DESCRIPTION
If one were to ever see a StarViper class Attack Platform they would likely remember it. In the wake of the Clone Wars, a ship was designed by the shipbuilding subsidiary of MandalMotors at the behest of a leader within the Black Sun. The criminal leader was given a prototype of the ship, the Virago. This would later become the main inspiration for the StarViper design. It is believed the original model had numerous superior systems that were unsuitable or unrealistic for the public market though it is sometimes still referenced in backworld cantinas along with the names of ships like the Millenium Falcon or the Effervescent.
The unique design of the StarViper consists of four wings that can shift and retract from the controls in a central cockpit. When in maneuvering mode, the wings were folded back horizontally allowing for greater speed and maneuverability in terms of dogfighting combat. Normally the two heavy laser cannons can rotate forward and aft but this locks the weapons into the forward position. This is similar to the RZ-2's design which also have rotating turrets. The two ships even have been pitted against one another thanks to the Zann Consortium. It was noted that both torpedo launchers can be swappeed out for concussion missile launchers with no consequence to the rest of the ships performance. However Zann and his criminal network used sabotage droids instead. To this day some of these ships can still be found in use by pirate groups.
With shields and agility, coupled with its armament one would think it would begin to rival that of the A-wing. Well once in a dogfight some would come to realize their shots wouldn't take out a StarViper as easily as they would like. The trick being that Mandalorian engineering had the ship hull design implement light armor. Ordinarily this would drastically lower the performance of the ship but the materials used to build the ship was what added to the high cost. While this was an improvement on starfighter armor, it was still inferior to that of a ship of a larger size like a light freighter.
Today it can still arguably go toe to toe with the latest and greatest in space-superiority fighters. The large price tag these ships have often keeps anyone from seeing anything more than a handful at a time. These are most often in the form of private but wealthy space station defense forces or criminal elements. Individual bounty hunters and mercenaries would love to get their hands on them and sometimes spend half their career to earn enough money to own one, or die trying. It goes without saying that some people consider a Mandalorian made ship worth killing for.
