Abandoned Building

At the infirmary, Ruz would draw his lightsaber, activate it, and bring it down on the lock only for the lock to still be firmly in place without a scratch on it. They would all look in surprise for a moment at the lock before the lock popped open, sliding free of the chain and allowing the door to slide slightly further open.

They would be able to make their way inside and the Doctor was promptly ignoring Lorcan and scurrying with his wheelchair-bound patient out the back door.

Numerous beds lined the room with a small medication cabinet that had been broken opne next to a pair of doors that were both closed. At the far side of the room was the other exit, and on three of the stretchers lay bodies of two dead and one very, very sedated patient.

---

In the chapel, the priest wasn't taking the words of the man very well, though the words of the woman seemed to have been slightly better received.

My time is not yet come. I must still lead others to the truth before I pass through the purifying fire, he said.

As Charlotte asked him where to find the flames, he turned behind him, pulling back a curtain below the stained glass window. A door had been concealed there, and he opened it. The inside was not dark like the rest of the building, but visibility was almost entirely obscured by an orange mist, and it would quickly become apparent why it was called "the fire."

Only through the fire can you find salvation, he said. He didn’t force them, and simply stepped aside before beginning to return to his little attic space.

CRUMBLING RUINS
THE ALTAR

Without the many insects seeking to devour their flesh, the entry chamber was suddenly very quiet. No more screams, fluttering legs, or hard legs clattering against the ground. Just the fire where Gamall once sat and the gentle sounds of water behind the altar. As if a blanket had been thrown haphazardly over the situation, all the prior sounds had gone quiet. Even most conversation had stopped, save for a little back and forth between few who'd lost their names.

Smoking bugs coated the floor, crunching beneath boots and shoes as people moved around. The hanging skins had ceased their mocking laughter, rusted blade clanging to the ground with flecks of flesh clinging to the hilt. As suddenly as chaos erupted it stopped, leaving them all in strange silence.

Those without proper coverings were left with itching insect bites and a sense of dread, now well aware something had been taken from them. The Mandalorian's cultural identity and drive, the mask of personality the harlequin Sith wore. A sense of purpose and accomplishment from the archaeologist. A man with a burned hand lost what kept his secrets inside. Ryun couldn't quite remember that truly separated herself from the other members of her family, things that made her better and stronger than the rest.

It was quiet, but the altar called in its own way. Here the symbols were safe from wind and rain, carved into stone and illuminated by lit torches that defied all standard logic. As Ripley touched the altar the half-melted candle atop flickered to lofe.

Its flame was bright green, casting the room and all inside in its sickly light. There was no door in the ritual room aside from where Gamall had been, but there was something else to be seen. Tiny ripples in the water behind the altar, the liquid illuminated as if from below. Still water didn't move like that, but who among them would notice this subtle change?

Ripley and Drak would find the glyphs especially fascinating. They were a sense of purpose, something they could chase after to determine exactly why they were here. Why they and the rest exist at all. [/cbox3]

HUMBLE TOWN
Another damned part of this town that was completely unrecognizable, yet all of a sudden... Power. The dark side. The fear, anger, hatred...it has come back to me.
The being took a step forward as the ground simultaneously began pulsing, It had no idea what to do; it just wanted to get closer to the pyre, to the dark side, to safety. Whatever this place was...it was no longer distasteful, but inviting. Or had it always been that way?

In the same way that the hooded figures would ignore Eri's body, the creature inside Eri's body would do the same. The hooded figures did not matter to it; the dark side was all there was and all there ever would be. Its power put it almost in a trance as Eri's foot moved yet another step.

Yes...
Pure evil found a home within pure evil, matching, even outperforming the inner hatred. It just wanted to join the circle, to call upon the dark side, to rest in its chaos for eternity.

Humble Town

Well the Sith didn't seem too happy about working together but, oddly enough, that convinced Crix that they were being genuine about wanting to co-operate as much as they did. If the Sith had been happy about it, Crix would have been suspicious immediately. Strange that a natural aversion to trusting one another made him actually more inclined to trust the Sith on a temporary basis.

"Until we get a chance to flip the table."
he agreed, "Then we flip the table, fuck their game and stab our way out of here if we have to."

Crix didn't like being here - it was putting him on edge and it was beginning to show in his words and actions. It was going to take a lot of time for him to calm down and cool down from this whole thing. So much meditation was going to be required for this... plus some therapy.

