit chit.

"Order us a couple of drinks at the bar, Weiss. Ask for the children's drinks or we're going to lose our livers - I'm going to introduce myself to our hosts and remind them I did book this meeting ahead of time."

But they didn't seem to have remembered... or this was a power play. Either way worked he supposed.

Max's assessment of the information about the Pamarthens seemed quite obvious yet genius to Weiss his eyes slightly widening and his head nodding in agreement almost at it's own will as if he had his eyes open momentarily. Following the Jedi Master into the pub the taller Jedi flinched and squinted as the noise overcame him as the door opened, a face akin to something one would make when faced with an unbearable stench. Adjusting to the noise as he followed Max inside Weiss still kinda looked out of place and with a slightly awkward expression on his face, his height and firm posture further adding to the contrast between him and the rest of this place.

He took the credit chip from Max without a word, pretending as if he knew what Max's talking about and was on top of this task. ''Children's drink ? Should I just say it like that or was that a figure of speech ? Last thing I need now is to have the bartender point and laugh at me and bring more eyes to my person.'' The tall Jedi pondered as he made his way towards the bar. A significant number of younger women turned and eyed the white haired male from head to toe seductively some even brushing their hand across his shoulder. Sure his height was one thing that made him stick out but being a hybrid of a human and a Hapan granted Weiss with extremely prominent facial features many found beyond attractive so he was surprisingly used to this kind of reaction and didn't seem as awkward as he usually would be as he made his way towards the bar only addressing the few females that touched him with a stiff smile and a not before looking away.

''Hello'' The Jedi said as he leaned over the counter ''Can I get two drinks...'' he stopped midway, consciously stopping himself from wording it as 'children's drinks' ''Something as light as possible please.'' he finished, rephrasing it the best way that he knew how. The bartender, a larger, almost obese human laughed and met Weiss's order with a remark of his own as he fetched the drinks, his voice as deep as that of an Ithoran almost ''Hahaaha pretty boy can't handle booze huh ?''

Yeah he was pretty sure Weiss thought he was a bit weird for telling him to order a literal children's drink but that was fine. He was fairly certain that the younger man would know what he was talking about because it would be really awkward otherwise. The bartender likely knew what he meant purely by virtue of Weiss not being a local. Pamarthens didn't look any different to any other strand of regular human but they wouldn't be caught dead making that drink order.

Leaving the young knight to his own devices however, he approached the three people at the head table. Even as he approached people looked at him as though he didn't have any real business approaching them. They were as close to Elders as the people around here had and the respect people had for them was palpable. Finally reaching the table, he smiled a little bit.

"Master Maxims Tionson."

The two old men and the young woman looked at him for a few seconds in silence. He honestly thought that some of the locals were going to turn hostile, assuming they didn't want to talk to him. Instead the middle man spoke first.

"Rickard."

A grunt from the other old man.

"Joer."

The younger woman smiled, a first for the people of the head table.

"Lyanna."

Well they had greeted him and Rickard gestured for him to take a seat opposite them. He did so, using the Force to silently pull over a chair for himself and one for Weiss as well.

"My friend Weiss will be joining us for the talks as well - I hope you don't mind but he's grabbing myself and he a few drinks."

He wouldn't insult them by offering the weak drinks to them.

Weiss tried his best to ignore both the bartender's comments regarding his choice of drink as well as the two females on his either sides trying to make some flirtatious comments directed towards the young Jedi. He greeted the two women with a stiff smile and nod just as he did to the ones on his way to the bar and tried his best too focus his eyes in some other direction as he waited for his order tapping his finger nervously on the counter.
''Here we go, two baby drinks for our pretty boy newcomer!'' the bartender exclaimed as he landed two transparent glasses of some liquid in front of Weiss. He smiled politely and bowed his head a bit as a sign of respect while handing over the credits to the man.
The two girls sitting at the bar made sure to jokingly comment on Weiss's order to no surprise and the young man grabbed the drinks and walked away from the counter not addressing the girls not out of arrogance but actually out of awkwardness and not knowing how to respond. As he slowly started to make his way through the crowd he caught a some of the women's remarks on his departure ''ughh mr. personality..'' ''Douche.''

Finally making his way through the crowd he joined Master Max and the rest of the people around his table, assuming Max would introduce him to the party Weiss simply bowed his head slightly as a sign of respect and took a seat next to his Jedi elder, sliding him his drink.

Max didn't need to be a Jedi to know that Weiss was having a little bit of trouble over by the bar. Not the kind of trouble he could use violence or his stoic nature to avoid either - which was kind of the whole point. Weiss needed to learn other skills and social skills were some of the strongest that Jedi had to use on a regular basis. Max had managed to talk his way out of more situations than he had gotten out of with his lightsaber... by far, really.

He grinned.

"Welcome to the party Weiss - these fine upstanding people are Rickard, Joer and Lyanna!"
he introduced them, pointing out each of them to Weiss as he did so, "Now my Pamarthen traditions are a little rusting - do we still make a toast before we get down to brass tax?"

