DESCRIPTION​

The Star Seeder-class colony ship is a heavy transport manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards, and used by pioneers to settle new worlds on the fringes of the known Galaxy. Purpose built for long-range expeditions into unknown space, the type has been a staple of colonization efforts for decades, and is among Kuat's best-selling non-military products.

The Star Seeder is 280 meters in length, with a boxy hull that narrows slightly toward the bow. The ship has an optimum crew of 169 beings, and can accommodate up to 800 colonists, plus 7,500 standard tons of cargo and consumables sufficient for up to 5 years in space. As the Star Seeder is often called upon to travel to remote frontier regions where the threat of piracy and hostile alien civilizations is very much a reality, the ship is also equipped to defend itself with 6 light turbolaser cannons, as well as heavy shields. Finally, the ship is equipped with a class 3 hyperdrive, and can make 30 MGLT in realspace.

Of particular note, the Star Seeder is designed to be entirely recyclable by colonists on a frontier planet after reaching its destination. The ship can be disassembled relatively easily, its components repurposed into shelters, defensive installations, communications gear and other vital infrastructure.

In the present day, Star Seeder-class vessels serve more or less the same purpose they always have. Unfortunately, however, they are still a juicy target for pirates and slavers despite their sturdy defenses, and many have been repurposed as improvised capital ships by raiders who took them from their original owners.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Star Seeder-class colony ships are classified as heavy transports under Galactic law, however their heavy armament has made them subject to certain licensing requirements.

RESTRICTIONS​

Being heavy transports, Star Seeder-class transports are not economical to operate by oneself, and cannot be owned by a single individual. A group of at least 4 characters who regularly work together may own one in common, however, or they can be used as a faction asset.