Chanting and smoke on the wind were bad signs on their own but together they were nothing good. As the two Force Users stepped through the fog it clung to them like a wall until they stepped far enough - and suddenly they could see.

And Crix really wished he hadn't.

"Fantastic."
he muttered, his left hand shaking slightly as he tried to take in their surroundings better, seeing if he could see the people who had been chanting, "Recognize any of the writing? It looks like something a Sith would study."

Certainly wasn't binary so his studies weren't useful here.

HUMBLE TOWN.

Trini blinked and looked around apprehensively as she and the others were ushered into the manor. The Amaran's nose twitched as she sniffed the cool, damp air inside; her apprehension redoubled as she walked across the moldering carpet.

"Hey, maybe we should-"

The door abruptly snapped shut behind them, and Trini whirled.

"What the kriff?!"

She whirled back to the group, jogging to keep up as Allery led them deeper into the house. She looked around fearfully, her tail fully frizzed out behind her.

"What-... what do you mean, things creep in the dark? What do you mean the paths change?!"

She jogged up to Allery, reaching up to put a hand on her shoulder.

"What kind of a place is this?!"

Ashla was more than a little suspicious of the woman when she suddenly went from requesting them to not go in to willingly leading them into the manor. But she remembered the voice and said nothing, following quietly as they entered the manor. The door slamming shut behind them was just adding to her slow realization that she was very much in a horror movie. She just hoped that if it had to end badly for anyone it wasn't her.

"You said people who go in don't come out," she asked Allery as she lead the way, ignoring the desire to walk down on of the side corridors to explore, despite what she had experienced earlier, and her own desire to learn more, she did feel enough fear and discomfort to not want to split up, "how did you get out earlier? What changed?"

@Logan

As @Crix Aran observed the ritual that was unfolding, whatever it was, he would feel the taint of the darkside slowly but deliberately spreading from the central pyre. The chanting would grow more ominous, fluctuating in pitch from high to low. The glowing of the runes seemed to pulsate in tandem to the changes from the chanters, going from nearly invisible to brilliantly bright along as the voices moved up and down.

Should the Jedi Knight dare to inch closer than he was, his eyes would fall upon someone he recognized, or so he would think. A white skinned Twi'lek that had been with their group earlier, though something would seem incredibly.. off about her, her aura in the force was hazy and unfocused. He would notice that the hooded figures seemed not to notice her. Would they notice him?

@Erialex would be able to sense that something was amiss near the pyre, though she wouldn't be quite sure about what it was. It was almost like the darkside was unable to crescendo, edging ever-so close but never quite getting there. Like the ritual was missing something pivotal to its completion and the chanting figures were just maintaining the gauge in wait for its arrival.

The scent of a Jedi would hit Erialex's nose and without warning, she would hear the same distorted, other-mother voice she had heard shortly after her arrival on this planet.

The pyre needs a soul, It said, giggling in amusement. Yours is not enough - too dirty, too broken to fuel the ritual. We need the girl, the one with your other friends in the manor. Silence would return to Erialex's mind before being broken by one final whisper. Find the horned Jedi and his companion, if you can. They may be foolish enough to help you.

What seemed like some sort of portal would open near Erialex, impossibly black and shimmering. Crix would also be able to see it, but something in the back of his mind would tell him that only danger, only death lay on the other side. And yet... perhaps too did his destiny.

---

Allery seemed to purposefully ignore @Trini Halrixien's questions, that was until the little Amaran reached out to grab her by the shoulder. The girl whipped around and something shimmered across her features; something vicious, and animalistic like a cat hissing a warning before slicing you open with unseen claws.

Things that only exist in nightmares live here, Trini. Allery said, her voice even but still vaguely flavored with a bit of nervousness and fear. And like in your dreams or your nightmares, the paths to the end are visible and hidden, there and not there. You... you cannot trust your eyes or your ears here. Only your gut, and even then you might still be wrong.

Eventually, the trio would reach a decision point. They had the option of two paths: One up a spiral staircase, one down a set of long and worn stone steps. Looking at @Ashla Ti, Allery shrugged her shoulders in response to the question the Togruta had asked a little bit ago.

The only way out of here is to die, Allery said, her viper-like eyes betraying the forced tone of worry she put in her voice. Though, somehow, Ashla knew Allery wasn't lying - but maybe telling only three quarters of the truth. I'm not sure how, but I have died here many times. I just always seem to come back.. and wake up outside in the fog.

