DESCRIPTION
The "rat-stunner" pistol is a pattern of hand weapon produced by a number of different manufacturers, primarily intended for hunting vermin. Stock, it is capable of inflicting light stun damage, and is used to incapacitate rats and other similarly-sized pest species. Once stunned, these pests can be collected and either relocated or otherwise disposed of. In this form, rat-stunners are legal throughout the Galaxy, and can be acquired almost anywhere pest control supplies are sold. They are not especially effective against most sentients and larger creatures, except as an irritation.

Rat-stunners, however, are not solely used for hunting vermin. With a little technical know-how, it is possible to substitute the weapon's simple, low-power energy cell with a full-power cell, as would be found in a standard blaster pistol. With this modification, the rat-stunner loses the ability to inflict stun damage, but can then fire more lethal bolts, albeit still of relatively low power. Notably, bolts from modified rat-stunners inflict light damage on organics, but are completely ignored by even light body armor, and have no effect at all on droids.

Modified rat-stunners, though highly illegal, are popular on worlds with strict weaponry regulations, being cheap and easy to make. They have proven a boon to criminals and rebel groups, as well as to civilians in dangerous areas, and are a bane to police and weapon-control laws.

LEGALITY
Legal/restricted. In unmodified form, rat-stunners are legal and widely available in most of the Galaxy; they are, in fact, a common household tool on some planets. In modified form, they are highly illegal, although easily overlooked.

INTENT
To bring a weapon from Canon into our site's fanon.
