Shadow Walkers

Creation and Description
"They are no one, nothing and everything. They are our front lines and our last lines. They will not fail, they cannot."
~Tactical Commander Mar'tel'Mar on Shadow Walkers

Once instated as Tactical Commander, Mar'tel'Mar realized the need of an Elite squad that was capable of handling more delicate tasks that other divisions could not, such as the Military and the Immortals. So one of the first things he did was to begin working on drafts for a new type of unit that would that criteria and represent some of the best the Chiss has to offer. Eventually, after hours of brainstorming and consulting various confidants, most within CAIN, the Shadow Walkers were born. Now with the plan, Martel had to approach the Grand Imperator at the time, Arch'elie'lia, with the draft so that it can be approved and Martel can then begin searching for candidates. It did not take long after seeing the draft till Arch'elie'lia gave the green light to start the unit, giving the unit nearly unlimited resources for his team.

The make up for the unit is rather small in galactic scales, numbering at around five hundred, and then there is Martel and the Grand Imperator as the overseers of the overall unit. Each team consists of a highly trained sniper able to take shots from longer distances than the average sniper, then there is the grunt that is equipped with weaponry that is on par with that of the Immortals, then there is the Psy-operative who is a highly trained force sensitive, especially trained for the use of illusion and stealth based powers and the Engineer, a technical genius who is able to hack even the most complex terminals, and use other technical skills in battle. Each member has customized equipment, especially made for their roles, and can be customized further by the user. They also have access to some of the best equipment and weapons available to the Chiss Ascendancy, an advantage they share with the Immortals. Every member goes through training so advanced that they can fill any other role if necessary, but less efficient. They are also given full access to advance simulators that range from actual battle simulators to marksmanship games, which can be used in their free time.

Their main purpose is to do recon and scout missions deep behind enemy lines, before an invasion force gets there, and making exit damage no other unit of the Chiss Army would dare, or can, attempt when an invasion force does arrive. They earned the name Shadow Walkers by being invisible during their missions, leaving no trace of the Ascendancy when they are done. Due to their effectiveness, however, they are sometimes called on sabotage missions right before a huge battle to assassinate High Value Targets (or HVTs). They are some of the best the Chiss Army has to offer.

Because of their remarkable abilities in stealth, they are considered legends to the general Chiss Public and are not even known outside of Chiss Territory except to those in charge of the Chiss' allies. The names of operatives in the Shadow Walkers are erased from all records and their profiles no longer exist in any record. They are truly Shadow Walkers, things of myth and legend.

Beliefs
"A Shadow Walker knows that once they accept a mission, that they are making a promise to complete that mission, any means necessary. No mission is to be unfinished, it is their way"
~Tactical Commander Mar'tel'Mar on Shadow Walkers

Shadow Walker's are known to be among the most determined and loyal of the Chiss Army, personally hand picked by Tactical Commander Martel, a man who values loyalty above all else. This loyalty to their leader and to the Chiss Ascendancy leads them to great heights and to follow any given order, no matter how suicidal it may be at the time. They ask no questions or even hint at back talking and they trust that what they are doing is right, no matter how wrong it may seem.

Their determination forces them to complete any mission given to them, no matter how hard it is or how high the odds are stacked against them, they will always try to beat the odds. This makes the Shadow Walkers one of the most determined and patriotic force in the Galaxy. In the end they trust in themselves, their commander, the Ascendancy, and each other.

There is only one thing that could even make a Shadow Walker even think about disobeying a direct order, and that thing is when a man is being left behind. The reason is that those in the Shadow Walkers share a bond of brotherhood, a bond greater than any other, even greater than the bond between a Chiss and their chosen family. It is this bond that could drive them to disobey any direct order that would require them to leave behind a fellow Shadow Walker. Even if that fellow member is dead, they will still go in and retrieve the body for a proper burial. They are willing to risk their own life for their fellow teammate, making them extremely more effective, especially when they are in immediate danger; this makes them a near unstoppable force.

Training
"I wished nothing more than Death at the end"
~Unknown Shadow Walker recruit

When Martel first formed the Shadow Walkers he needed people to fill up the squad, so he picked forty of the best men in the Chiss Army to join. Despite each chosen soldier having previous training, all of them had to go through another course of training. No stone was to be left un-turned and every recruit was order to go through a month of remediation to make sure they at least knew the basics. Then they were required to go through another month of trial to see if the recruit was good enough to be allowed into the Shadow Walker training course. Once the trial was successfully completed the recruit would then procede to Shadow Walker Training. Six months of burning Hell, tougher than any other course of training the Chiss had in which Martel was personally involved in.

The training covered things such as advanced marksmanship, stealth tactics, battle tactics, code decryption, bomb disarming and constructing, surviving interrogation and team tactics. It used live fire exercises and real life situations in order to condition the recruit to his/her pinnacle of mental and physical fitness, and to weed out the ones that could not handle the pressure and stress. Towards the end of training, the recruits were sent to Bunduki to learn from ex-folowers of Palawa the fighting style, Teräs Käsi, this further thinned the number of recruits. Eventually at the end of the training only four were left, making the squad Martel needed. Now with his squad at the ready, Martel sent each of them to specialized schools for further training in the area they were proficient in, finishing their training.
