DESCRIPTION
The Pistoeka Sabotage Droid, more commonly referred to as "Buzz Droids", were developed by Colicoid Creation Nest some time prior to the beginning of the Clone Wars. Originally designed to be small, nimble repair droids, the need for more battle droids late in the war saw them repurposed as saboteurs. While not particularly dangerous on their own, in large numbers they proved a significant threat to Republic pilots. By coordinating with one another they would use their built-in tools of vandalism to render enemy craft inoperable, possibly killing their pilots in the process. Their efforts were assisted by the multiple filters on their photoreceptors, among them being an X-Ray sensor to help locate the vital mechanisms of a ship. In addition an extendable probe capable of invading computer systems helped them to disable their targets from within. They also proved to be very effective against Republic astromech droids, often dismantling them along with the starfighters they manned. Finally, they were outfitted with a self-destruct mechanism to use if all other attempts to disable an enemy starfighter failed. Because of their nature they usually exhibited devious and violent personalities.During the late days of the Clone Wars Pistoekas would be carried into battle by droid tri-fighters and vulture droids, and deployed by specialized discord missiles. These missiles would deliver large swarms of Pistoekas into space, which would use their maneuvering jets to get close to enemy starfighters and then employ their drill heads to hook onto them. Their outer sphere casing was made of a heat-dissipating, shock-absorbing alloy that allowed them to pass through enemy shields unscathed. Because of the manner in which the droids were used in combat they rarely survived their first engagement. Despite this the model survived long after their production was ended, thanks to the large numbers in which they were produced.
In the years following the Clone Wars Pistoekas were put to great use in junk yards tearing apart old ships for scrap. They would also continue to be used as saboteurs by criminal elements throughout the galaxy, usually pirates. In one case during the reign of the Galactic Empire the Free Ryloth movement would employ Pistoeka droids in battle against the Star Destroyer Perilous. Others would reprogram their Pistoekas to return them to their original function as repair droids, though they remained best suited to the task of taking things apart rather than putting them back together.
LEGALITY
Legal but frowned upon. With over a hundred years past since the end of their production Pistoekas have become more and more rare. And while many people use them as innocuous repair droids or scrappers, they are generally considered dangerous weapons and primarily used for illicit purposes.INTENT
Primary intent is for a droid PC character. Although it may also serve as a standard sabotage droid for use as NPCs or enemy combatants.
