*RUMBLE*

The sound of thunder echoed across the deep night sky, rumbling through the clouds. In the distance lightning flashed, illuminating the dark.

Footsteps. Rapid.

Bri ran. Past trees, through bushes, over roots. The tall vegetation of the forest seemed to lean down on the Jedi, almost overbearing in as she sprinted through. It closed around her. She could feel the hammering of her heartbeat as she pushed her legs faster and faster. Heavy breathing. Deep gulps of air. Bri's head turned, looking behind her. Nothing.

No, not nothing. Something. Darkness. A rush.

The Jedi continued to sprint.

*BOOM*

Another hammer of thunder.

Wind swirled and circled all around. The leaves and branches strained against the gale. Everything was dark around. The only source of light was the intermittent flash of lightning. Disorientation. Whatever was pursuing was getting closer. Bri turned her head around again, a rush of darkness. She tried to run faster.

*CRACK*

All of a sudden the forest reached its end. A cliff's edge overlooked a steep drop into the abyss below. The impending sense of ruin approached. Something. Something was coming. Bri looked around and saw nothing, but felt the rush of wind, of shadow. She turned back around and took a deep breath. It was right behind hear. Reaching out. Her legs strained and launched forward. Off the cliff. Into the unknown.

Bri bolted upright in her bed, sucking in deep breaths of air. Her lungs grateful. Her pulse throbbed and raced, but as realization dawned, it began to slow. Her bedroom was pitch black, save for the soft illumination of digital clock numbers on the wall. It read 04:22. She rubbed her face. The Jedi's brow was wet with perspiration, and her hair was damp to the touch. She tossed the blanked off, almost in frustration - then got up with an audible groan. Bri walked to the bathroom and turned the light on, squinting as the artificial light filled the space and nearly blinded her vision.

Her blonde hair was tangled into a flaxen mess. There was only so much to be done, as she ran her fingers through then pulled it up into a ponytail. Circles sagged under her light blue eyes. She reached and twisted the knob for cool water, the sink slowly filling. Cupping her hands, Bri splashed and rubbed her face. The cold water felt refreshing. Bri shook the excess water from her hands before drying them, and her face, off with a towel. She stared at the reflection in the mirror for a moment longer, then exited, turning off the light. Her eyes struggled with the return to darkness but she navigated admirably and found the button which opened the door of the bedroom to the common area in her ship. She grabbed a thin, dark blue robe on her way out.

The ship was also dark but the ambient light of various screens and devices provided enough to see. The cooler air chilled against Bri's body, making her realize just how much she had sweat while sleeping. She pulled the robe over the plain t-shirt she had on, and walked the circular path around the ship to the cockpit. The azure swirls of hyperspace streamed and snaked through and alongside. It was something she struggled with while flying (and sleeping) in space - the lack of a sunrise. She had her ships clock set to Yavin time since it was where she spent most of her time, but her circadian rhythm often got a little off.

Bri flopped down into the pilots chair. She pulled the robe tighter around her body and stared, bringing a pensive finger to her chin.

That was no dream.