Allery would look from Ashla to Trini, doing her best not to smirk. Your choice, Ashla. She said, eyes darting between the options. You might find answers to your questions upstairs.. but you might not. Down, well, might take you to places you want to go, but there is always a price for getting what you want.

Allery wouldn't move from her spot, only follow Trini and Ashla with whatever they picked.

Trini stepped back quickly from Allery as she whirled. The Amaran initially looked panicked as the strange entity before her described their situation, but as Allery spoke, a change came over Trini's features.

"The only way out of here is to die? What kind of an answer is that?!"

The Amaran straightened. The fear that had been etched on her features a moment ago had been transmuted to anger.

"I'm kriffing Trini Halrixien! I've survived death squads, bombs, nekfights, lightfights, Sith lightning, killer droids and the living dead! Some rotten mansion on a planet I've never heard of isn't gonna get me!"

She turned to the Togruta.

"But... we should stick together. Which direction do you want to go?"

Ashla was following Allery's words to Trini, her head titling in curiosity at what she thought she saw on the woman's features when the Amaran had turned her around. She would have been screaming if not for the Amaran taking the lead on speaking up and voicing everything that the Togruta was also feeling. So she hid her worries as best as she could and listened in silence as Trini let anger take hold. That, that helped. Ashla found comfort in that, fear is just as potent a gateway to the Dark Side as anger, but in situations like this anger was better. It helped when the hand that was feeding you was not the same hand that you needed to fight against. The Amaran's anger and boasting helped Ashla push down on the fear, and the act of indifference that she was trying to put up felt a little less like an act.

"Yes," she replied, her eyes on their not-so-innocent seeming guide, "we stick together." She pulled her gaze from Allery and turned to Trini, giving her a brief smile and a nod. "We stick together. This way."

With that she started walking, and headed for the steps leading upstairs. She had no idea where she wanted to go, not now, not in the grand scheme of things, but answers... Answers meant knowledge, and knowledge was strength. Or at least all those overly-dramatic Sith texts she had been reading seemed to think so.

Drak did turn his head towards the white haired woman after she called him "Mandalorian"...Even if at the moment he couldn't really recall what being a Mandalorian meant, it was a way to address him that he still recalled...One that somewhat comforted him as a result, his irregular breathing calming down as he looked at the red hot sword...and then back at Lae's destroyed hands "...I can try."

However, before walking back towards that sword, the Mandalorian took a last look at the glyphs...and then at the water, turning his head towards the rest, the man pointed at the water behind the altar "These waters are rippling...It's almost as if there's water flow in there, it may be worth investigating."

And after pointing that out, Drak approached the sword that charred the flesh of the man with an accent, letting out a sigh before getting his hand close to it very carefully...He was wearing beskar and a thermal undersuit, so dealing with high temperatures should not be a problem for him, that being said, he would, just in case, slowly move the hand towards the sword, only touching it if the hotness of it wasn't harmful and putting his hand away otherwise.

If he came to the conclusion that the weapon would not burn him, he would indeed grab it with both hands and try to put it back in place before quickly taking his hands from it, noticing that the sword was pretty heavy...But it wasn't the unnatural weight what bothered him.

Great so the Doctor was worried they might end up being either illusions or angry inmates or a mixture of both. Though why a Jedi seemed so intent on seeming so skeptical about the Doctor’s fears seemed kind of… strange to put it lightly. Lorcan eyed the young Padawan who had answered his question and just stared at him for a moment before speaking.

“You force-types make illusions all the time – we sure this ain’t some kind of home for forcies even more deranged than usual?”

The Doctor wasn’t in the mood for answering any of their questions and was up and away before Lorcan could think to really stop him. Running a hand through his hair, Lorcan eyed the dead bodies of the former patients and the one sedated patient. He wanted to leave the group again already but he resisted the temptation.

“I’m gonna check on the vegetable.”
He informed the group as a whole as he moved over to the sedated patient, looking for any kind of chart or signs of what was physically wrong with the patient, “Someone check on the other two.”

He thought they looked pretty dead but he caught the eye of the other two Rangers. Well, they were Rangers but he still counted, in his own mind, when he wanted to.

“AMS levels of fucking paranoia people! Those two look dead – someone make sure they’re all the way dead, don’t all just go rushing after the doctor with your cocks in your hands!”