The two older men nodded solemnly while Lyanna just rolled her eyes. All three of them raised their glasses high and Max did the same with his own - he would nudge Weiss with his foot under the table if the young man didn't do the same.

"May we find ourselves in agreement!"

They toasted and Max took a hearty drink from the glass Weiss had brought him. It wasn't the strongest drink they had here but even a small mouthful was like taking the equivalent of two vodka shots at once. He set the glass back down on the table and sighed to avoid coughing from the amount of alcohol.

"So as I said before - we need crew for three capital ships and pilots for shuttles and fighters."
he grinned, "Sign contracts with the Jedi Order and you'll help us fight slavery, the Sith and other assorted scum. Get paid, get glory, get honour and get assistance of Jedi when you need us as your allies."

Rickard grunted at that while Joer merely stared at both Weiss and Max, before focusing on Weiss.

"And you, boy, will you be leading my people into war?"

Master Max didn't disappoint, he truly was what you'd call a pleasant speaker, a people's man in short everything that Weiss lacked, but even if these attributes weren't foreign to the young knight he somehow didn't doubt for a second that he'd still admire Max for what he is even in little of time as he had known him. The older man seemed experienced yet uncorrupted, full of wisdom and useful advice yet ready to listen and as intelligent as they come though he'd probably never flaunt it. He hadn't met many people like that in his life time and he quickly started growing quite fond of the older Jedi.

Weiss bowed his head slightly as he usually did when Max had introduced him to the people at the table ''Pleased to meet your acquaintances. Weiss Zano.'' He had focused almost all of his attention on 'trying to do the right thing' as from what he extrapolated from Max's words about the Pamarthians was that they revered tradition and customs. So when the notion of a toast was suggested Weiss stiffly raised his drink trying not to disappoint. He chugged the drink as did the others but instead of his face cringing or making some other gesture of unease Weiss merely raised his eyebrows as the last gulp went down, put down the empty glass and continued to follow the conversation with great interest as if he was absorbing everything being said and more so the way it was being said. His apparent immunity for alcohol that was actually just a genetic high tolerance would surely catch Max by surprise and bring about a certain confusion within the man.

One of the Pamarthens spoke to him and Weiss replied in his ever polite manner ''While I myself will participate in the effort on the front lines I doubt I'm ready to be leading anyone yet.'' his head tipping down slightly as a sign of humility drilled in him by his upbringing ''Such things would surely be on people far more experienced than me.''

Ah it seemed that Weiss had something of a tolerance for alcohol that Max didn't share too much. Max wasn't much of a drinker since he'd seen what the bottle could do to good men when he had been a cop. Of course there hadn't been many good men back on the force then but that wasn't the fault of the booze. The booze just made them even more insufferable than they already had been - Weiss would likely be served well by his tolerance here.

Joer raised an eyebrow at Weiss' answer but didn't immediately say anything. Already Max could see that having Weiss along as the "earnest, polite, young man" to his more experience touch was going to be a good combination. He gestured to Weiss as he answered, taking another drink as he did so.

"See?"
he urged the Pamarthens, "That's the difference between working with us and working with the Sith. With the Sith you are under the command of people who presume to control and order you about because of their abilities with the Force or their 'station' in life. But the Jedi? We know when to hand the reigns to others, people more qualified than us. You wouldn't try and teach us how to swing a lightsaber and we wouldn't dare try and teach you how to achieve an objective in flight."

Joer seemed mollified but Rickard spoke up.

"And what about our traditions? Will you allow our people to observe them even aboard your ships?"

Max didn't want to answer this one... so he reached out to Weiss with the Force to speak into his mind.

He's asking if they will be given good amounts of shore leave to blow off steam. Assure him that they will and we shall buy barrels of Port in a Storm for their major holidays. Better if it comes from you.

Weiss almost smiled to Max's statement about his words but managed to keep a straight face. The master was surely getting the best out of his words and adding it to benefit their efforts here. The other man, Rickard was his name, spoke up voicing his concerns and disapproval. Their traditions ? Weiss thought to himself. Sure he could kind of guess and assume when it came to some usual stuff but he had no idea what the man was referring to when talking about flying. Clearing the confusion almost as if he could safely predict Weiss's lack of knowledge on the subject Max's voice echoed in the young knight's head.

''Better if it comes from you.''
For whatever reason Max had felt that way wasn't too clear to Weiss but he surely wouldn't question his choice on the delicate matter especially with the situation at hand and him asking Weiss to speak up on it. Trying to act quickly with the information presented to him and yet remain calm Weiss conjured a thought and spoke up before any awkward silence could coat the table.

''We are well aware of your customs and traditions and the reverence to which your people hold them to, as such we would never expect from you to compromise such major values or put you in that position for the cause of our war effort. As Master Maxims already mentioned we are different from the Sith and if winning some war comes at a cost of one's personal values and beliefs.. than the war has been lost.'' there was a moment of silence and the lost young knight thinking his point was taken literally awkwardly and quite stiffly added ''...metaphorically speaking, of course.'' as if to clarify what was most likely quite clear to everyone. At best some present would find it simply odd if not even mistake it for a slight attempt at humor as the profound words of the young might contrasted the out of place add-on at the end. ''We would make sure that your people get the necessary leaves and time off and would supply Port in a Storm by barrels at our own cost.''

