It was a tale as old as time. A Jedi Padawan, bored with following the rules and seeking to make a name for himself, had snuck out on some half-brained adventure. And, like most of those stories, it took a turn for the worst. Young Grimgar, Gammorrean Padawan with a reputation for impulsivity and being an aggressively skilled duelist, had, against the wishes of his Master, left the safety of the Jedi Fleet to stop a slavery ring that had been slowly gathering strength. The reasons against going were obvious; stopping slavers usually required months of effort and coordination between factions, the slavers in question had both numbers and weapons, and, chiefly, they had ties to the Hutt Cartel. As one might guess, the misguided Padawan didn't succeed in stopping the slavers and actually succeeded in becoming enslaved himself.

Fortunately for the Padawan, the Jedi were not ones to abandon one of their own.

Nimia was where the boy had been taken. A lackluster industrial world, Nimia was occasionally used as a meeting place between Hutt servants and outlanders who had failed to attract much favor with the Hutts. A sad and desolate place, the planet's elites were oftentimes bored with the planet's meager accomodations and were filled with rage at their low lot in life. One such elite, a Nautolan named Nee Neemik, had found that staging gladiator games in one of the city's run-down arenas. It was a way to pass the time and earn him some credits simultaneously and, amongst the locals, they were a popular weekend activity. And this weekend, the main event was a Jedi taking on Nee Neemik's entire menagerie.

Already, Grimgar, the Jedi Padawan had proven to be an entertaining champion. Round 1 against the starving dewbacks? Too easy for a Jedi. Round 2 against the Cthon half-savages? A couple of nicks but the Jedi had preserved. But now it was Round 3 against the Icetromper from Hoth and Grimgar the Padawan was showing signs of fatigue. Even if he managed to overcome this gargantuan opponent, his next foe would be a pair of acklays, and there were still more rounds after.

Fortunately, the Jedi had had a plan. Not wanting to risk an incident with the Hutt Cartel, the Jedi rescue team had waited for the Gammorrean Jedi to be sold to the politically neutral Neemik. Now, they lay scattered amongst the arena crowd, waiting for the right moment to spring their rescue and make their move. One member of the team, Knight-Bot was disguised as a bartender droid. Due to his programming, he was spilling drinks and being quite rude to customers but, given the usual level of customer service on Hutt worlds, he was beneath suspicion for now.

Jonas frowned as he looked into the arena below, seeing the Padawan fight off another round. This wasn't the type of thing you just walked out of; the thug running the show would increase the challenge until, ultimately, the Padawan would die.

Jonas had forsaken his usual Jedi clothes for a plain set with a black cloak. His lightsaber was concealed underneath but accessible enough if he needed it.

He looked over at Knight-Bot, who had insisted on disguising himself as a bartender droid. It spilled a drink on a Jawa who gestured frantically at him. Jonas couldn't help but let out a quiet sigh. He waited for the droid to come over, Jonas grabbing a drink from the shaky tray. "I think you are getting better, friend." he whispered.

"Have you figured out how to get backstage to cause a distraction yet?" he asked, looking down at the tired Gammorrean.

"I am keeping careful note of the Padawan's position. Making an early move could be disastrous. According to Temple Records, SUBJECT: PADAWAN GRIMGAR is a capable duelist. ANALYSIS: He should last another two rounds before intervention is necessary." Knight-Bot told Jonas on his lowest volume setting to avoid being overheard. As if the galaxy itself wished to contradict the droid, the two Jedi agents suddenly heard a cry of pain come down from the arena. The icetromper had just knocked Grimgar into a wall.

"AMENDMENT: Action is needed now. I am on my way. SUGGESTION: The transparishield will still need to be disabled before a proper escape can be made." Knight-Bot corrected himself as he pushed past the complaining Jawa to head below the arena backstage. The transparishield the droid referred to was what separated the Padawan from the spectators. It was a clear energy field that served to keep the arena's gladiators contained - otherwise giving a Jedi a lightsaber would be a disastrous outcome for Neemik. The only way to get him out of here would be to somehow shut it down or circumvent it.

A couple of Nee Neemik's guards lazily looked up as the droid walked by them but went back to scrolling on their datapads. A couple of mind tricks, some fake identification, and Hutt Space's refusal to ask too many questions, had granted Knight-Bot and Jonas entry into the arena staff and, so, were a familiar enough site to the guards. In fact, given how bad of a bartender Knight-Bot was, the sentries probably assumed he was heading down to maintenance.

