Not sure if it's the best one ever, but it's really good, yeah. The scenes with Vader and Tarkin (and Leia) were perfect.

So just saw it without looking at any spoilers and holy crap was that cool! It had it's ups and downs but overall I think I'd give it at least a 7/10 mainly because of how confusing the beginning and middle were... now I'm off to watch the OT

I for one can't wait to see what other Anthology films will be released that take place during the Galactic Civil War Era. Like I said, this was the real Prequel we've been waiting for.

Also...

I saw this, and I cannot unsee it now...

I didn't like that Jyn's kyber crystal that her mom gave her ultimately did nothing. It would have been cool if Jyn had lost the Crystal at the Yavin 4 base, and then had an end credits scene of Luke about to get into the X-Wing and finds it, picks it up, looks at it, and he hears Jyn's mother say "Trust the Force".

I'd love if the kyber crystal had an ending impact, but I don't think it adds anything to the story if Luke picks it up. If it is someone like Admiral Ackbar, then yes.

No... um... I was meaning to insinuating it would be the crystal he later uses for his lightsaber in Return of the Jedi.

Yeah, but that's super contrived, and almost completely inconsequential to the story.

Beginning half was dry and boring. Second half blew me away.

What struck me most was the aesthetic of the film. When George Lucas designed Star Wars, he was going for a WWII feel with a lot of the technology. He kinda lost sight of that when he did the Prequels, which is one of the MANY reasons why I think they fell flat: they just didn't feel like Star Wars. Rogue One's return to this was excellently done. Force Awakens did a good job of it.

Another thing: the movie took brave steps in storytelling. They killed the characters and made it abundantly clear that this story was wrapped up. Want a sequel? Watch a New Hope (which is what my friends and I did right after we came home from seeing it). If the rest of the anthology films turn out like this (they won't), I've got a good feeling about what they've got in mind.

I don't think the other anthology films will be like this one. But I also think that's the point. This style wouldn't work with a Han Solo movie; which I think will play more like a lighthearted heist movie. Same with a Boba Fett movie. The Anthology films are chances for unique takes on the Star Wars universe that we don't see in the main films.

The only thing I found unsettling about Rogue One was the beginning portion, where they cycle through like five planets within a few minutes. That felt a bit rushed. Once the fighting started on Jedha, through the end of the movie, though, it was a fantastic film.

I like their decision not to include Jedi. It was cool to see a story about the regular freedom fighters in the galaxy, and it made Darth Vader that much more threatening when he went on his rampage at the end. That scene would have been a lot less scary if there had been a Jedi in there fighting him. But just the knowledge that they were all completely and totally boned made that scene really shine.

They are in a huge Galaxy, so I don't see how going through some planets quickly to establish the characters is a bad thing. XD

Such a good movie. Ugh <3 Vaders final scene was soooo put there because of the people going 'Kylo Ren's better than Vader' and omfg its so awesome. A bit sad they ALL died. >_> Would like to see K2 pop up somewhere somehow again. Saw felt like a completely different character. Still an asshole, but a different kind of asshole. Jyn was cool but a tad bland, Cassian just went completely over my head, the Guardian Duo were freaking amazing, Rook was a throwaway and the Death Troopers were kinda just... black stormtoopers that mumbled in jibberish.

They SO got me with Tarkin appearing. I was actually lost for words at that point. And I felt Krennic was an awesome character too. His power play with Tarkin and even the attempt to try and manipulate Vader a wee bit was pretty great and showed exactly what kind of person he was. I'd rather have him pop up in Rebels over Saw.

My rankings for the movies would be: Revenge of the Sith, Empire Strikes Back, Rogue One, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, Attack of the Clones, A New Hope and The Phantom Menace.

Yeah, that part was a bit confusing and overly quick-paced. But once things settled down, it was excellent.

@TwoSidedHeart sorry but I have to categorically disagree with you on the Guardian Duo. Only the blind guy advanced the plot by pressing the button at the very end to boost a signal, and even then this was a plot point that could easily have been skipped. In every other way, the Guardian Duo had no meaningful impact on the movie - it would have been the exact same movie with them or without them. Which means their characters were completely meaningless and lacked agency. This is a huge disappointment for me considering this is Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen, two huge names. And Jiang Wen's characters death was a completely meaningless disappointment. I'm sorry to say this, but the Guardian Duo was just a marketing gimmick to boost sales in the Chinese market, which have been notoriously low for Star Wars for forever. The Guardian Duo didn't even have a profound philosophical influence, which seems to have been what they were created to be.

Overall, the movie was quite good. However, I see a clear difference between the start and the finish. The intro the movie is very un-Star Wars, a showdown between a man standing in a bleak, windblown field facing down an Imperial officer and his retinue. It's like a showdown at dawn, and sets the tone of the movie - this movie is about revenging the deaths of family. The planned final scene where Jyn and Krennick fight a futile battle to the death on the beach of Scarif under the shadow of the Death Star - no matter who wins they both die - is a story that screams revenge and honor. The themes of weather-dependent battle scenes and pointless violence are very Kurosawa, and it would have been interesting to see that vision play out.

All-in-all, I like how Rogue One went. It was decidedly dark, I loved that everyone died, but there are some things I'd have changed. Saw Guerra should've played a bigger role, Cassian less, the Guardian Duo should've been the voices of reason and humanity opposing Saw's ruthless terrorism to create a moral dilemma for Jyn. I still liked the Battle of Scarif, the sacrifices of Blue Squadron and so many other rebels, and of course, the airlock scene where Vader reminded us what a juggernaut of murder and terror should look like.

Thank you for putting into words what I could not. Vader. Just. Vader.