Honestly, Lorcan doubted anyone would actually listen to him. He tried to be more of a team player and come down and help them and already he was regretting it.

Why did the Sith go to the sedated patient? He called them a vegetable. A freaking vegetable. And now they are left with the two deceased patients. And it's not like he wanted a truce?!

That actually stung. He refused her truce. Just like that. Didn't even care about it. And now he's commanding them around.

Regardless, Clove was somewhat wise enough to know she couldn't convince him to step away from the 'vegetable', so she reluctantly made her way to the two stretchers containing the deceased patients. She'd never seen an actual cadaver before, only pictures of them in medical books and whatever her father had taught her, but someday had to be her first. Today would be that day. Simply don't think about it and do it.

"Can anybody cover me? I'll check the ... dead people. See if they are actually dead, and hopefully figure out how they died."

The half-Sephi disliked being fully reliant on the people who—hopefully—decided to cover for her, in case the patients turned out to be alive. But she knew she wouldn't be able to defend herself once she was poking in their skins.

"For anybody who wants to help, I have gloves in my bag. Don't touch the bodies without protection, who knows what might linger in their bodies."

Clove slung her leather bag off her shoulder and slid it onto a trolly near the bodies. Afterward she dug into it, slid a pair of gloves over her pale hands, and leaned over the patient on the left, looking for signs of life. The first obvious signs were a rising chest and exhalation from their mouth or nose. Followed by feeling their pulse. If none were present, she carefully began to examine the patient's skin, eyes, and—as much as she despised doing so—mouth in the hopes of determining what had killed them.

Cautious steps took Sah’ra into the altar room and yet with each placement of foot to dirt, more and more continued to dissolve from her mind. Not only her name, as well as that of those around her, but now parts of her past seemed impossible to recall. She could vaguely remember a years-long expedition on a jungle world… but for what? Why had she gone there? Had she found what she spent so long searching for? What about her father? Her brother? Were they well? She discovered that the thoughts of her father spurred a bitter taste of disdain… but she could not recollect a reason as to why. Every second she spent here, every memory she knew that existed but could not pinpoint, accelerated her loathing of this damnable ruin.

Inside, she and the others soon found the altar that the demonic old hag had stood guard over. The atmosphere had seemed to change in such a way that the Sith woman began to wonder if they were walking into yet another trap. The silence that followed the shrill sounds of dying bugs was entirely too suspicious but it was hardly something she could ponder. Her head still ringing from the after-effects of attempting to draw her weapon, the quietness of their surroundings had forced her to focus solely on her discomfort but she began to force the pain to the back of her mind. She could not allow it to distract her, lest they encounter yet another unexpected fork in their road.

As she slowly made her way around the altar, observing the flickering green flame of the candle with intrigue, the voice of the Mandalorian interrupted her observation as he moved to replace the rusted blade in the fire.

“These waters are rippling… It’s almost as if there’s water flow in there. It may be worth investigating,”

Glancing back over her shoulder, Sah’ra saw the pool that he had mentioned… and he was right. Gentle ripples broke the surface, slowly moving outwards until dissipating against the edges of the chamber floor. Oddly enough, it seemed as if there was a glowing light coming from deep within… It almost seemed as though there may be a tunnel of sorts below; after all, the water had to be coming from somewhere. Careful to not tread too close, Sah’ra squinted as she peered below the surface as she attempted to locate the source of light.

"He's right... There's something down here..."

