SABACC
Sabacc is the name of a popular card game with numerous variations, many of them including a hard-to-beat hand also called sabacc. Often played at high stakes, the goal of many versions of the game is to win the sabacc pot by collecting a hand with an absolute value closest to 23, but no higher. A typical sabacc deck comprised 76 cards (60 plus 16 special cards), all of which had a specific value. However, some variants used different decks. Therefore, sabacc often needs a standard system of rules...
Sabacc is a game of both skill and chance that can be played with as few as two and as many as eight players. Players may designate a dealer or take turns as the dealer, rotating in a clockwise fashion at the beginning of each hand. Sabacc is a complex and unpredictable game, as a potential winning hand could turn into a losing one if not used at the right moment, and its odds were always in the house's favor.
You MUST state exactly what number you choose, as well as whether it is positive or negative, in your first post. Editing is cheating. Cheating will result in an automatic loss and disqualification. Whatever you have already bet is given to the host.
There are two pots: The main pot and the Sabacc pot. Each hand starts with each player placing an ante into both the Main Pot and the Sabacc Pot. Subsequent bets during the hand will be placed only into the Main Pot. Beginning with the player to the dealer's left, each player may elect to either bet or fold... Once the initial betting is complete, each player is dealt two cards. Players then take turns drawing a card or standing.
One last round of betting occurs, starting with the Calling player, and then players reveal their cards. Any player with a hand totalling more than 23, less than -23, or exactly 0 at the time the hand is called has Bombed Out... The winning player takes the contents of the Main Pot. If that player won with a Pure Sabacc or an Idiot's Array, the Sabacc Pot is also collected.
There are two regular ways to win: Either have a hand equaling 23 or one equal to -23. Both of these are known as "pure sabacc" hands. There is a third less common way to win, known as the "Idiot's Array" where a player holds an Idiot, a 2 and a 3 (literally: 023). If no players have any of these hands, the player whose absolute value is closest to 23 takes the main pot. One must get full sabacc or idiot's array to claim the Sabacc pot, which normally has better prizes. If one or more players have one of these hands, they must go head to head for the win. If no one wins the Sabacc pot, its contents are either given to the host (were it to be a casino or other organized event), or returned to the individuals.
