Synthetic Kyber

Crystals

"I don't need to remind you that a crimson blade doesn't guarantee that the wielder is a Sith, any more than every person strong in the Force is a Jedi."

—Unknown
Synthetic Kyber Crystals, also known as Synth-crystals, is an ancient method of using a combination of technology and the Force to speed up the geological process of forming Kyber Crystals. First made popular by ancient Jedi Exiles who were unable to harvest crystals from planets controlled by the Jedi, it has now since earned a niche space for any force user in need of a new lightsaber crystal who is unable to get it from planets such as Ilum or Dantooine.

Overview

While Synthetic Kyber Crystals are generally very volatile and a very easy way to make an enormous explosion in a small package, the ancient Jedi took the process and played around with it. They managed to create a Kyber Crystal that didn't explode when a current was put through it and produced a blade that was actually usably, though it did turn out to be quite unstable. At this point the process was still in its infancy and due to the intimacy between the forming crystal and the creator, it was extremely easy to foul up the process and even corrupt the crystal if proper focus wasn't maintained.

The process involved placing certain types of minerals (all relatively easy to acquire) into a machine called a "geological compressor" which forces the minerals to bind together. During this process (usually between 3 standard days and a week) the force user responsible needs to meditate and focus on the crystal. This presence will not only imbue it with the force and give it a colour befitting the creator, but it will also allow them to shape it in certain ways to suit their exact requirements and needs. This process is very intimate, and very vulnerable. Straying from one's focus into dark thoughts can bring out the inner darkness of the user, and losing focus could cause imperfect or even cracked crystals which can cause a number of things. Ranging from unstable blades to a volatile explosion that risks killing the creator and destroying the machine.

Those finding themselves without the "geological compressor" can construct a special type of forge to smelt the minerals and bind them. This method is much more taxing and difficult, but when push comes to shove it's quite useful.

Ultimately the concept was sealed away and the idea was shunned. A controversial argument emerged between members of the Jedi Order over the legitimacy of the synthetic crystals. Some believed that because one used the force to shape and imbue it, it made the crystal much more connected with its owner than any natural crystal. Others believed that because it was synthetic and rushed and not formed naturally like a traditional crystal, it had no worth and was even seen as sacrilege by some.

The unnaturally symmetrical shape of the crystal can sometimes be an indication of a synthetic crystal
In the broad spectrum this controversy was quite insignificant, but when the Exiles broke away from the Jedi Order a few of them held onto the method and its secrets. With their options for crystals now limited they quickly found out how useful this process is. It became widely used for a time to replace lost crystals or simply to create new lightsabers as the Exiles grew and turned into the Sith Empire.

Eventually the war escalated and the last keeper of the process found themselves on Ilum, right in the middle of the great battle that took place on the frozen planet. The Jedi were hot on their heels to steal back the secret( all recorded on a Jedi holocron of all things). In a hasty defence the Sith set up a trap. A great door was hidden in the entrance into the cavern where the keeper hid himself behind a rockfall. When the Jedi and Sith battled in the cave system, the door was sealed. The seal required exactly two Sith or Dark Side users to open it back up. After that, finding the holocron is relatively straight forward, though finding a Jedi to open it might be a trick.

This process has been lost to the centuries, buried in the bowels of Ilum under rivers of blood and strife. But finding it could unlock quite a bit of potential for any light or dark side user in need of a new weapon...

Level Requirements

While the secret is currently still lost to the galaxy, it is simply an alternative to finding a naturally occurring crystal. For those in major factions it will be quite easy to replicate the process. Independent force users might have a bit of trouble to replicate it (just like for a normal lightsaber). The process can be done by any well trained force user(level 1), though self-taught force users might need help from a trained user or simply be more powerful(level 2 or help from a trained level 1)

Intent

To introduce Synthetic lightsaber crystals into the site canon. Players could also use it to give their weapon its own story if they wanted.(Though currently the process is still unknown to the galaxy. A plot will be done to reintroduce it for players to use as they see fit)

Wouldn't this go against the current lore of bleeding a crystal for dark siders and the theory behind kyber crystals and their connection to the Force?

Also natural crystals grow on other worlds besides Ilum and Dantooine, like Jedha, Christophosis, Lothal, Mygeeto...probably anywhere as Wookieepedia states they grow rarely, but are found throughout the galaxy.

I'll admit I took some liberties with some parts. Tho they might not have been good liberties. Usually the synthetic crystals get their red shine and (usually) dark properties thanks to manipulation by the dude creating it. I guess my way of input sucked a bit...

Tho some parts, especially where kyber crystals were found, I wasn't sure how it was handled. Especially the monitoring of those planets by the Jedi. In Legends the Jedi had the places closely monitored, but I'm not sure how they were handled by the Jedi in the beginning as the Exiles broke away last TL.
