DESCRIPTION​

The R6A Starlift is a light freighter manufactured by the Kurtiss-Heath Aircraft Corporation for use by the Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Establishment, better known as SHADE, the main planetary defense organization of the planet Tolvis VII. Essentially an unarmed transport, the Starlift was designed to supplement and eventually replace the organization's small fleet of 3-Z light freighters, which they captured from various alien slavers operating on their world.

In profile, the R6A resembles the "conventional" configuration of a space vehicle as imagined by Tolvite science fiction; a cylindrical shape topped by a flared cone, with engine exhaust venting beneath the flare. The craft has 4 stabilizers located on the "lower" fuselage, and a segmented dome at the bottom, which can be opened to deploy landing gear (the craft is a "tail-sitter", incorporating no repulsorlift technology), as well as load and unload passengers and cargo. The ship makes extensive use of titanium in its construction, and is among the first Tolvite-designed craft to do so, a significant achievement given that the first all-metal Tolvite aircraft flew only around 20 years ago.

The ship is flown by a crew of 3, including a pilot, co-pilot and flight engineer. Navigation duty is usually handled by the copilot, with specialized training required to enable them to operate the MerenData-supplied navicomputer; computers of any type are still rare on Tolvis VII.

Like the P2A Skyspark, SHADE's primary interceptor, the R6A Skylift is a blend of Tolvite structural engineering and Galactic propulsion technology. The ship has sublight and hyperdrive systems sourced from Kuat Drive Yards; no nation on Tolvis VII yet has the technology to fabricate these components, and so they must be imported. Part of the reason for the Starlift's construction, indeed, is to facilitate the trade in advanced technology as Tolvis VII struggles to modernize, besides exploration and diplomatic efforts.

The fleet of Starlift-class freighters is not yer extensive; even with their comparatively crude layout and systems, they are horrifically expensive for the Tolvites to produce. Nevertheless, their numbers are slowly growing, and they have begun to become recognizable in the Deep Core sectors, near their home-world.

Legal. Being unarmed freighters, R6A Starlift transports are unrestricted more or less everywhere.

To create a vessel for use by characters from the planet Tolvis III, as well as Tolvite NPCs.

RESTRICTIONS​

Essentially all examples of the R6A Starlift were built for and are operated by the Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Establishment's Transport Command. This ship is not available to beings not affiliated with SHADE without good reason.