Crumbling Ruin: The Altar
~~~
"Thank you," she replied once the Mandalorian had agreed to try.
Ripley watched with bated breath as the Mandalorian moved toward the ancient sword and attempted to return it to its proper place at the center of the shrine. Would it trigger some hidden mechanism or spur some form of ancient magic? Would it do nothing at all? It was anyone's guess. This dark and twisted chamber felt as if it lived and breathed a life of its own. As Gamall had already shown the group, anything was possible here.
As the Arkanian traced her fingers along the symbols etched into the side of the altar, the candle atop the altar flickered to life. Its flame was a bright green, but its light did little to provide comfort. In fact, it had quite the opposite effect. She traced her fingers along the same symbols a second time, watching the flame to see if it would do anything else.
The room seemed to be full of discovery, as both the Mandalorian and the other woman in the group noticed trickling water behind the altar. Ripley watched the moving water and listened to its gentle trickle, like the percolating of a cup of fresh caf first thing in the morning.
The historian sighed quietly to herself, scratching at some of the bite marks beneath her pants. She could really have gone for a cup of caf right about then, but the chances of a caf shop around here were pretty low... to put it mildly.
"Can you see what it is?" she asked the woman, rising to her feet and dusting her hands off. She took a few steps forward, prepared to wade or jump into the water if need be. They had to do something to get out of here.
Charlotte chewed her lip. A nasty little habit from childhood that came to play in her worst moments. Her partner had been wise to seek more information, but the priest had not come to play. Instead, the mystery deepened. The creepy man stepped aside to reveal a hidden door and the horrors beyond. Odd orange mist covered the doorway…their sight completely obscured. What would happen if they walked through?
She was tempted to pull out her saber and cut the priest in half. Charlotte’s self-preservation instinct was all that stopped her. That fucking priest seemed to have some control over this place. It felt unwise to kill him. Her lightsaber hilt snapped into her hand. She turned towards the probably Jedi.
“Look…if I have to use this, you’re not gonna like the color. We can try and kill each other later but I’d like to get out of here first.” Charlotte looked at the priest. “Salvation it is asshole but I swear on all that is holy, I’ll string you up if that tries to kill us.” Her words rang loudly in the chapel carrying a confidence Charlotte did not feel. In truth, she was terrified. She took a deep breath, wrapped the Force closer around her, gripped her saber, and marched forward. Charlotte would enter the mist and pray the Jedi followed.
While he followed the Mandalorian, Senin still felt how the mask on his face seemed to be making his face tingle. Constantly he would bring his hands to scratch the skin around it and would feel tempted to remove it from his face. Even knowing that for some reason the mask was important, the Acolyte didn't know how long he would resist not removing it.
As if the resulting nuisance of the mask wasn't enough, now he also had to deal with the bites of the bugs. He would control himself to not scratch it, afraid that doing so would leave marks on his skin. The Acolyte only hoped that these creatures weren't venomous.
His musings were interrupted by the Mandalorian saying that they should investigate why the water was rippling behind the altar. Hopefully it was an underwater passage, Senin would not mind getting drenched if it would mean that he will escape from this cursed place.
When he approached the altar to see the water, Senin noticed a trap door switch built into the wall of the room. The Acolyte smiled behind his mask, it could be their ticket to escape from there. "Look! There is a switch into the wall over there!" he pointed to where it was. Then he walked toward it and touched the switch with his hand, before turning to the others "Do you think that we should use it? This can open an exit from this place."
Alright, so he didn't actually try his best into goading the churchman into providing a comprehensive guide for understanding this not-really-an-abandoned-building shit he and his fellow Padawans and the rest of the peeps found themselves in. Maybe he should've been more abrasive? Annoying? Antagonizing? Maybe he should've channeled the old Arctus, the cheeky, lying, arrogant bastard?
Watching the priest just... leave as if nothing happened was kind of anticlimactic, if the former smuggler would be honest. Arctus followed the man with his gaze, brows rising as the latter disappeared into an attic.
That's– That's not creepy at all.
Despite the unease he still felt the Padawan tried his best to remember what Holy Joe had told him and Charlie, recited the verses in his head. Arctus turned to face Charlie, hands rising at chest level as if in surrender when she talked about her saber, killing, and stringing up the madman if whatever was beyond the newly revealed mystery door tried to kill the two. Truth be told the Sith terrify Arctus, but with the circumstances before them he knew he had to just suck it up and work with her. It's not as if he had much of a choice, and who knew if going through the door with her would give him an insight as to why Sith acted the way they did.
He had more than an inkling given he was touched by the Dark Side, but even Arctus knew that it wouldn't be enough to paint a picture with regards to her Order... Empire, whatever.
