DESCRIPTION
Originally designed by CEC as the company's bid for the same Imperial Corvette contract that saw the Kuat Driveyards produce the original Raider-Class Corvette, the RP-10 Corvette was the CEC's attempt to remain in Imperial favour despite increased usage of their products by the Rebel Alliance. Due to the perception of Imperial High Command, a few bribes and strategic considerations, the RP-10 was passed over by the Imperial Navy in favour of the Raider-Class Corvette. Rather than be discouraged, CEC remarketed the corvette to the private sector instead and focused their marketing on the features that were different to the Raider. Specifically, the RP-10 was designed to be more of an actual fast-raiding vessel than the Raider-Class Corvette was, with additional sublight speed due to the iconic Corellian cluster engines and a focus on deep scouting missions with the increased range and sophistication of both sensors and communications suites.
With more room for storage and supplies, the RP-10 was picked up not by most naval defence forces but rather by private interests - it was tasked most often as escort craft for long-range scouting missions into the Unknown Regions and Wild Space for mining and trade purposes. In these more lawless areas of space, with sometimes years between dedicated repairs, the rugged nature of the CEC designs were prized far more than the more resource intensive KDY products.
However, the RP-10 does fall down compared to its old running rival in a fair few ways, lacking any kind of hanger bay for fighter support and a reduction in the number of weapons overall being the two largest complaints with the model. Despite being outgunned by many corvettes in the Galaxy, the RP-10 remains a warship even if it's most common usage has historically been by non-naval personnel.
LEGALITY
Restricted. RP-10 corvettes are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.INTENT
To make a corvette-sized capital ship with a focus on speed and scouting capabilities, while using some of the stellar art of Rasmus Poulsen.RESTRICTIONS
RP-10 corvettes are capital ships with powerful weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They can be acquired as a faction asset, or can be jointly owned by at least 3 player characters who work together regularly.
