A bit ago, I remember seeing someone say that when characters win a battle, the planet/square they were on goes to their faction. Is this true? I'm doing a thread on Dantooine, so if the Sith side wins PvP, do we get Dantooine?

Thanks in advance

We wouldn't take control of Dantooine it might be possible to gain a point necessary to invade. At least it might if the thread is considered a mission.

You'd have to get permission from the Sith faction leadership for it to be considered a mission, and at the bare minimum you'd need roughly 5 threads done to set up an invasion as well as at least 3 battle threads, of which at least 2 would need to be won in the sith's favor to conquer any territory within another faction's territory.

Furthermore, the "capturing" of grid squares is being revamped/removed post time skip. Please see the Time Skip Date Announcement.

As of right now there is a specific number of "points" the faction must earn in order to add a planet or grid square to your factions territory. I also believe the thread must be a faction sanctioned mission, but I'm not 100% sure. Check the link here for a full break down on rules regarding grid point acquisition. Scroll down to: Section VI: Factions and Missions for the explation on it. @Comrade Matt

C. Completed missions are required to contest a region. A faction must complete at least two Conflict Missions or at least four Non-Conflict Missions (or a mix of the two) within a grid square to contest a territory. Grid campaigns must have at least three (3) threads for the main battle to take the square. Invaders must win a majority to obtain the grid. (See the galaxy map for more information on grid squares).

So my "roughly 5" comment was off by 1. Unless a Faction leader chooses to use a thread towards that goal after the fact, most people tend to get their permission for their threads to be considered missions and to count towards that goal. Three threads are needed for the main battle, "the majority of which" or as I said, "at least 2" would need to be won in that faction's favor. If your somehow privy to secret requirements or information, I'd be thrilled if you could enlighten me.

We can stay polite and have the same discussion, no need to get snarky.

Now to answer the actual question, one PvP win on a planet already owned by a faction does not get you ownership of the planet (and square it is a part of). The mission will have to be followed up with more threads (which need not be PvP fights, could even be normal or espionage missions). At that point the current owners of the planet can defend the planet through battles which they get to set up (where, how many participants, how many treads, etc)

On the other hand if the planet was in unoccupied space you could simply do a fewer number of threads (2 opens is probably the correct number but don't quote me on that as I can't remember that off the top of my head) and then the planet is yours. But only factions of indie factions can do that, can't have privately owned planets. And the requirements are slightly more strict for indie factions.

For the precise number of threads required for each claim you can look up the main rules thread, that has all this info.
