The news itself was already ahead of him, billions of souls had tuned into to watch the meeting of the Supreme Chancellor and the Sith Empress. They had all heard what was said, what was discussed and at the end they all saw the one thing the people of the New Republic wanted. Peace.

But although all had seen it and all knew what had happened, it was still Alexander’s duty to let the people know, truly know that they were no longer at war. The Starhawk which had accompanied him out to the meet with the Empress had not even warmed up its Hyperdrive when the Supreme Chancellor was ushered into a makeshift press room, the walls were lined with green screen. Showing to the galaxy the jubilant scenes across the Core, celebrations of peace.

Three, Two, One…

“Ladies and Gentleman of the Republic. I stand here before you with great news, one that you have all been waiting to hear. Since the day I took a stand in the Senate, I promised us all peace. I promised to no longer send our loved ones to battlefields, no longer would we see our credits crumble to nothingness within our hands. No more businesses and jobs to be wiped out by an economic stagnation brought on by this war.”

“Many a naysayer stood against me, claiming the Sith were nothing but mindless animals, that the price of peace would be the total and utter surrender of our Republic. But I ask any who watched my meeting with the Empress. Both on the streets and within the Senate. Did I bow and beg, did I offer up our worlds and people to this apparent ‘Tyrant’ of the Empire for peace. No, No I did not.”

“I did as I promised! I secured us a peace, so we no longer have to send our loved ones to war. I arranged a Trade Deal to bring value back to the Republic Credit, removed sanctions which destroyed jobs and business across the Republic. I did all this at the price of just one thing!”
He paused for a moment longer than anyone in the room would suspect. Had Alexander done a side deal with the Empress off camera, people all across the Republic would lean forward closer to their holo desperate to know what this sacrifice was.

“The Pride and Stubbornness of the Warmongers who sit within the Senate! The people who advocated for this war with the Empire because they were too blind to see beyond the fairy tales of valiant Jedi and despicable Sith. But I will not let the pride of these men and women become a wall between The Republic and Peace. Trust me, for we all know, they will fight and spit at this peace deal, claiming that it somehow breaches our beliefs, our history. But that is just a cover for the bitterness they have for no longer being the master of this Republic.” Alexander's voice quietened off as he came to a pause, looking down at the camera he took a deep breath and then bellowed out.

“You are the masters of this Republic not them. And as that master you entrusted onto me, the most sacred duty this galaxy has to offer. To carry out the will and desires of the people of this Great Republic. And your Will was Peace, so I give you Peace. Your Will was Prosperity, so I give you Prosperity. You wished for a brighter future, free of suffering. I give you that Future today!” The two dozen or so people in the room cheered and clapped. Alexander could almost hear the millions of people on Coruscant, Chandrila, Kuat, Fondor and a hundred other worlds do the same.

“I thank you all, for the belief and trust you have given to me. It is an honour and a privilege to serve as your Supreme Chancellor and I promise to continue to act upon your will. For the Future and Prosperity of our Great Republic!”
