Per my new OP template, thread is death enabled
Things had been moving quickly over the last few days, and Varyn had barely managed to get himself a wink of sleep. Dantooine to get new lightsabers, meetings that needed to be had, and now to Korriban to secure the former-Sith academy.

Varyn had been attached to a large Imperial task force to make sure that any students who were still of an impressionable age were not simply kidnapped and dragged off for indoctrination by the Sith, and he found himself wondering how he was going to be participating in his not his first, not his second, but his third raid on a temple. Once from the side of being a child and now twice being the aggressor. Weird ways that the Force worked.

He had set down near the staging area dressed in his custom IAC armor and two new sabers hanging from his belt. He had no idea what they'd face, but he didn't anticipate there being a large fight. After all, most of the Sith had already cleared out, but he wasn't going to hold his breath or bank on it.

The sun was beating down high in the sky, and that alone made him eager to cross the threshold into the academy's side entrance just to escape the heat, head on a swivel as he searched for any signs of resistance alongside his new partner.

This Cassir's first big mission, they are here on Korriban to liberate any young children's that might still be in the Academy. The Sith withdraw from here couldn't have been orderly and there are sure to be a number that were abandoned in the Academy. The Imperials will make sure they will not be taken by the Sith.

Cassir would be attached to Varyn Atrix, who the squire has heard that he is a seasoned warrior, a reformed ex-Sith who one could learn a lot from.

Although Cassir doesn't have the red armor yet, he is wearing a squire's uniform and is wearing dueling gauntlets. He is already gripping his lightsaber hilt in his right hand, not ignited yet.

Standing besides Varyn, Cassir didn't spot any one else either as he looked around. So far the atmosphere was eerie. This is Korriban and not much else besides the winds blowing, red sand in the air along with it. The creepy setting was even more ready for Cassir to be more on edge and prepared for anything. "Don't see anything yet.." Cassir said to Varyn. "Ready to move out" he affirmed, ready to cross over into the side academy entrance.

Varyn couldn't help but think back to the first time he had come here and how different it was now. He'd been a Knight undercover as an Acolyte and had met Vahliri here on an assignment from one of the Masters.

Now he walked through the halls as... somewhere between conquerer and invader.

Cassir was one of the new recruits into the Imperial Knights, and at worst, this was an opportunity to get some of his teaching in since that seemed as though it would be one of his new duties.

I'm guessing we'll run into some security droids and more zealot loyalists at least. Even if the Imperials have defected, this was the heart of the Sith religion, he said, pulling one of his saber hilts into his hand and just holding it there as he pressed on through the academy.

No one's around, so they probably gathered all the students in one place. A cafeteria or training room, maybe, he said because that was what he would have done.

What can you sense? he asked, reaching out with his own senses. The Dark Side here was, of course, stifling and obscuring, and he wondered if the... what was it, Squire? Yeah, Squire would be able to sense anything at all.

Varyn would indeed know best about what could be inside, as an ex-Sith he may have been in this very acadamy. Cassir thought there would probably be a few or so actual Sith in there, maybe some troopers hopelessly indoctrinated to the Order. But Cassir forgotten about the possibility of droids. "Got it" he acknowledged as he accompanied Varyn. Those are good point, any holdouts here wouldn't just be lying out in the open waiting to be cut down by the Imperial surely enough, and the Sith would try shepherding any children they possibly can in one place. Either way, Cassir will be extra sure to be on-guard as they would go into the academy.

As for what Cassir can sense, he stop in place for a few moments and would close his eye, making a focused effort to reach out. "Everything's clouded like a shroud... the Dark Side is strong here." Cassir would then take a some steps forward. "Can't sense anything else" Is that how it's supposed to be? Maybe once Cassir devolped he'll be able to discern better over the Dark Side presence. "Can you pick out anything?" he said after a brief pause would wonder if the veteran ex-Sith would be able to?

