Esther was born on Kiffu, the youngest child out of four siblings. Her childhood was spent well, amongst family and kinsmen. Yet in her late adolescence, her home was raided by brazen slavers; it was so unexpected that the Kiffar clan was caught off guard. During the skirmish, young Esther was taken. It was believed she, along with other children, were targeted specifically for her clan’s abilities with the Force. When the chaos settled, Esther, along with a few others, were gone, spirited away off-world into the bowels of the galaxy underworld.
The slavers, having misunderstood the finite skills of retrospection, believed the Kiffar were accomplished seers, and thus marketed the children off as oracles. This, however, was not the case. Nevertheless, Esther soon found herself in the clutches of a cult, one which worshipped darkness and all that encompassed. Whilst nearly all of the cult members were not force sensitive themselves, they tried incorrectly to use Esther in order to further their own knowledge and power. On numerous occasions, she was exposed to (supposedly) dark items and objects, looted or acquired from parts of the galaxy; luckily, many were benign but the few that weren't proved horrific to interact with. During this time, the occultists marked Esther with symbols of their belief, further subjugating her till she was rescued when a cell of Jedi shadows, in turn, raided the occultist stronghold.
Esther remained with the Jedi after this, recovering from her ordeal slowly. She soon became unwilling to leave, feeling the Order gave her a degree of protection; in doing so, she became a padawan.
Personality
Sensitive by nature, Esther retreated into herself during her captivity. The cultist markings on Esther’s face are a great source of shame for her, and she often covers them with a veil or mask, along with baggy robes. Given her people’s warrior-like reputation, she felt she could have fought harder against her enslavement. Also, because of the cultist markings, she feels unworthy to receive her official clan’s facial tattoos, the qukuuf. She has not returned to Kiffu since she was taken and still does not know the fate which befell her family.
Though Esther tries to hide it through indifference, Esther is still deeply shaken by her torments; she is understandably fearful of the Dark Side and will try her utmost to avoid anything related to it.
Whilst not intentionally hostile, Esther can be distrustful of others. She has become known as a bit of a recluse amongst the other padawans, shunning most of their company. She prefers solitude and has begun to hone her combative skills once more, preferring that over meditation as she does not like reflecting too deeply with the Force just yet.
Skills
Like some of her kinsmen, Esther was born with the ability of psychometry, a skill that allows her to sense the memories of other beings by touching objects that they had come into contact with. However, due to horrific experiences, and lack of actual training, she is very reluctant to develop this ability (at this stage in time). Though her connection with the force is as strong as any other padawan, she seems to opt more for physical skills, such as combat and mechanical repairs. Whilst she could develop skills in tracking (like those of her people) she has shown little interest to do so thus far.
Equipment

Neera was orphaned from a young age. What became of her parents is unknown to her, as well as how she ended up in Coruscant’s underbelly. Yet, like many young children, she was drafted into a gang of crooks and thieves; modelling themselves as a family, they taught their street urchins how to steal. Being a Nagai, Neera was extremely skilled, given her dexterity and agility; the discovery of her force sensitivity was of extra benefit and soon she became one of the gang family’s favourites.
Trouble started however when her criminal family pushed their luck a step too far. Running afoul of the Hutts, Neera’s gang scattered, leaving her to strike out on her own. Using her skills and connections, she seeks to make a name for herself amongst the galaxy’s underworlds.
P E R S O N A L I T Y
Growing up with nothing, Neera craves everything; rewarded for her criminal skills, she is willing to risk much, providing the payout is worth it. She’s not above scams and sabotage, as well anything covert related. Despite being raised away from her people, Neera still exhibits the Nagai’s natural charm and charisma. It is also said that the species have a soothing and hypnotic voice, something which proves true for Neera. Knowing she appears weak and willowy, Neera is more than happy to play a vulnerable role; her ability to manipulate others comes from her con artist experience. She does, however, lack the stereotypical Nagai honour, being that there was very little of that amongst her gang family. Neera is still learning the ropes, and as of yet, has not developed her own personal code of honour. She is, instead, more focused on pursuing her greed and desires.
A B I L I T I E S
Expert thief and pickpocket, with fledging abilities in the force. Much of this has been learnt through trial and error; Neera is especially adept at using her voice, coupled with mind tricks. She has also been known to muster some telekinesis, but this takes much concentration. Against a trained force user, Neera would definitely be at a disadvantage.
Like many of her species, Neera is an attractive female, and (on more than one occasion) has used this attribute to her advantage. Though sylphlike in appearance, she is handy with a blade, choosing melee over blasters in order to catch her enemies off guard.
