"This just in - Star Destroyers have been reported over the planet of Jakku, opening fire indiscriminately on civilians upon the desert planet!"
The news anchor reporting the news seems shaken, the pallor of his skin indicating beyond the tone of his words that they is most unexpected indeed. Behind him the videos play, taken from satellites and local ships, showing the very distinctive shapes of Star Destroyers in orbit around Jakku. Flashes of green and red laser fire from the warships illuminate the sands of Jakku as the ships openly bombard the planet below.
"Our research analysts suggest that the six ships shown raining down death and destruction onto Jakku are Star Destroyers - five have positively been identified as Imperial II-Class Star Destroyers, alongside a flagship that appears to be a Bellator-Class Dreadnought."
An aide to one side hands the man a dataslate that he reads quickly.
"Reports, currently uncorroborated by the Sith Empire, seem to suggest that the Sith are not behind this attack. It seems that these ships are not part of their fleet and no movement of material or personnel to the area was authorized."
A slightly nervous edge to the man's voice become apparent.
"Shortly before the bombardment started, a transmission from the Bellator-Class Dreadnought gave some insight into the awful tragedy that is now occurring right in front of our very eyes. We shall now play the transmission's audio and video of the Admiral claiming responsibility. We warn our viewers that the message contains potentially distressing wording."

This has come about as a direct consequence of this DMed thread, Observing the Darkness Beneath, wherein a team of Jedi were sent to uncover the truth behind odd occurrences on Jakku surrounding one of Palpatine's old vaults.
The surviving stormtroopers and old-school Imperials are the direct result of a cryogenics experiment that utilized both Force artefacts and technology.
It is not currently known to the Galaxy that a Jedi team was sent to the vault in the first place.
