DESCRIPTION
TC-SC droid’s were built for the sole purpose of utilizing the holographic disguise matrix to its fullest. Originally made by Cybot Galactica for the act of espionage, they were built to look like standard third-degree droids to draw less attention to themselves. Programmed to follow orders of espionage originally, they soon found use in being effective assassin droids given their ability to change its shape to resemble any humanoid figure of its same size by using its integrated disguise matrix and modifiable Vocabulator. However, the issue was soon found that while it can look the part, it lacked the capabilities of simulating a human in thought and judgment, it was a robot following code after all. In answer to this, they upgraded its cognitive module to be able to simulate things such as emotion. An unforeseen issue cropped up from this, as drones were reported to gain “fake sentience” and think they are the people they are imitating. Some reports even suggested gaining personalities and unique quirks, but this was dealt with by constant maintenance and memory wipes to the affected droids. These droids found wide use through the years as assassins, espionage, political stand-ins, and other varied reasons.

The base droid is outfitted with a standard holographic disguise matrix, a modifiable Vocabulator, and an integrated comlink. These tools are not without flaws, however. The H.D.M, for example, is only a hologram projector, it simply projects a hologram shell over its target to make them look like something else of similar size and copy body movements/facial gestures. They are not solid and often can be found out with something as simple as a pat on the back going past the shell, causing the hologram to glitch out and pixelate. This effect also happens when the droid is running on a low battery or with quick/unpredictable movements.

While the H.D.M can create holograms on the fly for users, it must first scan the intended copied target for around five minutes. At which time a visible red light projects out of the device and scans the target meant for copying, only projecting a final copy over the user after that time is elapsed. Most droids when sent on missions had a few disguises programmed in to avoid this issue, but they were situational to the mission and did not have much use outside of it.

In pairing with this, the advanced Vocabulator also has potential drawbacks. Needing to be manually adjusted to match pitch and volume with each time it is changed given the wide variety of voices. This process, of course, needs a long enough sample and around 1-3 minutes given the ‘challenge’ of voice. It should be noted this does not account for unique voice traits, such as a lisp or stutter and other intonation, only really going as far as accents.

LEGALITY
Highly illegal everywhere. However, that does not stop both good and bad parties from using these types of droids all over the systems for a variety of reasons. These reasons range from political stand-ins to their intended purpose of assassinations, infiltration, and espionage. It should also be noted that due to the intentionally generic design of the droid, most do not realize it is an illegal model.

INTENT
My intention with this is to make a smuggler character by using this type of droid as a base. It will have gained “fake sentience” and gotten away from its original owners to live a life of its own. It knows it’s a robot, but thanks to a malfunction in the cognitive module it is scared of being reset, that being its equivalent of ‘death’. I think this will lead to unique story possibilities and just be fun to play, honestly.

RESTRICTIONS
This droid model will be subject to extra scrutiny during role-play.
