Name: Rain Dancer

Biology: Rain Dancers are a sub-species of Pen Dragon, known to grown to one foot; there have been instances of reported Rain Dancers growing up to two feet, though is abnormal for their species; generally these is seen in more elder Rain Dancers, as Rain Dancers can live up to thirty years, ten years longer than the normal Pen Dragon. Similar to their regular Pen Dragon ilk, they have small claws on their fingers, longer claws seen in the back legs. Unlike the normal Pen Dragon, the Rain Dancer has more aquatic capabilities, as seen through partially webbed fingers. Their agile wings allow them complex maneuverability (hence the appearance of dancing while in flight) and can fly up to 42 miles per hour. Rain Dancers have demonstrated the ability to use their wings and their limbs to propel themselves through water, to swim. However, due to small size and subsequently smaller lung capacity, it is not able to stay underwater for long.

Similar to some reptiles, the Rain Dancer has demonstrated a chameleon ability in its skin color. Though not able to blend in perfectly, it evolved to be able to mimic a shade of color of its surroundings to hide from predators. Its bite contains a low dosage venom. Believed originally to have been more potent in the past, now the venom has more milder effects. Generally bitten areas will swell or numb. It has been reported that some Zabrak and Sith Purebloods have experienced allergic reaction to the venom (generally in the form of hives or lesions) and lethal to Ewoks and Gungans if immediate medical attention is not supplied.

One of the key differences between the Rain Dancer and the normal Pen Dragonfolk is the Pen Dragon's ability to form Force Bonds with individuals. It is theorized by many scholars that this evolutionary ability came in order to bond with larger creatures in the environment, to use the creature as defense from predators that would eat the Rain Dancers. Scholars theorize the calcified formation on the Rain Dancer's forehead acts in similar to a Force crystal, improving its ability in the Force, or at least focusing it; however, other xenobiologists have rejected this claim, suggesting the crystal-like formation is instead used similarly like an avian to break open its egg.

Subspecies: The Rain Dancer is a subspecies of the Pen Dragon. Unlike the Rain Dancer, Pen Dragons do not have such aquatic capabilities as its subspecies, nor the ability to develop Force Bonds.

Sentience: Rain Dancers are not self-aware. However, for Pen Dragons, they have demonstrated small problem-solving abilities and have been known to carry out simple tasks sent through the Force.

Breeding: Rain Dancers propagate through sexual reproduction. Offspring are born in eggs. A Rain Dancer is biologically mature and able to reproduce in four years after hatching. While Rain Dancers are able to reproduce with its common Pen Dragon ilk, birth mortality is generally low and hybrids are found to not live as long (generally only a few years).

Weaknesses: Evolving on Concordia, the Rain Dancer has adapted to a temperate environment. Alas, that has led it to be ill-equipped for harsh colds or blazing heats, preferring the forested regions of the planet over the mountainous regions. Only able to hold so much food in its system due to relatively small stature, the Rain Dancers have been noted to rest for hours on end, lazily wrapped around a tree or perched on a stone; this may be why many domesticated Rain Dancers have been known to rest on their owners' shoulders.

Diet: Rain Dancers have been known to eat almost any small insect or creature it can get its hands on. It has been known to even dive into the water and fetch small fish. During the rain, worms and insects rise to the surface, becoming a buffet for Rain Dancers. It is this feasting, flying around in the rain, that it gained the name 'Rain Dancer'. There has been documentation of swarms of Rain Dancers ganging up on larger prey, biting it repeatedly until the venom claims the beast's life.

Behavior/Temperament: Most Rain Dancers tend to have a calm demeanor, especially domesticated Rain Dancers. When not lazing around, Rain Dancers have demonstrated a curiosity, sometimes damningly so. In attempt to try to ward off possible threats, Rain Dancers have been shown to hiss at others, to scare off creatures. Rain Dancers who have developed a Force Bond with a Force user have been noted to sometimes mirror similar traits to their owner. While fine being in solitude, Rain Dancers have demonstrated pack mentality, especially for mutual defense and targeting larger prey.

Communication: Like with most non-sentient species, Rain Dancers do not have an established complex language. However, they have been documented to have different tones of hisses to mean certain things, such as danger, attack, wooing, purring, etc. Rain Dancers primarily will communicate via a Force Bond, through feelings and images. Domesticated and trained Rain Dancers have been documented to be able to comprehend some speech, able to carry out simple tasks asked of it.

Culture: No established culture. Rain Dancers have been shown to demonstrate pack mentality and are able to develop Force Bonds with others, though generally only one at a time; these Force Bonds take weeks, even months, to establish.

History: The Rain Dancers have evolved on the moon of Mandalore, Concordia. Mandalorians have varied in their views of Rain Dancers, seeing them from pets to pests. In ancient times, some Rain Dancer venom was harvested as a venom, either to sabotage enemies or insult an individual. Some Mandalorian militias have promoted new recruits to raise and bond with Rain Dancers throughout training and then at the end of training, to prove one's dedication and loyalty to the Mandalorians, shoot the attached Rain Dancer in the face.

One Rain Dancer is currently bonded with Mandalore Senator Sieghart, named Mango.

Planet: Native to Concordia. Immigrated to other planets, including Mandalore and Serenno.

Intent: I am seeking to expand the known fauna found in Mandalorian space, plus allow for an interest pet for members, especially for those who have an affinity to the Force (though not limited to Force users). And allows for some military training, of bonding with then shooting one's Rain Dancer to show dedication and loyalty (similar to some other militias in real life who do the same thing with dogs). Not to mention by god I want a dragon.
