Polvonite

The Polvonite is a lithoid (mineral-based) sentient species. As a species made of up of rock, Polvonites are neither organic lifeforms but nor are they mechanical life. Polvonites call their homeworld Qva, which is located in Wild Space.

Biology
————————

Polvonites as a rock-based species, this makes them very different than organic species. Polvonites do not need air to breathe. Their internal anatomy lacks organs which organics lack, being made up of rock. They don't have blood, they have no DNA. etc Their exterior tends to be jagged and asymmetrical. Polvonites also do not suffer from poison or disease as organics do.

What gives Polvonites life is a 'power gem' which is inside the center of a Polvonite. The power gem function as the heart of the species, gives the Polvonite energy. If the power gem is destroyed or shattered, the Polvonite dies. Polvonites do not need to sleep, but however they do need to rest and be at ease after continuous function as the power gem needs to recharge. Strenuous, grueling action for prolonged periods of time does strain the Polvonite's energy levels even more. In effect, Polvonites still have stamina on par with humans.

Polvonites appearances can take on many forms and shapes. Many Polvonites take on a rough humanoid shape (two legs, two arms, and a head), some take on more animalistic forms - with multiple sets of legs, up to two pairs of arms, and up to a few sets of eyes. Polvonites that lack legs can instead float up to 2 feet off the ground with a strong magnetic field generated from their power gem. Polvonites may lack visible noses or mouths as well.

In addition, Polvonites may be created with other growths on their bodies. Some may have crystalline shard formations or even their bodies being made of crystals, some others with volcanic-like veins running through, or other small rocky pieces that float with their bodies, or even reinforced with metals. Some Polvonites are made tough depending on the composition and may have have durability on par with armor. (Note: In this case, this natural protection can't be stacked with armor. Armor may be worn for appearance and/or for functions.)

Polvonites have a wide variety of sizes as well, they can range from 1 meter in height to a little over 2 meters. The strength of a Polvonite is dependent relative to their size and mass, a large, bulky Polvonite is as strong as a wookie. A human-sized Polvin would be a match of a humanoid of equivalent size.

Diet
————————

Polvonites do not eat or drink as organics do. Polvonites do not have need for nourishment. They are 'terravores'. Although Polvonites with mouths are able to consume minerals and even metals, doing so causes the Polvonite to grow a small amount as the 'food' is incorporated into the Polvonites' body. If a Polvonite is damaged, eating a sufficent amount of minerals could be used to heal the wound and fix the damage (not usable in pvp). With that being said, Polvinites are able to eat organic food. It would simply be grinded down, gaining no nutrients from it.

Breeding
————————

Polvonites do not reproduce as organics understand. Polvonites are made, not born. They also do not have a process of maturing as organic species do, having no 'baby' stages for example. When a Polvonite comes to life, they are fully mature, although with only basic instinctual knowledge.

The creation of a Polvonite is not a natural process, they are artificially made. Special tools and machines are used to create more power gems. These power gems are then placed in a mineral formation of a given place and are left to incubate for a standard year's worth of time. From then, when the incubation period is complete, the power gem becomes alive and will animate an amount of earth around it, and fashion it into it's own earthen body. To 'grow', the Polvonite can consume more minerals. In all, the creation of a power gem is resource intensive and depletes from the environment around it, as does their mineral consumption.

Polvonites have a long lifespan owing to their mineral nature. Their power gems can sustain them for thousands of years. The equivalent of dying of old age is their the energy from their gems fading. Other 'nautral' causes, such as eroison, can shorten their life span.

Communication
————————

Polvonites communicate through spoken and via written language. The native language is Polvonese. Other species that have heard spoken Polvonite regard it as a crude and gutteral language. Polvonites traveling in the galaxy or frequently interact with outsiders pick up trade languages such as Basic and Huttese. Polvonites without mouths can still communicate via ultrasonic vibrations that other Polvonites will be able to understand.

History
————————

The Polvonites are somewhat of an engima. It is not known precisely how the Polvonite species originated. Polvonites are taught that many milennia ago, the first Polvonites came to be via a crystalline meteorite that crashed down on Qva, what would become the Polvonite homeworld. This crystal meteor would be known as "The Meteorite'. Some time after the meteor crashed down, the first batch of Polvonites would come to life from the debris of the meteor and the earth around.

Over the hundreds of years the Polvonites were able to make more of them. As Polvonites were made and their civilization advanced and grew, it would be at the expense of their homeworld. By the time that the Polvonites made contact with the greater galaxy around 600 BBY, Qva went from a temperate world and became a broken, volcanic world through overmining. Having plundered their homeworld of all the resources it could, Polvonites have spread themselves through the other planets in their home solar system and set up new colonies. From these colonies, they will extract the planets resources for use of new Polvonites and to grow their civilization, but causing great harm to the environment. A fully developed colony would leave the world a husk with even the mantle exposed.

Culture
————————
The mineral-based species tends to keep to themselves for the most part in their corner of the galaxy. That isn't to say that they cut off contact with the greater galaxy. Also individual Polvonites often find their way out of their home system and walk among the organics, although they are a rare sight.

On an individual level, Polvonites like to keep things as simple as possible, prefer to take direct action and practical solutions to problems. They tend to use as few words as possible, tend to be upfront with others.

The Polvonite homeworld has a united government which is authoritarian and drives Polvonite expansion Below that, Polvonites in their own settlements tend to be close with each other in a tribal-like fashion.

Despite the isolationist leanings of the Polvonites, traders will venture out in the galaxy. Individual citizens are free to leave their home system and be able to return for the most part. Polvonites do trade goods for technology.

Technology
————————

Polvonite has developed their own technology over the many years. The aesthetics of Polvonite technology tend to be very utilitarian, crude, not caring for aesthetics that are visually pleasing to organics. A reflection of Polvonites being a practical people. Polvonite technology tends to be jagged, rocky, non-standardized, and asymmetrical. For example two copies of the same make/year/model of blaster rifle will look different than each other, although performance will be identical.

The lithoid species is also known for it's mining technology and their expertise in mineral extraction. Polvonites are also fond of anti-gravity technology, such as repuslorlifts. In addition Polvonites are also fond utilizing magnetic technology.

Their cities incorporate floating buildings or city squares held up by powerful magnetic field generators or repuslorlifts.

Strengths
————————

  • Long lifespan
  • Needless to nourishment, breathable air .etc,
  • Bodies can take on many shapes
  • Natural armor (optional)

Weaknesses
————————

  • Unagile
    • The general heaviness of a Polvanite hampers their agility and mobility. They will not be doing acrobatics.

Misc.
————————
  • The Polvonite homeworld Qva is a broken, shattered world due to overmining. Although it is still the heart of the Polvonite species civilization with it's cities and other infrastructure still intact.
  • Combat Balance Note: The power gem of a Polvonite can't be instantly broken/destroyed with Force Powers.

Prefix
————————
Fanon

-- Intent

To create a rock-solid (pun intended) rock-based species that accomplishes some of the points I set out
  • To codify a decent, versitile rock species. There are a few in star wars, but they are either downright weird or very unusual. So I went with a fanon species that starts from scratch.
  • Polvonites are not locked into certain style of appearance. They can be many shapes. They can look like rocky humans, golems, rock-animal creatures. They can also be made of crystal, also be made of metal too. That, and lacking some limbs, having more of others .etc
  • I wanted to them to function differently than the normal with organic species, as a rock-based species should.
