As I see there is not one yet, I would like to open a thread for anyone that would like to discuss The Rise of Skywalker. Seems I wasn't paying attention and accidentally put XI instead of IX

Okay, so I am wildly disappointed with ROS. I’ll start with broad strokes, hitting three major points:

1. Within the first few minutes, and consistently through, JJ Abrams clearly sought to discredit TLJ, which was both jarring and offensive. Like any of them or not, ROS intentionally destroys any cohesion this series may have had as a trilogy.

2. Large story issues aside, the script is riddled with clunky, unmotivated, expository dialogue. Many scenes are disjointed and unpleasant to listen to.

3. I admit personal offense at the fan service. It’s too much, It’s overdone, It’s hard for casual fans to get, and It’s a cheap, lazy manipulation for those of us who’ve spent our lives with these stories. It is no substitute for careful story telling, and earned emotional catharsis.

End rant for now.

EDIT: I want to add some positive spin on this also. Being a member of this site allowed me to enjoy a lot of the details and lore adjacent things in a wonderful way as I still look forward to how that conclusion allows us to move forward with next TL.

TL;DR= I think the movie is really bad, but being on this site helped me enjoy it more than I might have otherwise.

I actually have a question about the ending. It’s likely already been discussed to death on Discord, but I’m new and couldn’t find any info on this.

Rey walks off into the sunset at the end, sort of like a lone Skywalker as well as a lone Jedi. during her confrontation with the Emperor, the voices of former Jedi included the famous ones we know, implying that even Ahsoka (as I brought up on Discord today) has likely passed away.

With that in mind, she - and the legacy as a whole - could go in pretty much any direction and the story could be logically sold. She could live her life alone, helping others along the way until she grows old and lets the Jedi die with her. She could restart her own little academy like Luke did, letting the Order bud into something more as it has in the forum’s lore. Both paths are possible.

But...what is more likely in terms of Disney’s comfort with storytelling? We all have our preferences, but I’m going crazy trying to imagine what’s more likely from a realistic IRL sense.
