True to her word, Indyana had showered quickly and dressed to meet the Council. Max had given his vote of confidence for her ascension to the rank of Master, so this meeting was two-fold. Not only to prove herself worthy of the trials, but to present them with the object that had given herself and Roland such heartache. She had dressed in demure brown robes befitting her current station, long hair braided and slapping damply against her back.

In her hands, something Dark nestled in a box. Even now it felt like a snake, coiled to strike if she opened the box. Regardless if it was what she thought it was, it was something influenced by the Dark Side.

Perhaps it would take all the Masters' help to cleanse it... if they even should. But she couldn't deny a part of her hoped that this find would finally open a path wide enough to bring others into the fold for searching for long-lost artifacts...

But now wasn't the time to get too far ahead of herself. Golden eyes scanned for Max, still holding the box.

Anytime now, they would be permitted in... and there would be no going back.

Max had let Indy get ready and pretty herself up for the council - Max himself had just made sure that the robes he was currently wearing weren't from several days ago and called it good. In his experience the council liked to have respect but they weren't the kind of asshats that you'd see in charge of places like Coruscant or wherever. They didn't care what you looked like or smelled like so long as you were still acting like a good Jedi.

Indy would have been fine without messing around but whatever.

It helped her confidence he supposed.

So he had waited for her at the entrance to the council chambers, humming a little tune that he'd caught on the holonet when he'd last been on Corellia. Some up and comer kid had started slinging out music left and right in a scattergun approach to marketing herself... or she really was just a scatterbrained teen who wanted to try out lots of different types of music.

Spotting her, he stopped and grinned a little bit.

"Ready?"
he checked before pulsing slightly in the Force, a signal to let the council know that they were both here now, "Shouldn't be long."

If they weren't busy... or if they weren't going to make them wait just to see how they'd react. Impatience wasn't a good look on a Jedi after all.

There was a strange familiarity to being back on Ajan Kloss, among the generations of Jed--young and old. It was something that he had missed dearly during his time training in the unknown regions of space. But, that time was over and it was time to stand among the Jedi once more, to continue the mission he had sought to do--and that was to end the darkness that faced this generation of heroes.

Among his fellow council members he sat, the warmth in the force radiated among them as they sat. There was only peace within this room, and that Oren knew well. The Jedi Councilor did not quite know the exact reasons for this meeting, he had been away for a while now--and there was much to catch up on; and there was no better day than today.

Despite, or perhaps because of, the chaos in the galaxy during these trying times, the Jedi Council seldom had Knights come before them for more than reports or updates on training and requests for the trials of knighthood. The Order was busier than it had been in recent years, the actions of the Sith and their vile attacks bringing out the best- and the worst, in some cases- of the Jedi. Pushed to extremes, many Jedi had gone off to fight in one way or another. It was thus with some pleasant surprise the Council received word that a Jedi Knight named Indyana Sati wanted to meet with them over an item she had found.

She was an archaeologist and a Jedi who had chosen a path away from the standard. She caused no trouble and rarely went off to fight, choosing instead to focus on seeking out knowledge of the past. A non-trivial number of the formerly lost artifacts and repositories of knowledge in the archives were there as a result of her hard work.

Certainly the Council could feel the old Darkness she carried with her as well. Some wondered what it could be that she found and was bringing before them, but it was likely best that she had. With little delay after Max's subtle signal the twin doors to the Council chambers slid smoothly open.

Sada-Nau Tin waved Master Tionson and Knight Sati inside, offering a warm smile from her seat on the side. Oota Boan gave a ponderous nod in greeting, while Lena Goordayr leaned forward to look at the box in the Knight's hands, considering it carefully. Tedimor Har was not present in person, a projected hologram in her seat, though she did watch the other Jedi straight-backed and impassively from her place. Along with Oren Zapan, they had all gathered to see what Dark thing Sati had dug up.

"Welcome Tionson, Sati," the Grandmaster intoned through his throat-mounted translator. "What matter have you brought before us?"

She wasn't nervous; in fact, if anything, there was a low-lying anticipation humming in her veins. Seeing Max there, she gave a warm smile, then nodded once, about to speak. But then the doors opened, and before them she saw the Council. One of whom she had seen before for a mission with the Sith Rowa; Jedi Master Oren. Giving him a nod, she smiled to Master Tin, then a bow to the entire Council, pausing for a moment to listen to Oota Boan's query.

"Council Masters," she greeted calmly. "As you no doubt have sensed, my return from Jedha brought an artifact of the distant past. I didn't find this object alone, however." Very briefly, an image of Roland's T-visor in the harsh desert light flickered to mind; she set the thought aside, setting the box down in the center of the room, and backing away. Almost immediately, the mildly nauseating effect of the Dark Side abated from her, and she could feel herself able to take a deeper breath. "It wasn't without some struggle; my partner and I, Ranger Rook, were assaulted and both injured, and lost a vehicle from environmental hazard. We found the ancient Jedi Temple there, and... I found this."

