One of the biggest questions we receive is "what does it take to be promoted to the next rank in the Jedi Knights?". In order to understand the guidelines being put in place here, I must ask you a question:

"What makes a Jedi General different than a Knight?"

The simple answer is Leadership. A knight is everything a Jedi should aspire to be in combat ability, strength, etc. As this timeline all ranks are pretty much equal in power does it really make sense to 'power up' into the next rank? Nope. Certainly you can mature and fine tune your skills but what really makes a General stand out is their leadership ability both ICly and OOCly.

"I am not a leader and don't want to be an AFL."

Fantastic, you don't have to be an AFL and leadership takes many forms. We are looking for people who can lead missions, start threads, help people OOCly with their profiles, discussions, etc. Many of you do this already.

"Okay, but what if I WANT to be an AFL?"
Great, we have openings for that as well. Aspirants need not apply other than stepping up to meet the guidelines. If we see you doing well, we will contact you. Feel free to let me know if you are interested but keep in mind I am in NO RUSH to add more AFL and it won't speed up the process.

"Bauren, these 'guidelines' are really vague and don't tell me what to do."
I know, isn't that great?

Feel free to post questions below.

I just want a bit of clarification here. So basically, doing stuff to help other players OOCly and making your character lead ICly is how you get general? Did I get that right?

That's generally what I am saying. More to it, but that's the biggest piece.

To add onto this considering I remember discussing this same topic with Bauren, basically, while we don't want a set number of threads of X-type somebody has to have been in to get promoted like some groups had last timeline, we do want to see that somebody's Knight is generally being active and displaying leadership qualities and the like, and generally acting as a Jedi should. The Jedi Generals are this specific group's Jedi Masters - they're expected to be mature, to have developed leadership qualities of some sort, to be at least sorta kinda wise and generally in control of themselves, etc. etc. And that's just the IC side of things.

At the same time, we don't want a character who is supposedly a really good leader doing only a few short threads and then asking to be promoted saying "look how good I am at this stuff!" because we do want to see good level of general activity.

Similar stuff for Padawan to Knight, just with more soul-searching and stuff like that. Y'know, standard things.
