While boasting an official top speed of 85 MGLT, most pilots find that the standard production-line models fly start to fly themselves apart at speeds over 80 MGLT so most do not exceed 70-75 MGLT. Otherwise the Rinashi Regent is known for its speed and smooth handling.

DESCRIPTION
Developed as the Rinashi Corporation's first foray into starship design and engineering, the Regent-Class Explorer line was the brainchild of Rinashi Founder and CEO Luron Tanedar who dreamt of making a starship equivalent of Rinashi's large capacity luxury airspeeders. While the prototype, unveiled as "the SuperShip" at the Fondor Trade Expo, was announced in 120 ABY, it took a further four years for the Regent to enter commercial production and another three to clear the backlog of pre-orders. Almost immediately the ship received a reputation as being over-designed and over-engineered, especially in comparison to the well-received and consumer friendly Rinashi Sovereign-Class 20A Light Freighter, which shares a hullframe with the Regent. While its systems were noted as being top of the line and over-all reliable, the focus of Luron Tanedar on non-standard technologies for the Regent instead of more common parts for the high-end starship market also made it the bane of most mechanics and repair specialists who were unfamiliar with tech like the Rinashi proprietary INUR-X operating system for the computer cores.

When compared to other models intended for long term or long distance travel the Regent-Class also notably lacked modularity with its many proprietary systems. While its high capacity shield generator was appreciated by many core-ward buyers, the lack of weaponry and expandable hardpoints in the initial production line models hampered sales in the Outer-Rim or with Rim-Ward Scouting and Exploration companies and freelancers. Similarly its dual-core Hyperdrive system, while sounding great on paper and marketed as one of its major selling points, did not double the range or lifespan of the hyperdrive cores as intended and the system designed to switch between them in-flight was noted as being finicky and not nearly as power-efficient as marketed. That the hull could hardly sustain it's max rated speed (likewise a major marketing point) led to a class action lawsuit by disgruntled buyers against the company.

In its chosen market of high-paying, wide-traveling luxury ship buyers the Regent gradually developed a positive reputation over time, especially with the introduction of later production models. However it never really entered the wide circulation Luron Tanedar had hoped for, nor became the status symbol Rinashi thought would put them on the map. While it commands a devoted fanbase, the Regent "Three-Zero-Cee" is largely dismissed by most galactic consumers and starship dealers as being a pretty but ultimately over-engineered albatross.

LEGALITY
While the base model requires no special licenses to own and operate other than its expensive price-tag, modifying the probe launcher systems of earlier models voids the warranty and is legally actionable. Newer models have hardpoints that could be used to outfit weapon systems on the hull but these require special licenses and registration.

INTENT
Ultimately the idea for the Regent spawned from the "what if" scenario of what a Linux-powered Tesla with built-in Zune fuctionality would look like... in space. I oscilated back and forth between making this a pure exploration/scout vehicle or a luxury yacht but ultimately I decided on making it a bit of both, sort of a luxury SUV-type (you can tell I'm American can't you?) that is designed for one thing but ultimately used for something quite different. In this way I thought it would be unique as a science-vessel, which we don't see too much of in Star Wars, and that it's not a plucky freighter but an advanced luxury starship.

RESTRICTIONS
The Regent is presumably expensive but I have no idea how this would be implemented as a Restriction if need be.