Without further preamble, she flicked her wrist, and the box carefully opened. Though at first seemingly innocuous at sight, it was the feeling it leached into the Force that felt, even now, like a raw, poisonous void in the Force. The hilt was blackened, not merely with age, and though it remained inert, it practically seemed to seethe with pure malice at the Light surrounding.
"If my research is correct... it's an ancient artifact, harking back millennia, to the very dawn of the first Jedi Order. The Fallen Blade."

Even saying it left prickles on the back of her neck, a queer feeling of watchfulness.

She had to force herself not to stare at its' alluring compulsion, to meet the stares of the Masters calmly.
"I was outside the Temple when I felt It. It lured me in... and when I touched it, even with gloved hands memories of one of its' owners reached me. Of a Force-user Purge, thousands of years ago... perhaps even the same purge that first emptied that temple." She allowed silence to linger for a moment, then exhaled quietly.

"Of course, as a Dark Artifact, it holds great risk to any future user who may find it... so instead of pursuing this singularly, I wished to bring this to the council, to propose either purifying it, or keeping it hidden within archives."

There was another matter as well, but for the time being this one was far more pressing. Even just keeping it in the box and in close proximity had given her nightmares, tormented visions of both future and past, and though she could withstand it for so long, it took its' toll on both her energy and inner will.

Such a thing to hold such hatred from the past was utterly staggering for the Knight. And yet, surrounded by the Light, by the Council and by Max, she felt buoyed by their confidence. Strength in numbers, indeed.

Ah Oren was back in town and sitting with the other members of the Council - good to see the old man where he belonged. Max smiled a little bit as he wandered on inside the chambers, catching the eye of each council member in turn before offering a shallow bow of his head to acknowledge them without doing any of that toadying he'd seen some get involved in. The Grandmaster asked what they had for them today and Max just smiled and stepped slightly to one side to let Indy speak first.

She was the one with the request after all and he was mostly just here for added support and for something he wanted to do afterward.

Ah the box was open.

The Dark Side seemed to burst forth from it's imagined containment like a cloud and he just smiled slightly at it. Here the Dark Side would find no weakness to exploit and no chance to dig into the minds of the vulnerable. In the Order alone it would have had a tough time but here beneath the sight of such powerful and respected Jedi? It might as well have been a child throwing a tantrum.

Her presentation done, Max gave the Council a second or two to adjust before taking half a step forward.

"I believe it can be purified - and not only that it may be purified but that it should be."
he presented his opinion to the Council without reservation, "Leaving such an artifact to wallow in the Darkness is not something we should endure. Instead I shall go with Knight Sati to purge the Dark Side from the tool, should this Council give it's blessing to the proceedings."

He eyed Indy from the side of his eye slightly. Max was going to wait until later but...

"It is my opinion that this be one part of Knight Sati's trial of Mastery."
he declared firmly before adding, with a small nod of his head again, "Though, of course, the final decision belongs to yourselves, Masters."

Oren watched as both Indy and Max made their way into the council chambers--how long had it been since he had seen his old friend? His eyes shifted to the respective master, offering a small dip of his head, though Oren said nothing at this time. Instead, he shifted his attention to the other members of the council as the Knight gave word on her findings.

An ancient blade, corrupted and fallen? He considered it for a moment as he studied the blade from a distance. "The first Jedi Order," he'd say with a pause, "I myself had recovered the Holocron of our Grand Master from this time, within it he documented the history of the first Jedi Civil war, the splitting of the Jedi and the creation of the early Sith."

He would look to each of his council members for a moment, before turning to the two of them with a perplexed looked, "All around the galaxy I've found ruins of our old order, the old Sith as well. It's interesting to think that we are facing the same challenges that they had fought all those distant eras. I know that the future Jedi will most likely face the same. This coming war will not be decided on the merits of war machines or droids. No, the battle wages forever because it reigns in the heart of all living things--the temptation to live for one's own self. This blade, is the first representation of this fact--the destruction and the death."

The Jedi Master would paus for another brief moment, "But, it can serve a new purpose, it can represent hope. You have my vote on the council, I believe it should be cleansed." Now it was time to see what the others would say.

The Masters of the Jedi Council listened to the abridged tale of the item's acquisition. They were silent throughout, although several expressions and subtle waves and flows of the Force passed between them as first Knight Sati spoke, unseen and unheard communication between these gathered Masters. Oren of course was included in this mystic note-passing that mostly consisted of silent reactions to certain bits of information, questions about past events and reports, and a general buzz of attention as the box was opened.

The Darkness attached to the Fallen Blade is a very old kind of shadow, pervasive and deeply rooted. A symbol of corruption and slaughter. Even at that moment it sought to compel those around to take up and wield it. But it was nothing before the collected Light of the Council and those who had brought it. It had no real power of its own. It was, after all, only a lightsaber.

