DESCRIPTION
The SG-82 sonic rifle by Pacnorval Defense Systems, Limited, is a sonic weapon primarily used by law enforcement for riot control and non-lethal take-downs of suspects and fleeing criminals. One of the more popular weapons made for this purpose, the SG-82 is well liked by those who use it, and is widely used across the Galaxy.

Like all sonic weapons, the SG-82 operates by generating a "bolt" of coherent "hard sound," which at maximum intensity can rupture blood vessels, shred muscles and even cause fatal injuries if aimed at the right spot. Unlike blaster weapons, which tend to cauterize wounds on the way in, sonic wounds tend to be messier and harder to treat. This being said, SG-82s are seldom used at this lethal setting, and are more often used on their stun setting, which is tuned to incapacitate most beings with an effect similar to a blaster on the same setting.

In addition to their ranged capability, SG-82s are notable for having a stun club protruding from the grip, allowing any being in possession of such a weapon to incapacitate most foes at extreme close range with a solid blow. Also of note, SG-82s cannot be used in a vacuum, as they must have an atmosphere for their sonic projectiles to propagate through; they are, however, doubly effective underwater.

In addition to their use in riot control and non-lethal interdiction, some bounty hunters favor the SG-82 as a weapon of choice against Jedi and other Force users, believing that the sonic nature of its projectiles allows them to avoid deflection by lightsabers. This is, unfortunately for said bounty hunters, only half true; while it is true that sonic bolts cannot be reflected back at the source, dissipating upon contact with an obstacle, they can easily be blocked in the same fashion as a normal blaster bolt.

LEGALITY
Legal. Ownership of sonic rifles is not restricted in most of the Galaxy, although openly wielding one in public may be considered unlawful on more civilized worlds.

INTENT
To bring a weapon from Legends canon into our site's fanon.