But instead of turning left down to maintenance, Knight-Bot headed right instead, towards the animal pits. Cage after cage of exotic, starving and dangerous beasts lay before the Jedi droid. The corridors, silent at first, now echoed with cheers coming from upstairs, which Knight-Bot figured meant that Grimgar had somehow managed to slay the icetromper. That meant that the acklays would be next; a fact supported by an Ugnaught beastmaster walking towards the two massive acklay cages and unlocking them.

"Your services will no longer be required today." Knight-Bot taunted before knocking the Ugnaught out cold with a calculated blow. Relocking the acklay cages, Knight-Bot realized that a delay would only be tolerated for so long. The audience wanted blood and if another champion didn't show up soon, Neemik would send down guards to investigate. So, buying time, Knight-Bot strode up the service ramp into the arena proper.

A hush fell on the crowd as the droid entered the stage, igniting his lightsaber. An old DT-series droid with a Jedi weapon? That certainly hadn't been advertised on the pamphlets but it was a welcome addition nonetheless. The hush of surprise quickly erupted into cheers as Knight-Bot swung his blade at Grimgar. It might look impressive to the crowd but Knight-Bot was using his slowest setting and his most easy-to-parry moves, relying on Grimgar's training room records to give him the easiest matchup he could. The goal was to entertain the crowd and confuse Neemik for long enough for Jonas to make his move and disable the shield ceiling above them.

"Knight-Bot?" the Padawan wondered aloud as he blocked the droid's swings. Although Knight-Bot was usually reserved as a training droid for Knights only, the Padawan recognized the droid and figured he'd lost enough blood to be hallucinating now. The Jedi robot wanted to reassure the Gammorrean but realized such comforts might give away their positon.

It would have been a lie to say he wasn't just a slightly bit nervous sending Knight-Bot on his own, but they would need to split up if they were going to be able to protect the Padawan. The young Jedi's injuries only made their mission more urgent.

He made his way to the control room above the arena. Two thugs guarded the door, and the controls of the area were just beyond. However, he would need to do this quickly and quietly. He made his way across the metal catwalk high above the arena as Knight Bot burst out from below, drawing his lightsaber.

"Hey, you can't be up here!" one of the thugs spat. Jonas stepped up, using the Force to quicken him; he struck at the first guard, hoping the sudden strike would give him an advantage. He hadn't expected the hidden metal armor the thug was wearing. The thug smiled as Jonas pulled away a pained hand. "Oh, you're gonna regret that." the huge thug spoke.

Jonas took a punch for his efforts, stumbling back. He could use his lightsaber and end this quickly, but that would be his last resort.

Nee Neemik stood up from his VIP booth and angrily began shouting and gesticulating, while his flunkies scrambled to fulfil his orders. For the life of them, they couldn't understand why their boss was so angry. After all, the lightsaber droid proved to be a hit - who cared if he wasn't on the schedule? But Nee Neemik had been in the gladiator game long enough to know when something deserved attention. The moment something didn't go according to schedule, the next thing you know, you had a gladiator revolt on your hand.

However, for now, Neemik's men hadn't made their way to the arena and Knight-Bot continued to perform exaggerated saberwork in order to delight the crowd and make it easy for the Gammorrean Padawan to deflect his blows and stay alive.

"REASSURANCE: Don't worry Padawan Grimmgar. One of the Order's finest Knights is currently working to dismantle the shield ceiling above us. You'll soon be safe at home." Knight-Bot said comfortingly, little realizing how much trouble Jonas was having above him.

Jonas bounced off the rail and stumbled to the floor as the on-guard charged him and tried to stomp him. Jonas rolled, grabbing the man's leg and twisting. The man went sprawling as the Jedi Knight jumped up.

The second guard surged forward with a knife, swinging towards the Jedi's stomach. Jonas dodged several swipes before ducking in a hitting the man.

The fight ensued a few seconds longer, Jonas finally winning out but certainly bruised. He stumbled into the control room and began looking for the shield controls. It took a moment, but he finally found them after hitting several buttons, slamming the button. "Shields should be down!" he said.

He hadn't realized that he had hit the button that would raise the Acklay to the fighting ring and let it loose on the pair below. he started to make his way back below.