The buzz started up again when Maxims Tionson spoke next, agreeing that it should be purified and suggesting it be one of the Knight's trials for Masterhood. She would not be the first to face the Dark past of a lightsaber wielded by a wicked being as proof of her connection to the Light, and almost certainly she would not be the last. But the Fallen Blade was a different beast altogether than the weapon of a Sith Lord. Doubtless it would be both difficult and dangerous. But what trials weren't?

As Master Zapan spoke his approval of the idea and ruminated on the nature of the conflicts at hand, the rest of the Council examined the Fallen Blade and silently discussed amongst themselves. By the time Oren was done, they had their opinions on the matter.

Tedimor Har leaned forward, holographic form flickering slightly in response. She spoke, voice distorted slightly through the speakers beside her chair. "A good trial. If you believe she can handle the task, Master Tionson, Knight Sati has my vote."

Lena Goordayr nodded in agreement from her chair, sharp eyes glimmering with a mixture of warmth and mild concern for a moment before she crossed her fingers together in her lap and spoke up. "Every Jedi must face the Dark at one point or another. Better a Dark thing like this with your friends at your side than alone, I think. I vote yes."

Sada-Nau Tin was silent for a few additional moments, expression pensive and kind. "Your determination and fortitude are clear, Indyana, to retrieve such a thing from where it lay. As well as wisdom and humility to bring it before us for our consideration. You have the best of intentions in handling this lightsaber, and so I vote yes. I look forward to hearing good news."

Oota Boan looked up from the blade after yet another few moments of silent consideration, long fingers briefly rubbing along the underside of his neck in thought. The translator came to life alongside the rumbling of his four throats, a serene but clearly artificial voice all the same. "The kyber crystal within suffers, and should be healed. Having unearthed this artifact, touched it and been touched in turn, I think there is little better way to resolve the Darkness inside it than you purifying it, Knight Sati. The Council has agreed to your proposal, and the outcome will be considered for a trial. May it bring you both some peace." The Grandmaster gave Indyana a knowing glance for a moment before turning to look over the two guests.

"May the Force be with you in your task, and on your journeys ahead. Is there anything else?"

Her heart lifted ever so slightly with each vote, each nod of confidence. Wise words were said from all, but the Grand Master's own knowing look held Indy's golden eyes for a little while longer. Staring up at the Ithorian Grand Master, she bowed once, eyes touching to each Master in turn. "Thank you, all. I will begin my trials immediately then."

She bowed once, deeply, to all of them... but then her gaze glanced up to Master Zapan. There seemed a question in her eyes, but she shook her head once.
"No questions, thank you. And thank you for your time... May the Force be with you."

Glancing back to Max, once more the box was closed, and scooped up.

She would head to a private meditation chamber... but she couldn't deny an edge of something to her step.

She had the feeling this artifact would take all of her personal strength to purify... and though she was reluctant to, it was a wound in the Force, and for far too long it had suffered in the Dark Side.

So she would do her best to heal it... with help from Master Tionson.

However, later, there was something she hoped to ask of Master Zapan. But later, she was sure the Council had more to discuss than matters of the heart.

Honestly, Max hadn't had too many dealings with the Council in his time as a Jedi Knight and, surprisingly, had even fewer during his time as a Jedi Master. In this day and age, the Order allowed it's membership more freedom of direction and freedom from direct oversight than the past iterations. Considering some of the things he got up to, he was happy that they allowed those freedoms and he was glad that they had seen the same signs in Indy that he had.

Of course he'd never doubted that Oren would see the same things he saw - the old man had the same eye for talent that Max himself had... which was definitely a joke he would be using aloud in the future when he was with Oren again.

Too good not to.

He bowed to the Council.

"That you for your consideration and wise counsel, Masters."
he intoned with respect, "May the Force be with you."

Exiting the room alongside Indy, Max would wait until the doors were close before raising a hand up to her with the palm facing her. After a second he would speak up.

"Come on - don't leave me hanging. That went well, right? No? Not even a little bit excited about becoming a Jedi Master?"

He was teasing her but only to pull her back. Through the Force he could sense the way her mind had wandered, drifted, to darker places and he wanted to make sure she didn't dwell in those kinds of thoughts for long.

She chuckled at Max's words, but already golden eyes seemed distant, focusing within. She didn't feel different. Rather, she felt more dissonant with the rest of the order here. Never more did she feel now like the outsider. The person who never fit the expectation of a Master. Then again... there was Hannibal. There was Max. If she succeeded...

No. Not if.

When.

Glancing over at Max, a smile pulled at her lips.
"Went better than I expected," she quipped back, the smile turning to a smirk. "But only by your recommendation, old man. I won't deny this won't be easy..." She sighed, tugging her braid with her free hand. "However. You have faith in me... that's enough. More than I could ask. Thank you."

As they drew closer to one of the chambers, she squared her shoulders, golden eyes calm.

It was time to begin.
