INTELLIGENCE BRIEF
TO: [email protected]
FROM: )¤#(%)##)==#¤=#?=@

SUBJECT: THE KRAYT LORD

The wanted warlord known as the Krayt Lord has been spotted by a verified and trusted confidential informant leaving the streets of Mos Eisley. The subject left with a handful of mercenaries on sand speeders, veering north, into the Dune Sea. The subject being wanted for war crimes and with a considerable bounty on his head, it was thought prudent to inform the Sector Rangers.

A second CI, located on Nar Shaddaa, has independently informed us that the Krayt Lord, who has bought weapons in bulk from Nar Shaddaa crime lord Veritas Farr, has made himself an enemy of Farr by defaulting on his payments. Though Farr is unaware of the fact, the Krayt Lord has in his possession several thick dossiers with compromising material regarding Far's organization, information that would be valuable to the Sector Rangers.

Addendum: Several reports indicate that a Mandalorian mercenary has been paid by Farr to track down and eliminate the Krayt Lord as a warning to others who are considering defaulting on their debts to Farr's syndicate. No confirmation was readily available that any Mandalorian has landed on Mos Eisely.

I hope this information has been of help to your cause.

Yours as always,
X

Hello,

I've got a certain plot arc planned for my character, Tesla Cadera, which in time will involve him mellowing (just a hair) and joining the Sector Rangers. Right now he works in the underworld and does various dirty work for various crime syndicates.

I want to do a first thread where he first comes into contact with some Sector Rangers, though. I'm thinking him versus three or four of them. They wouldn't per se be fighting each other, but rather compete with each other (which will no doubt lead to them fighting each other, though I don't want any kills ofc) over a bounty.

Tesla has been hired to kill a certain former warlord, who has betrayed a Nar Shaddaa crime lord. The war lord has some rather sensitive data on the crime lord's organization, which the Sector Rangers want their hands on. They also want to capture the war lord to have him pay for his own, plentiful, crimes (war crimes if there was such a term in the Star Wars verse). They want him alive, and Tesla has been tasked with killing him.

I'm okay with him surviving, but also with Tesla doing his very best to kill him (a may the best side win kind of thing). A tiny saving grace that may let everyone walk away whistling (except for the bounty) is that the crime lord does not know that the bounty has this information on him, and as such has not paid Tesla to retrieve it, only to kill the bounty. So in theory it could work out to the bounty being dead and the Sector Rangers walking away with the intelligence, if we were so inclined.

So.....anyone interested? :O

I think we could get a few interested. Would this fall under a character plot and do you feel like your character could take on dual threats like 3-4 Rangers and this Warlord’s goons?

Also, forgive me if I don’t recall from the lore, but what war did this fellow commit war crimes in?

It wouldn't really be a plot, just a fairly relaxed thread for a first contact between Sector Rangers and my mando.

I figure between the rangers and my Mando, the goons will be fairly easily disposed of. The real party will be when they want to apprehend the warlord and my character wants to fry him. I'm not planning on it going one way or the other. Whichever happens happens. XD

Regarding his war crimes I'm using the term a bit loosely. He and his goons are carrying out a campaign of genocide on the Tusken Riders of the Dune Sea, basically indiscriminately killing men, women and children in an effort to wipe them out completely.

“ Tesla has been hired to kill a certain former warlord.”

I guess you can make a former criminal becoming a cop of some sort work, but isn’t an criminal assassin becoming a cop a little bit of a stretch?

Depends, I suppose. In this case, the target is a d-bag anyway, so how would my mando be different than a member of the Bounty Hunter's Guild morally speaking? He's not exactly out there assassinating innocent civilians.

He's not really an assassin though, just a merc hired to get rid of a genocidal maniac. (We don't talk about the fact that the man who hired him is equally bad).

Bounty hunters are looked down on by cops as well, and they don’t go out to kill people. An assassin still seems a whole other level to me. Might wanna run it by a plot or character mod.

"Do bounty hunters kill for money? Yes, but not indiscriminately, and not merely for personal gain."

"Government bounties: Bounties handed down by galactic, regional, or local governments. These usually involve hunting down criminals that governmental law enforcement cannot dedicate resources towards capturing and/or executing."

Bounty Hunters' Guild.

So what I think is, it depends on who the target is. In this case a war criminal. And my character is essentially a bounty hunter, not an assassin. The transition from bounty hunter to a ranger is less of a leap than from being an assassin.

All that is still doing the governments job, they don’t have the resources so they put out bounties for bounty hunters to do it for them. This guy is still hired by a warlord, and you said in your OP that he’s in the underworld and doing jobs for the syndicate. That makes him an assassin and a criminal, not a bounty hunter in the sense the guild write up talks about. Either way, this seems like it might fall under character plot territory so the plot mods will probably sort things out if there are issues.

I think it comes down to how sketchy the goverment in question is, I can tell you from fairly recent history governments will overlook someones working past is they are seen as a valuable asset. Of course, this comes down to how you plan on this character showing he is legitament, and will probably have to prove himself; even then he'll probably have a chip on his shoulder for a fair bit of his service time.

I'd point out the fact that Boba Fett worked for crime lords, yet was described as a bounty hunter, not an assassin.

My character will not be hurting innocent people, and this kill mission is probably a one off, most being "capture" bounties. But yeah, he works for the underworld.

I'm also planning for him to help the Sector Rangers in the future before joining, first begrudgingly, then willingly, and as he gradually redeems himself, ultimately out of idealism.

Well, I think if we can hammer out the rough edges of the overall idea of the thread, I think it has merit. I'd sign up.

I gave the rundown to @Painus and was told it doesn't need to be a plot, so we should be good.