Being cautious, he would have his lightsaber pressed with a battle ready grip. As they would venture through the ancient hallways, just earie silence. Up ahead would be a door leading into the the training room.

Varyn nodded as Cassir said that everything was shrouded. He wasn't wrong, Varyn could sense it too. The place was - and always would be - shrouded in the Dark Side, which now sought to undo them. It was not their ally here, and it tugged at the their minds in hopes of poisoning them even as they advanced.

Because it doesn't want to help us, he said. It's the ally of the Sith so be wary, he said, letting his own senses stretch out. He could still sense a bit even past the obscure shrouding of this place. There were people here, and he... though he sensed malicious intent. But also fear. Fear was perhaps the thing that stood out more than anything.

We're definitely not alone, he said, pressing onward in the direction where he sensed life.

His saber snapped to life out of instinct, his saber swinging upward and batting a blaster bolt aside. From the levels above them a pair of soldiers - no, not soldiers but Sith sycophants - opened fire on the pair as they advanced.

I'll draw their fire, get to the flank, he said, saber swinging around to slam another bolt out of the air as he danced aside from another blast. He was creating quite a show that would allow his partner to get the flank.

Varyn spoke of the Dark Side as if it has it's own will, one actively helping the Sith. Cassir nodded. That's even more reason to be on guard throug. Cassir's own senses were still failing him to sense anything useful though these treacherous dark walls.

After the first blaster bolt shots rung out, Cassir would ignite his lightsaber and assume a defensive position, looking up the directions of the shots and blade diagonal to quickly intercept and shots heading his way, he would catch one bolt, deflecting it upwards harmlessly "Got it" he said to Varyn after suggesting taking the fire while the squire would go flank them. With that he would look real quick and see corner that had a stairwell going up, with that. Cassir would then slip away, deflecting a blaster shot aimed towards. Now that it's just Varyn in view the sycophants would be inclined to keep trying to pelting him with blaster shots.

Now up the stairs and now having a good view of the two sycophants. One of the would notice Cassir and aim to shoot him, Blocking one more shot, he would then quickly extend his hand and force push the one into the other with enough force to knock both of them down, knocking their blasters out of their hands.

Now closing the distance, Cassir would plunge his lightsaber into one sycophants in the chest as he would attempt to stir up, killing him. That just leave one more them, the other would get to their feet and then realize they don't have any options. Cassir would then disengage his blade and then toss him to the same floor as where Varyn is. It would hurt the sycophant and he would realized his concerned.

Jumping down to the ground floor he would then turn towards the senior ex-Sith. "Hmmm, you think we can get any information from him?" he mused aloud, this last sycophant was no longer a threat it seemed and maybe they could discover where the children are being kept in this academy. If not worth the effort, oh well. It was an idea though.

Varyn deflected the blaster shots without too much difficulty as he watched the squire make his flanking route up the side. Varyn decided to try to practice his deflection while he was at it, sending the bolts back in the directions they had come in. But that wa quite difficult to do when your opponent was in cover, so while the shots landed close, they didn't quite hit home or find purchase in his enemies.

It was of no consequence, though. The squire had made his flank and finished one of the enemies off before hurling the other to the floor. Varyn could hear the crunch and pop of bones that accompanied the fall and the man screamed out in pain.

For a moment, Varyn didn't close in, waiting to see if the man surrendered or not, but in the end, he wasn't sure it mattered. He was an enemy, and if there was any chance of him fighting back, Varyn wouldn't hesitate.

The man scrambled to his feet and rather than grab his weapon, he turned and began to run. Varyn reached out with the Force, raising his free hand and gripping the man before slamming him harshly into the wall. There was more bone-crunching and he went limp, falling to the floor in silence. Varyn could sense that he was still alive, but the Imperial Knight was satisfied that he was at least not much of a threat for the moment.

Good work, let's press on. I sense more people further inside! he said, proceeding over toward the stairs to ascend and meet with his partner.