It was better that it comes from Weiss because it said more about the two of them that even the 'junior' in the Order was not only aware of their customs but happy to accommodate them. Said a lot about the Jedi Order as an institution that they were teaching their members the right way. And it was giving Weiss more chance to grow socially - almost like being a Jedi Master meant that Max might have some idea as to what he was doing!

Which was good since sometimes he didn't think he did.

Rickard didn't look entirely convinced but him being a sticking point had kind of been expected. The man looked like he had a stick up his backside and that was something for them to work around. Of course that was when the Force provided a curveball.

"You two race?"

He blinked a few times.

"... um... I have done in the past...?"
He raised an eyebrow at Weiss, "Do you, race?"

This was going to be trouble he could tell.

Weiss wasn't fully prepared for the question at hand, the fact that the tension between the people around the table slightly raised and the look on Max's face changed a bit made Weiss weary of his answer. Sure it made sense that this kind of thing was important in the culture of the Pamarthens from what Weiss had read on them. Opting to try and stay neutral so as to not offend or get himself in over his head with the answer he spoke up ''Um.. never participated in a race besides the standard flight school procedures I went through with the X-Wing.'' He wasn't sure what the man could be insinuating especially if the mentioned 'race' could have an effect on their arrangement and the young knight surely didn't want to jeopardize the entire mission by running into something that he knew he couldn't handle.

Max had a terrible feeling that the question about if they raced was going to be very important. He had a funny habit of being right about that kind of thing even when he really didn't want to be. Or was that more a case of 'especially' when he didn't want to be? It was academic and beside the point regardless.

It seemed that their answer was good enough because the young woman practically vibrated in place.

"You'll have our support if you can beat me in a race around the islands!"

Max actually... didn't see any problems with that actually. Racing hadn't been a big part of his life but he'd been in enough police chases and Jedi-case related chases that he kind of thought it counted as racing. After all, a chase was just a race that ended with something a bit more interesting than a waving flag.

He turned to Weiss.

"Think you can beat an old man and a girl?"
he teased the young man with a grin, "Cus I'm willing to bet six credits I beat you both."

The actual amount of money didn't matter so much as showing a competitive spirit.

Weiss somewhat relaxed and smiled at the proposition. The moment of tension from before seemingly vanishing by both the vibrant girl's joyful proposal and Max's relaxed response to it. Even if the stakes were high he would at least be somewhat at ease knowing that Master Max was also participating in this competition and the burden of failing such an important task wasn't fully on himself. ''10 credits say I win Master Max.'' the tall youth said with a slight playful smile somewhat uncharacteristic for him, it seemed as though Max's nature was somewhat rubbing off on him and the young Knight eased up on his usually tense demenour. He wasn't sure what kind of a pilot the girl was but judging by the culture of her people she was bound to be at least above average. Furthermore he was unsure as to which ships were they gonna use for this bout. ''So if this race was to happen, are we to use our own ships or will we instead all race in the same type of vessel ?''

Max mimed being shocked that the young knight would 'outbid' him in the race and the young woman across the table from them giggled excitedly while neither of the two older men actually looked like they minded at all either. If anything they actually looked like they were as amused by this whole experience as she was.

Curious people to retain a sense of fun into such an advanced age - most people turned into grumps.

Hells even Max himself had a tendency to become a bit of a grump at times and he was younger than both of the men across from him! In spirit of course, he was reasonably sure that a hard life by the seas of the planet had weathered and aged both of the men across from them at an advanced rate. But there were people who were into that kind of face so he wasn't about to start judging or throwing stones from his glass house.

"The Tigris would stomp you all flat, hardly fair."
he jokingly bragged, "My baby girl flies dirty but she flies to win."

His baby girl always had flown straight and true.

Lyanna waved a hand.

"No no, we race in speeders across the oceans!"
she explained with a grin, "If you slow down too much the speeder can't stay in the air and you sink. That means you lose and you need to high-tail it away to avoid being eaten by giant fish."

Max blinked twice.

"Sounds... fun?"
he glanced at Weiss, "Having second thoughts kiddo?"

Weiss's eyes slightly narrowed but his face wasn't showing an expression of concern as a slight smile curved on his lips at the same time. The prospect of such a race somewhat intrigued him and even with the terrible fish monster danger the idea of racing above the ocean strongly appealed to the youth. That and the fact that they'd be using speeders which he always had a an affinity for and would even spend some of his free time speeding around Coruscant and Hapes simply for enjoyment. Needles to say he had much more experience with them than with your standard piloting.

He shook his head, his slight curve of a smile never leaving his face as he answered Master Max ''No second thought whatsoever. If anything this sounds quite exciting.'' He turned to the three locals on the other side of the table ''When would we start ?''
