Caela and her brother, Zatreyu, lived with their parents on a secluded planet for most of their early childhood. When it became evident that the siblings were Force sensitive, their parents trained them in the ways of the Force. Both of them were majorly neutral, but Caela had more of a draw to the light side. Caela and Zatreyu were kidnapped by a band of criminals when Caela was 9 and Zatreyu was 12.Age19

Their parents were grief stricken and tried to find their children and rescue them from the criminal's clutches. Zatreyu and Caela work for the syndicate for five years. Finally the two parents managed to find the large freighter the siblings were on and attempted a rescue. They made it onto the ship and found the siblings, hurrying them to an escape pod. However, the criminals gave chase. Their mother got them on the ship she and their father had arrived on, and their father stayed behind to defend the ship so it could take off, while the mother flew away with the kids. Their father got shot down in front of all them as they left the port of the freighter. They are chased near Juvexia because Caela and Zatreyu's parents had offended the criminals a while ago (unintentionally) and there had been a bounty recently put on their heads after their Force sensitivity became known. The ship is nearly shot down, so the mother loads them into the escape pods and fires them down to the planet while drawing away the pirates or criminals. Caela and Zatreyu watch from the falling pod. as the ship their mother is blown up.
The pod was spotted by scouts on Juvexia and they converged on it when it landed. Zatreyu and Caela were too weak and shocked to fight back and where taken in as slaves.
Although they were both slaves, Caela and her brother had different tasks. At first, every time she or her brother disobeyed or broke the rules, they sold her for the night to the highest paying being. This changed both siblings, and they obeyed afterwards. Caela fights in the pit periodically, and if she wins, she is sold to the highest bettor. If she loses, her brother is whipped. Whenever she wasn't fighting, whoever would win the other fights would get her for the night; this was a motivation for her brother to win every match he was placed in, to keep her safe for the night.

Caela is quiet but fierce. She is not a trusting person; the only person she truly trusts is her brother. She can be short and snappy with anyone besides her brother, with whom she is truly herself- a young, broken girl whose innocence and childhood were lost too early. She has learned to build a wall around her mind and emotions with the Force.
