DESCRIPTION
The T3 series is an antique model of utility droid which was first manufactured by Duwani Mechanical Products around 4,000 BBY. One of the conceptual ancestors of later astromech droids, the T3 lacked the advanced hardware which would enable its descendants to perform hyperspace calculations, however it was equipped with an impressive array of tools, limited piloting capabilities and a plucky, loyal, resourceful personality. Millennia later, when the Industrial Automaton corporation was designing its famous R2-series astromech, they would take many cues from the old T3.

The T3, though not capable of performing hyperspace calculations, is in most other respects the same as a modern astromech in terms of form and functionality. Small, with a flat, circular cranial turret and a boxy chassis, it has a tripodal stance, with a fixed rear strut and a pair of moveable legs, all tipped with wheels for locomotion. The T3 comes standard with an array of integrated tools, sufficient for minor maintenance and repair work aboard most starships, plus an array of useful sensors. Though not a dedicated pilot model, the T3 is capable of flying a wide range of ships, and some examples have been known to become extremely proficient if not given regular memory wipes.

The T3, though once a best-selling item, has become exceedingly rare in the 4,000-odd years since its release. Long discontinued by its manufacturer, most functional examples exist in private collections. Duwani has occasionally undertaken limited commemorative production runs, however new-built T3s use correspondingly modern components, crucially with personality matrices that only emulate the original hardware, leading to certain inconsistencies.

LEGALITY