As he drew closer he spoke in a quieter, more conversational voice. We should find and secure the security office, he said.

Sounds good.

Cassir would move forward, following the signs on the sealings that are pointing towards the security office. Throughout he kept on guard and alert, trying to reach out with his senses. Soon, it would just be one more turn to the right. Upon turning the corner at the end of the hallway there would be a door guarded by four of the RDR droids, armed with blaster rifles, two on both sides of it. Varyn mentioned before there very well could indeed be droids. That must be the security office indeed. "I got the two on the right." Cassir said taking some intiative, think that it shouldn't need a big plan or anything for two force users to take out some droids.

As the droids would caught on the sight of authorized people, Cassir extended his free hand and exert the force to pull one of the droids over towards him, then he would ignite his lightsaber. As the other droids would raise their blasters to fire Cassir would quickly ignite his lightsaber and then swing it to cleave the reeled-in droid in half at the mid section and he would be starting to move in on the other one, quickly transitioning to a defensive position with both hands on it, just in time to deflect one shot towards the ceiling, another down into the ground harmlessly, the last into the door causing only superficial damage. By this time Cassir closed the distance and would swing his lightsaber to decapitate the droid, leaving it to slump to the ground.

If Varyn dispatched the other droids, the Squire would try reaching out with his senses once more. "Hmmm I sense... panic, desperation, very close by. Lots of it" he looked at Varyn. It can't be pinpointed to the security office, but it most likely is coming from the security office. Probably someone trying to do all they can to stop the Imperials and coming up short. "After you" the squire would ready himself. There might be some actual force-using Sith inside.

Varyn saw the droids and made his move accordingly. His saber swung around, batting blasterfire out of the way as he advanced before thrusting out his free hand to knock the droids back with the Force.

They both fell back and Varyn's saber swept around to cleave through the first while the second moved back to its feet with surprising speed, opening fire that Varyn only narrowly managed to deflect to the side.

He advanced slowly but steadily on the droid, batting bolts aside before dodging the final one and cleaving the droid in two at the chest.

Entering the security room quickly, Varyn moved over to man the controls, slicing down the droids that operated the room with ease.

Scorched earth, he muttered to himself, wondering suddenly if the Sith were just going to kill anyone they couldn't lay claim to.

We need to move quickly, he said, glancing back at the monitors and trying to quickly scroll through the feeds to find the source of the disturbance. Sure enough, one Sith instructor and a small group of droids were moving through the building, hunting and killing anyone they could find.

New mission: eliminate with extreme prejudice, he said, voice growing deathly serious.

With extreme prejudice. Varyn said. The instruction was clear, the instructor dies, no holding back. That was the dark presence Cassir was sensing. "Understood" he replied. . Having got all they needed from the security room he would then depart from there. Now to go on the hunt for the instructor, which the dark figure was on the hunt themselves. The hunter will become the hunted?

Going through the corridors, they are poised to meet the instructor and his droids soon. Now they would be would meet at an intersection. Without hesitation, Cassir would start on trying to eliminate the instructor, there are also those droids that are shifting to fire, they will be annoying and charging in with the Sith instructor might be overwhelming for the squire. Cassir would ignite his lightsaber and then use the force to toss it like a frizbee, towards the instructor. Like a frizbee, the lightsaber would be spinning as well with it's yellow blade acting as a fan of death it would cleave through a quite a bit of droids on the way through it's target, although the Sith instructor would ignite his lightsaber and then dash to the side to dodge it.

Cassir would use the Force to rapidly call his lightsaber right back to his hand. and he'd be ready to keep attacking.

Varyn moved along with his partner, the duo moving with good speed to intercept the others. They rounded a corner to spot the instructor just slashing his way through a group of older acolytes who seemed as though they were interested in abandoning the Sith for the Empire.

