BIOGRAPHY
Rylan was born a slave to the Sith, as her parents and grandparents before her. She was complacent with her lot in life, knowing full well any sort of rebellion or infraction would harm her family as much as herself. It wasn't all bad, as she made some friends among the slaves and was even tolerated among the Sith themselves, although it remained a tough environment, with betrayals nearly a weekly occurrence. One of her friends, a fellow slave called Van, was discovered to be Force Sensitive when they were children. He was taken to become a Sith, and Rylan didn't encounter Van again until they were both nearing adulthood.
On that day, Rylan found him part of a trial. Part of his training was to let go of old tethers, one of which was his friendship with Rylan. She was wordlessly taken by Sith warriors to a secluded area, where the two reunited. Van gave her a weapon to defend herself and immediately set upon killing her. Terrified and desperate, Rylan only just managed to defeat him thanks to the stressed discovery of her own abilities, and because of the weakness Van showed when he wouldn't kill her unarmed. The battle was won and Van was killed, although she earned some scars in the process. She acted upon her instincts and fled before the Sith warriors could return, stowed away on a freighter, and kept moving until she hit Republic Space.
She had no idea how to control her abilities, knowing only that they seemed to react to her emotions, like they had with her fallen friend Van. Rylan spent her days alone and afraid until the Force led her to an encounter with a wandering Jedi, who brought her to Tython to help. She has since spent the last five years under their careful guidance.

PERSONALITY AND CHARACTERISTICS
With only her Sith Masters to look up to for guidance, Rylan has a particular instinct for danger and trusting her gut reactions. Her former complacency has been replaced with doubt and distrustfulness. It takes a lot for her to warm up to someone, but when she does she's a loyal and trustworthy person. Her flaws shine through as much as her strengths, such her strong desire to be better than she is and her ambitious drive to achieve her goals. These goals, however, do not include reuniting with her family. She learned some time later when she tried to reach out to them they'd been executed in her stead for Van's death. Ry carries that guilt around with her, coupled by her horror with killing her friend.
Rylan has difficulty emptying herself of emotion and finding peace in tranquility, especially true since she was brought to the Jedi at an advanced age. She is willing to learn so she can control her abilities, although she can be overcome with fear of them, considering how she'd seen Van had changed when he'd found his own. She is plagued by self-doubt and chooses to hide it behind a mask of sarcasm rather than properly deal with it.
Nevertheless, she is a dedicated and spirited individual who wants nothing more than to live in peace, without fear of the Force or the Sith, making her an easy ally for the Jedi and the Republic.

WEAPONS, ARMOUR, AND TRAINING
Hand to hand - Ry can survive a scrap easy enough, and was her main form of defense back on Ziost before her departure. As a self-taught fighter, she used anything at her immediate disposal to gain an edge. She reacts rather than anticipates.
Vibroknife - The weapon Van tossed her. She kept it simply because she'd forgotten to drop it in her flight.
Lightsabers - Constructed in her third year with the Jedi. Dual blue blades that join at the base via a locking mechanism to form a single, double-bladed weapon. This has made her practiced in Form VI, as well as focusing on Forms III and V. Form V tends to suit her reactionary abilities, though she will also defer to the base Form I like many other students.
Clothing - No special armour to speak of. Rylan wears casual clothes that she can move easily in. Has a particular fondness for jackets, but isn't adverse to Jedi robes. Quite fond of disguising herself for intrigue missions.
