DESCRIPTION
The Procursator-class star destroyer is a heavy capital ship originally manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards for the Galactic Empire, specifically during the later part of the Galactic Civil War. Conceived as a "war emergency substitute" for the larger and more powerful Imperial-series star destroyers, the Procursator was designed to be faster and easier to build than its siblings, making use of components and sub-assemblies from various other classes, most notably the Bellator-class dreadnought.

The Procursator - like all star destroyers - is a large ship, 1,200 meters in length, though about 400 meters shorter than the Imperial which it was designed to supplant. It has a crew of 23,000 - 15,000 less than the Imperial I - and can carry 8,000 passengers, plus 24,000 standard tons of cargo and consumables sufficient for 2 standard years in space. Its armament is significantly less than its predecessor, including 3 triple mount heavy turbolaser turrets, 12 dual heavy laser turrets, 32 dual light laser turrets and 2 concussion missile launchers. It has a top speed of 60 MGLT, and is equipped with a class 2 hyperdrive. Onboard starfighter complement is 48, plus 8 shuttles.

Designed just prior to the Battle of Endor, the Procursator was meant to be an answer to the prodigious losses being suffered by the Imperial starfleet against the Rebel navy, who had become masters of using asymmetrical warfare to take down large, hard targets such as battle stations and capital ships. The standard star destroyer of the Empire, he Imperial class, was a monstrously powerful vessel, but took time to build, and thus could not be quickly replaced once lost. Thus, the Procursator was conceived as a stop-gap, a slightly less powerful class of warship which could roughly do the same job, and which could be built much more quickly. Though never intended to replace the Imperial - indeed, it was expected that the Procursator would be rapidly taken out of service once the Rebellion was finally crushed and normal fleet production could resume - it would prop up the starfleet's numbers in the face of attrition.

In practice, the Procursator was found to have strengths of its own. Though unrefined in its construction and not as well suited to independent operations as the Imperial, the smaller Procursator found its niche as a convoy escort and fleet picket, often being used as part of the defensive screen for large dreadnoughts and battlecruisers, as well as for the giant tenders and mobile repair docks used by the Empire to support fleet operations. Though never as plentiful as the Imperial class, a respectable number of Procursators had been built by the time the Kuat orbital shipyards where they were assembled were overrun by the Rebellion.

After the Galactic Civil War, most Procursators which survived to be passed on to the New Republic Navy were quickly retired from service, being mothballed or scrapped outright. In the present day, they are significantly less common than the already rare Imperial class ships, although they can still be found in service to certain wealthy sector and system militaries.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Procursator-class star destroyers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities. Even then, they are ridiculously expensive to operate; only a relatively large faction or decently well-off planetary government would be able to afford it without swiftly bankrupting themselves. An individual would stand no chance.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from Legends canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Procursator-class star destroyers are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They may be acquired as a faction asset with staff oversight.