It made Varyn's blood boil and he lunged forward, sabers bursting to life in both hands as he watched Cassir's blade fly past him, cutting through some of the droids before being batted aside by the instructor.

Take out the droids! he shouted back, hoping that Cassir would be able to manage that. While it was arguably the easier of the two tasks, there were still a lot of droids for one trainee to handle.

For his part, Varyn tied up the instructor, moving in with both of his sabers flashing in a deadly dance of parry, feint, and slash. It was a dance he had become very familiar with over the last decade and a half of his life.

"On it!" Cassir replied. There is quite a lot of droids so he has quite a bit of work to do, his earlier saber throw took out of a bit. Now with a saber back in his hand and now blasters aiming at him and shooting at him, Cassir would dash over to the side to try and line up as many droids as possible in front of him. Having dodged a few blaster shots, this way, he would have his lightsaber in a defensive position to defending against blaster bolts. Now diving forward he would swing his blade wide and he'd managed to catch three of them, cleaving them in the mid section.

Although the number of droids have thinned out there are still quite a bit and Cassir lacks the power and force reserves needed to take most of them down at once. Cassir will settle for being able hold them off while Varyn engages with the instructor, who Cassir both sees clashing with some excellent bladework.

There was no skill that Varyn had honed as much as those of his lightsabers. The speed with which the two combatants exchanged saber blows was quick and fierce. Block, slash, block, block, thrust, and then a double slash that Varyn used to lock his opponent's blade in place, yanking hard and leveraging it free of the Sith's hands.

Both of Varyn's sabers swung around and slammed through the man's torso both high and low, leaving his body to fall to the floor in three places.

Varyn turned quickly and saw how well the Squire had done against the droids and he darted forward, sabers slashing around to join him in the combat.

The two of them managed to cut the droids down in relatively short order, and Varyn pulled up, breathing hard from the exertion.

You have some skill with your sabers. Where did you learn? he asked, wondering if he was a Sith acolyte or similar before recently joining the Knights.

In-between cleaving droids, Cassir did glance to see that the Sith that Varyn was fighting fell, all the pieces of him. Now Varyn and Cassir could finish up with the droids. The end there were debris of droids all around, limbs scattered about, droids missing their heads, droids missing half of their bodies, in all varying directions. Today was not a good day to be a bucket of bolts to say the least

After the dust, blood, and sparks were settled, Cassir was winded, and needed a moment to catch his breath. It's evident he doesn't have stamina that a seasoned fighter like Varyn does. Disengaging his lightsaber he would try breathing.

Cassir would turn towards Varyn, the squire smiled as the other complemented his bladework. "Heh heh. Thanks." Now for the question. "At Raxus" The squire hasn't been part of the Sith, he's a among the new generation of Imperial Knights that wouldn't have been part of the organization. "My trainer is an reformed Sith now a Knight whose loyalty is to the Empire." he did say. Sith training was harsh, Cassir's training as a squire was harsh, but in in a different way than he could imagine Sith training being like.

Cassir would look around, aside from some bodies, of people or droids, and some acolytes that were relieved to be saved from their cruel instructor. "Is there any more of you around. Any other Sith?" he would ask the group of students still there, if there were any more left to save or any more Sith like the instructor they slain that also need to be dealt with. Considering the Sith largely abandoned the place, it's hard to be imagine there would be more remaining, but it's not outside the possibility. If there is nothing else, then there is nothing stopping the Imperials from getting the acolytes out safely.

With the Sith dead and the droids dispatched, Varyn could begin to hear the sounds of the Imperial troopers making their way inside, securing the area behind the pair of Knights.

They encountered little resistance on the rest of their trek through the academy and the acolytes were quickly rounded up to be sorted and likely filtered into retraining operations. Operations that Varyn was likely going to have his hands full with in the coming months.

A job well done, and pretty smooth, he said when he and Cassir were alone again. No complaints, but time would tell what lay in wait for the two of them in the future.
