DESCRIPTION
The Raider-class corvette was originally produced by Kuat Drive Yards for the Galactic Empire's naval forces. The design is similar to the dagger shaped hull of the much larger Imperial class star destroyers, favouring an aggressive doctrine and intimidating silhouette. The ship's hull is largely colored gray, with black blade-like solar collectors similar to the TIE series arrayed on the sides. The Raider is armed an assortment of weapons including retractable laser cannons, single-barrel turbolaser and ion cannon turrets, and missile launchers, giving it great versatility and forward firepower.

A centralized command in the ship contributed to its success, and the Raider-class corvette was built to be durable. Acting in an anti-starfighter role found to be lacking in the Imperial fleet, the ship was designed to counter the Rebel Alliance's hit-and-run single-pilot fighter tactics and operated much like the Alliance's own CR90 corvette. A hyperdrive allowed the Raider-class to conduct such activities, and it was quick and agile for its size, able to chase down enemy ships, rush in to engage, and maneuver around slower vessels. On the approach to other capital ships it tends to be straightened out directly toward them to bring its entire arsenal to bear like most Imperial vessels. Against small targets like starfighters or freighters it instead relies on its laser cannons turrets to screen attack runs.

Unusual for a corvette was a small hangar, though only capable of holding four ships of around X-wing size or smaller, or two larger starfighters similar in size to the K-wing or Y-wing. It could also be flown by only two pilots, designed around the potential for a skeleton crew, though on their own there isn't much else they could do. The missile launchers are nestled within the port and starboard trenches, making them difficult to target but allowing a broad range of fire.

In the present day, Raider-class corvettes are not anything like as common as they once were. However, they can still be found in the service of some wealthy systems and sector defense fleets, who typically use them as patrols or pirate hunters to keep their space lanes safe and secure.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Raider-class corvettes are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To introduce an Imperial corvette into the site canon.

RESTRICTIONS
Raider-class corvettes are capital ships with powerful weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They can be acquired as a faction asset, or can be jointly owned by at least 3 player characters who work together regularly.