"Right now I honestly don't care if your lightsaber turns out to be black," he told her, voice genuine. "And duking it out with you or your Sith buddy is far from my priorities. I just want to get my friends out of here."
Even so, Arctus would still be on high alert if they did find a way out of this godsdamned place. Going through the door and the orange mist yonder went all logic that screamed at him to just walk out of the chapel, but what if pushing forward gave Clove, Felix, and Ruzaan a way out of here?
Throwing all caution to the wind, the former smuggler squared his shoulders and armed himself with both his blaster pistols.
"Alright, Friers – here goes everything."
Arctus stepped forward and followed Charlie, past the threshold and into the mist.
Much to Ruzaan's surprise, the lock popped open when his lightsaber touched it instead of being cut into pieces like he'd expected. Briefly, his mind flashed back to when he'd somehow opened the locked doors leading to the stairs; had he gained a new Force power since landing here? Ruzaan promptly forgot about the Doctor as he scanned the room for doors. The Togruta quickly spotted the double doors near the broken medicine cabinet. Maybe they were locked?
Alas, his test would have to wait as Clove requested backup as she inspected the (presumably) dead bodies. Ruzaan wasn't too enthused to get close to the cadavers, but for Clove's sake he followed her over; senses on alert for danger and lightsaber hilt in hand.
If Clove's inspection went without issue, Ruzaan would then wander over towards the double doors and test his strange new luck, attempting to open them.
Livi had never seen a saber before. The sight of it made her jump back a bit and she promptly pointed her gun at the togruta, highly alarmed. She watched with wide eyes as the blade hummed and cut against the lock...only to do nothing. Livi lowered her gun at that. Was this a toy he was carrying? She was distracted by the lock opening at last, and she followed the others in. She listened to Birdshit’s commentary, face scrunching up in confusion about ‘force types’ making ‘illusions’. It was as if he were speaking a different language. The girl and the togruta didn’t appear phased, and Livi couldn’t help but wonder what she was missing.
While the others talked, she hardly listened. With her gun drawn, she charged directly after the doctor, finding him incredibly suspicious. She switched her blaster to stun, “Stop!” She called out before glancing briefly over at the other Ranger to show him that she was actually following protocol. If the doctor kept running, she would fire a bolt into his back.
Abandoned Building
Darius couldn’t help but furrow his brows when the lock wasn’t cut into pieces by the Togruta’s lightsaber, instead mysteriously popping open a few seconds later. It was all exceptionally suspicious, and it only served to fuel the Lokkian’s primal instincts to get the hell out of dodge at the first opportunity.
Alongside the rest of the group, Darius very hesitantly stepped into the room – keeping a hand resting over the top of his blaster pistol. He was half-expecting one of the seemingly-dead patients to spring to life, and sure-as-hell wasn’t about to go poking around with Clove and Lorcan.
Instead, Darius focused his attention on the sketchy doctor and Livi. When the woman turned around to look at him, the Lokkian couldn’t help but raise a brow, confusion clear on his expression. It took him a solid few second to remember that he was, in fact, a Ranger and that there were some protocols that he ought to be following.
Oh. Right.
With an audible groan, Darius yanked the blaster pistol from his holster and followed after Livi, darting down the hallway after the creepy doctor and his patients. Because there was no way this could go poorly. Right?
Crumbling Ruin
The Altar
The sudden flicker of the candle caught Laeonas off-guard. Tensing up, he was ready for another horror to appear as that odd green flooded the room. Yet there was no new attack, and the man's muscles relaxed as best they could. It was easy for him to ignore the pain that radiated from the areas surrounding the main burn. Even as he trembled, he was able to try and pick up on anything of relevance once again.
The altar room was... different from the one that now contained Gamall's ruined corpse. While the primitive stone architectural style remained, the ceilings were higher, and the very layout of the room had shifted. There were also no bags of rotting flesh, no hooks from which to hang skins. Overall it definitely made him feel a lot less uncomfortable, though his desire to leave this place didn't dissipate in the slightest. On the contrary, the lack of a clear exit only intensified his want to escape.
It was a feeling that prompted others, and with the others came pain. Had Kamelle Skyler so desperately feared for her life in the end? Were he to fall and need help, would any of them even bother? The albino had been hostile towards him, the woman who'd set the bugs alike seemed to be aligning with her. The mandalorian was entirely apathetic to him. The only one who'd seemed even a little friendly was the man in the mask-- who'd revealed that he was carrying a Sith lightsaber. The likelihood of the man bothering to save him based off that alone was probably zero.
He had to push his guilt and his fear to the back of his mind though. The building was much larger by the looks of the exterior than the two rooms that they'd been through so far. Looking along the walls, he spotted no seams that could reveal a hidden door of sorts. It