"See, Padawan, I told you that all would be well!" Knight-Bot said cheerily, wondering why the young Gammorrean was looking towards the center of the arena with his mouth agape. Knight-Bot's logic processors deemed it likely that an imminent threat was inbound and the saber-wielding droid turned to see what had provoked such a reaction.

It was not good.

A giant acklay, already vicious enough on its own, had just emerged from its cage starving and in search of blood. Knight-Bot and Grimmgar both kept their sabers drawn, waiting for the beast to make the first move. They didn't have to wait long. A squad of Neemik's guards came pouring through one of the arena service gates, gung ho and blasters blazing. However, they soon stopped short when they saw the arena's new arrival. They immediately spun around and tried to turn back but it was in vain as the acklay immediately bisected one of them and then jumped in front of the rest, blocking their exit.

Pandemonium soon broke out. The guards scattered, some shooting the acklay to no avail, and the acklay bellowed and began charging forward to destroy its captors and feast. Grimmgar, under Knight-Bot's urging, leapt up to the wall of the arena, which was now quickly clearing out now that the acklay was loose and no shield wall protected the spectators. Knight-Bot saw the Gammorrean make the jump and was relieved. Jonas could keep him safe now. Knight-Bot's relief was soon interrupted by a giant pincer from the acklay knocking him on its ass, sending his saber flying from his grip. Having been programmed to fight sentients with blasters or lightsaber, Knight-Bot was quite at a loss on how to deal with the acklay. As the beast moved towards him, the robot thought that if he survived, he could probably analyze its fighting pattern and be better prepared for next time. But he didn't expect a rescue.

He was, after all, only a droid.

Jonas ran back down the catwalk, half the crowd eating the "show" up, assuming this was all a part of it, with the other half realizing just how much danger they were in.

Rushing down the stairs, he tried pushing through the crowd to get to Knight-Bot in time after seeing him knocked to the ground. The now panicked crowd surged out of the small arena, making it a difficult river to push against.

It took precious seconds, but he finally made it. Seeing the Padawan was safe, he leaped the wall down to the arena. "Stay here!" he shouted to the Padawan as he jumped down. The acklay spun on him quickly, faster than he thought, catching him off guard. The creature sliced with the arm, Jonas avoided being bisected but received a deep cut on the outside of his arm.

Knight-Bot took a long time to get up, his internal gyration having been a bit frizzy after getting knocked about the acklay. But as he did, he was surprised and touched to see that Jonas had come down for him. It was, of course, extremely misguided and illogical - Knight-Bot was only a droid - but it was a nice gesture nonetheless. Wanting to make sure that Jonas did not throw away his life needlessly, Knight-Bot calculated the most likely outcome where all three Jedi would make it out of here in one piece and then acted.

Jumping forward, he let out a bit of lightning from his electroshock glovess, driving the acklay back. The great beast stayed back but paced angrily, gauging whether or not it was worth making another move at them. Knight-Bot turned to Jonas and pointed towards the stands, nonverbally asking for a Force-assisted jump.

Jonas' arm bled heavily from the wound on his arm; pain shot up the limb if he tried to move it. He raised his lightsaber defensively with his off-hand as the Acklay lunged but was pushed back by Knight-Bot.

The creature screeched as it recoiled to the other side of the arena before snapping back at them. When Knight-Bot asked for a boost, Jonas gathered the Force around the droid and heaved him upward. Not wanting to stick around any longer, he jumped as well, clearing the fence. The Ackley started to scale the fence, but they had a second.

"Let's get out of here." he said to the other two as they started for the door.

"Agreed." said-Knight-Bot calmly, even as he was in the midst of bisecting two of Nee Neemik's guards with his lightsaber. Fortunately, those two seemed to be the only two hassling the three Jedi as the rest were either fleeing for their lives or seeking to contain the acklay, who was in the process of either trying to destroy the arena around them or escape it. Possibly both.

"Master Syl, I'm sorry for running away. Please, don't tell the Council. Grimmgar the wounded Jedi Padawan plead to Jonas as the trio made their way out of the arena and through the panicking crowd towards the Jedi ship.

"From past instances recorded in the Temple archives, reporting to the Council has been standard." Knight-Bot "helpfully" pointed out before defaulting towards Jonas for the Gammorrean boy's ultimate fate.
