El's stomach growled. When was the last time he had eaten? It must of been the meal before he had been released from jail. He had been too busy to even think about it. He had been betrayed by his gang. The idiots couldn't see that the job would have set them all up but they had stabbed him in the back, leaving him to be captured. They would get what was coming to them soon enough but first he needed some credits to get back on his feet.

The young criminal was broke, powerless, and just about at the end of his rope but he still had a contact or two with the Syndicates, one had led him to the warehouse district on Corellia. His red eyes darted around looking for his contact. He had got his hands on an hold, worn out looking blaster and kept a hand close to it as he waited. He wasn't going back to prison, he wouldn't do it. He hoped it would fire when it came down to it.

He forcibly willed his hand to stop shaking as he reached for a cigarette. He leaned against a wall where he had been told his contact would be meeting, hopefully with a job or at least some kriffing food he could steal off of him.

El frowned as his stomach growled again.

The Man in the Hat

Back alley meetings were never quite a personal craving of Baymon when it came to his kind of career life. Apart from a horrible cliche, sometimes it was the shadows you used to conduct your shady business in that ended up swallowing you whole. Even though this one had first been checked out, it was all he could do to frown while negotiating a quarter of the way through it, tailored in the kind of attire that really had no business going down warehouse alleyways in the dark. He had enemies on Corellia who would love to see his grey suit spattered in red, and for all he knew they were in the alley waiting for him as much as he was hiding from them.

So he left his closest associate, Zenke, to keep watch in the back after spotting what could only be his newest associate. Baymon took note of this Chiss’ own apparel and needed no calculator to confirm that he was down on his luck. Amid the minimal lighting, that cigarette looked like something of a best friend for the one smoking it.

“Greetings!” Baymon greeted with a smile and open hands, a cigar between the fingers of one. “I’m Baymon Bluevynson. That gentleman over there is Zenke. He’s not entirely talkative but he is fantastic at shutting other people up. My enemies, namely. You’re not one but we do share one.”

Savoring the rolled tobacco’s sweet smell of cocoa and leather across his nostrils, he lit the cigar up, took a puff and blew smoke at the darkness. “I’m after a Falleen who goes by the dreadfully trendy moniker of “Cosmic Cobra”. An all too eager supplier of the only sticks that beat you to death while making you feel good about it. This colorful character is also a ruthless rival of mine who would want me dead if she saw me and, if she knows that you’re standing before me right now, well…”

He trailed off, his shoulders debating whether to shrug. “You as well, most likely, making her your enemy too. So I’m here to help you cut the head off this Cosmic Cobra before she can even think to turn it. I’m also feeling a trend of generosity, enough to pay you in more ways than one. With me so far?”

He twitched slightly as the man spoke, louder than one normally would in an alley such as this. It wasn't loud, but even the rats seemed the scatter at the sound. Elias stilled himself, looking up at the man approaching him. He seemed out of place in a dump like this. He studied the man, red eyes scanning him as he began to speak.

When the newcomer had mentioned his associate, Elias looked past the man. Now that was a character that looked the part. Who was this guy. He had never heard of him. Had the players changed that much during his time away?

After a moment of silence, he broke in with his own name. "You can call me El," he said, dropping the burnt out cigarette. That was his last one, he could already feel the craving for another one. Luckily he was distracted by name of their supposed target. He let out a chuckle and paused. "Oh wait, you're serious? That's their name? No...you're messing with me. That sounds like the galaxy's lamest halo-drama hero." he said, almost laughing again.

He wasn't sure how ruthless this character actually was. It certainly wasn't a name that inspired alot of fear in Elias. "So how do propose we take out this....Cosmic Cobra." he asked.

Maybe his luck was turning and this would be an easy job. The guy infront of him looked like the type of person who could actually pay out as well.

“L”. The name rattled around in Baymon’s skull like the head of a cobra in a coffin. Wonder what it stands for… When L snatched at the name of their target to squeeze it like a fruit, his would be employer could only chuckle along with. “Yes, I know! As I said, dreadful moniker!” Though perhaps I should not mention the meaning behind the name just yet.
"So how do propose we take out this....Cosmic Cobra."
The Chiss’ cigarette was a snuffed out stick of nothing on the dirty wet ground while the Human’s cigar was still fat with spiced tobacco as he inhaled. “With a blaster in a back alley.” He answered through a cloud. As plumes of smoke curled toward the night sky, Baymon wondered what his counterpart might think when gazing up at it. Freedom? Why do any of us look to the sky for it when it starts on the ground?

“If it comes to it, though I’d prefer something a little less messy. One way is that you infiltrate her lab as a young dumb out-of-luck who has made some bad choices in life, one who is looking to make better ones by assembling her packages on a line one day after the other for poor pay but the brilliant benefit of being off the street and working with your fellow ruffians. And, supervised by aging Ugnaughts, I hear.”

He shrugged. “Anyway, once you’re in, our Cosmic Cobra will personally inspect a few assembled packages that make it off the line, a compulsive routine that I hear she follows without fail. The fun part is that one of those nameless packages is one that you personally bundled on the line. After our dear Falleen finishes her personal QC, at some approximation of minutes later she'll be up in her office with her stilettos propped on her desk, leaning back with a bloody nose and never able to wake again. Unless, by some profound universal power, she really is a cosmic cobra and can come back to life by...eating her own tail. Who knows?" It was a theory, at least, whatever that was worth. Besides absolutely nothing.

He listened to man's plans as they were. He hadn't been told it was him who would be doing all the work. His hands twitched slightly. He needed something stronger than cigarettes. Tucking his hands into his pocket, he spoke when the man had finished. "So what are we talking about for payment?" he asked meeting the man's eyes with his own. He wasn't about to solve this man's personal vendetta for chump change. Well, at least that's what he wanted the man to think.

After they had come to an agreement on numbers, he paused for a moment. "Alright, I am in. Lead the way," he said. Elias moved cautiously as if he could bolt at any minute. He had a sinking feeling it wouldn't be as easy as the man had made it out to be.

"So what if she doesn't give me a job, what's the plan then?" he asked, turning back towards the man as they walked.

Baymon eyed that twitch up as though the hand that made it needed a pistol grip to fill it. As those hands found pockets, Baymon found himself going over what he felt was a generous donation to the Chiss for all the hard work he was about to do. It appeared to be profitable enough for the two to shake invisible hands and march on, Baymon barely glancing at a shadow as the alley opened up with Zenke toward its end.

“In the unlikely event that you don’t get in through the front door then you’ll just have to use the back entrance, and there isn’t one so my plan had better work.” It was his turn to pause just then as he blew smoke one way and looked another. “Did you hear something?”

Without waiting for much of an answer from his associate, he reached behind his coat and retrieved an object from the belt. A moment later and a blaster bolt soared into the shadows, and the next moment a Duros crumpled to the ground without a twitch. Baymon holstered his handgun and turned toward L.

“All right, so here’s the plan. First, my apologies for the deception, but if you want to you can check our fallen friend for a sneaky little device that allowed his employer to hear everything that we just talked about. The Duros worked for the Falleen. I had someone tip him off about tonight’s chitchat and I bet that he was elated at the prospect of being rewarded for his striking intel. Oh well!” Baymon didn’t need the proof in the Duros' pockets but maybe L did. He would wait either way before continuing. He had of course just killed someone but from what he understood this Chiss was not exactly alien to violence.