could be there, but in such a state, such subtleties would go over the head of a man who'd spent most his life in durasteel tenements. What he was able to notice was the odd glow of the water, and almost immediately after, it's movements.
He'd been about to raise his voice when the mandalorian spoke up. The two women would quickly gain interest, and all but the one in the mask approached the water. It took a few more seconds for the man with the raven hair to finally speak up.
"...Ai didn't see any bodies of water on tha way 'ere..." He'd mutter, the words coming out much softer than he intended. "If... if any of ya did, th'at's good... could lead there, but we can't know fer sure. 'Sides, Ai don't think th'at.... th'at thing in tha other room did what it did fer no reason." He'd finish.
The implications of his words were clear cut and simple. Everything they did from here on out had to be taken with extreme precautions. For all they knew, the water they were staring at right now might not even be water, but instead a pool of tar that was being supernaturally projected as water. The glowing light might just lead them into an underwater cave, where they'd find Gamall returned to her grotesque glory to finally finish them off. All of these were paranoia driven fantasies, but they were also quite reasonable fears after experiencing everything that they'd just witnessed.
It was when the man in the mask quipped about a door that Laeonas would feel his mood shift. Turning around, he'd quickly approach the man, a look of bewilderment on his face.
"Ya sure?!" He'd exclaim, the soft tone he'd had mere moments ago quashed. He took a look at the seemingly innocuous featurette on the wall, and he'd stare. He hadn't even made note of that; how had he missed it? "Whaddya wai-" He'd begin, before abruptly stopping.
He was getting to eager. There was no telling what was behind this door either. "...kriff, what now..." He'd mutter, chewing on his lip. Looking over at the altar, he'd watch as the mandalorian attempted to place the rusty blade that had ruined his right hand palm. He'd see the man in the mask touching the switch. They didn't know what could happen; they'd gotten into this mess by blindly and foolishly telling the old woman what they'd wanted, and rushing into another space without thinking. Were they about to do this again? What horrors would fall on them next?
Laeonas could only hold his breathe, and prepare.
Humble Town
Well the Dark Side was definitely actively in use here – because it felt like it was trying to rise up and grab him by the throat. If the presence of the Dark Side got much stronger he was sure that he would be able to physically see it and that… hell, looking toward the raging flames of the pyre he wasn’t actually sure if he wasn’t already seeing it in a physical form.
From what he could see, there were runes around the pyre itself and they were glowing ominously. Usually runes wrapping around something was usually a sign that they were connected to the ritual with but Crix didn’t want to mess with them. As far as he knew there was a fifty fifty chance that they were either feeding the ritual or keeping it contained.
Knowing his luck, carving through some runes with his lightsaber might be what caused the entire thing to go wildly out of what limited control these cultists actually held over the whole thing. He gritted his teeth, casting his gaze around until he spotted a very pale sentient standing in front of a writhing mass of black thoughts and regrets.
Well, it looked like a portal really.
But Crix wasn’t going to call it a portal when it all-but screamed at him how tainted and broken it all was. It stank to the high heavens of the Dark Side, death and bad decisions. In his time as a Jedi, however, Crix had come to realize that what was expected of him, what was required of him as a Knight; it was to throw himself into these things.
To throw himself at sources of death and regret and hatred so that other people didn’t need to suffer through them. He let out a small sigh.
“I’m going to do something stupid.”
He warned his Sith companion, “Think you can tell if the runes are restrictions or boosters or something? Wreck them if they’re not for safety or something.”
He would do whatever he wanted in the end, of course, because Crix wasn’t his supervisor or whatever. Taking a deep breath, Crix gripped his lightsaber in his right hand before sprinting forward, past the pyre and it’s cultists toward the inky black mass of swirling shadows – when he was within a foot, he jumped with a yell, launching himself into and through the portal.
HUMBLE TOWN
The being...Eri...absorbed the dark side's presence, loving every second of it. It was as if she was on the way to paradise, nearing closer and closer...and then she fell. She had been standing frozen, enraptured, stone faced; but her enjoyment was wrecked by the sudden realization that something was missing, lacking. At that moment, she sensed the presence of a Jedi and acknowledged the strange voice in her head...but it had been so right all along. It had gotten her this far. It deserved obedience. Eri glanced in the direction of the Jedi and his companion and was shocked as he leaped into the portal that had just been opened.
I will...do as you say.
Trusting that he would enjoy the sudden onslaught of the dark side when it had formerly been silent, Eri ignored the Sith nearby and followed Crix through the shadows, yelling "Wait for me please!" in a desperate voice. She would ideally land on the other side in a fetal position, a helpless twi'lek with big, blue eyes, victim to the power of the dark side and fearing for her life; the last thing she needed was conflict with a Jedi when there was something to be done...after all, he was supposed to help.
