so i know this probably sound really stupid to some of the more experienced members here, but what's the deal with being able to create new planets and species? I mean, can you just create one just because? Or does it have to based directly out of legends/canon?

Nope, afraid not. even if you have an original species to create and what nots it generally has to be a pretty good reason behind it. There has to be a storyline based upon it or some other 'big enough' thing to warrant it other than for the sake of 'just because i want lizard guys with glowing eyes and wings' sort of thing (not that you would want that sort of thing)

okay, good to know. I just thought that maybe only planets or species that have been previously mentioned (in canon or otherwise) are allowed to be added, but it seems you've cleared that up pretty well. Thanks! (o^^)o

Creating Fannon species and planets is encouraged in cases such as Dmitri's Castle Moon or Penn's Amanee.
However, as Dara just stated, there has to be good reason behind it. It should be something that the entire roleplay community can use.

The amount of creatures, sentient species, and planets, both in cannon and the EU is incredibly vast. So vast in fact, that you will probably find something similar to what you have in mind, so always scour Wookieepedia before submitting or expanding a species or planet.

To add onto this, what would one do for canon droid models?

Keeping in mind that we are approximately 1000 years before the events of the movies technology won't be as advanced. I would refrain from bringing in druids from the era of Palatine's Empire. It really depends on what you want to do with the druids.

I don't plan on anything like clone wars era droids, I was just asking since I have a Droid Uprising faction in interest check phase with Eden and myself on the current roster for it before I send in the full thing, in which I am just waiting for three others to join the roster, though others have expressed they like the idea.

In reference to the droid faction; I was just wondering if it would be okay to create a relatively advanced mechanical race (a natural, non-organically made one) that evolved independently (because that would explain why, one thousand years later, the droids are still less advanced than this 'droid-like' race)? Then (eventually) we can kill of the majority of the population, to account for the fact that they aren't mentioned in canon.

I've kinda had this idea stuck in my head from looking at some awesome concept art, so I just wanted some opinions on it.

@Malon is the RP Administrator responsible for Species and Planets. He would probably be the best person to enlighten you, though as your idea is tech heavy I am also going to tag @Clayton to have his input.

Creating a standalone "race" of droids is rather unnecessary.

Long story short, droids still fall under technology, and thus different rules compared to species. In my opinion, what you should focus on are the history and planet surrounding this society of droids. Presumably, any member who joins your faction will be creating a unique PC that may or may not require various levels of approval through the tech boards (depending on how advanced they make their droid). Likewise, any NPC droids you plan to use for combat purposes will need their own individual tech write ups for approval same as any other faction looking to add to their arsenal.

You won't be able to skirt around having an army of droids by simply re-classifying them as a "species". They may have a society all their own, but here again those details would be better served fleshed out in the faction's write up as part of their history.

I hope that answered your question. I was kinda confused as to what you were actually asking, so... yeah.

Actually, the faction is mine, it's in interest check and is currently looking for three members more members to add to the roster, the home base for this faction is planned to be Iokath, the society of the droids are covered in both threads, mostly Iokath though.

Basically, I was suggesting that, if organic 'living beings' can evolve (assuming the theory of evolution is correct), why can't mechanical ones (it might come down to the materials that the planet is made of; Earth is mostly made of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen [and so are we humans]; this may be a formula for organic beings, but what about organic beings from a metal based planet; could this independently evolve mechanical, advanced yet somewhat droid-like beings)? I was thinking of making this something separate from Iokath, and these mechanical beings would eventually join the rebellion against organics (maybe because they were sick of being mistaken as droids?)... Again, it's just a little idea I'm playing with in my head; all inspired by some sick concept art XD

Wasn't that a joke in Futurama?

honestly i don't watch futurama so i wouldn't be able to tell you

Basically, Futurama had an episode around Evolution vs. Creationism using a planet entirely of robots to illustrate a point.

I think Robot Evolution is conceptually interesting, but you'd still need to go through tech, not species.
