Podracing was once a sport known for being illegal in the Core Worlds, being mostly played in the Outer Rim. It was a bloodsport, people crashed and died in it. But that seems to be the case no more, as Theed - the capital city of Naboo - is hosting a big podrace. Although the ISC doesn't outlaw Podracing in it's borders, one would think that the refined and civilized monarchy world Naboo wouldn't allow it, especially in Theed.

After speaking to the head (heads?) of the Intergalactic Podracing Safety Committee a Trilog named Qli'Pas, he then said this. "In the year 157, Podracing has come a long way" said Qli the left head of the Trilog "Yeah, all Podracers have numerous safety features installed. Firstly all the racers have ejection seats in them." said the right head. "Then there is bubblewrap coating across the hulls of the racers to minimize impact." "Thirdly, the rules have been changed to where contact with the other podracers is forbidden. If one of the racers make contact with another, then they will have stop their engines and wait 30 seconds.""Yeah, with those rules in place, Podracing has never been safer. That's why Naboo let us host a race in their fine city"

When asked if a racer could crash into one of the buildings "No, it's not possible. Repuslor-fields have been set up all along the walls of the race track. It will just repel the racer back on the track." Qli said. "There is no chance whatsoever of someone getting hurt." Pas said with confidence.

So with that, Podracing has truly evolved. The race is due to begin, I will be in the stands covering the event live.
