The Eight Tenets of the Jedi Order.

Jedi are the defenders of peace and order in the galaxy - that is to say, the loyalty of the Jedi must be to the main government of the galaxy, soas to support the stability enjoyed by the existance of said government. To rebel is to create disorder and chaos. However, when the galaxy is split, and turmoil cannot be avided, a Jedi must side with the party whom he or she believes is doing the right thing - even if it means siding against other Jedi.

Emotions are unavoidable, but lessons may be learned from the feeling of these emotions. However, emotions of such strength as to cause a Jedi to act or behave in a manner different from rational thought are dangerous, and must be avoided for a Jedi to truly master the Force.

Feelings of attraction and love are to be explored carefully and with rationality in mind. Romantic pathways must be tread with care soas to avoid pain and anger. Marriage is a lifelong commitment a Jedi must treat with great care and responsibility - it is not the Council's right to interfere with personal matters such as these, but heeding their counsel on these matters would be most wise.

The Jedi are to respect life and other life forms, in any form, and only take a life when deemed necessary. A Jedi must put the need of the community over the needs of individuals. A Jedi is not to act for solely personal gain or greed - the good of all must be his goal.

A Jedi is to protect the weak and defenseless. A Jedi may not kill a defenseless individual. Also, should a Jedi be in a position where aid may be given to the weak or the poor, then the Jedi should do what they can to aid the situation within the guidelines of the Code, the Tenets, and of course the law.

A Jedi should not feel obligated to follow the Grandmaster and High Council blindly. Rather, a true Jedi will do what is right, not what all others are doing. However, a Jedi may never openly oppose the High Council or the Grandmaster - such matters must remain private.

Rulership and extreme financial wealth possessed by a Jedi are not uncommon. However, a Jedi must be willing to forsake such material or social wealth for their Order. A Jedi must rule kindly and with fairness, but they also must not neglect their teachings or their people. As such, the life of a Jedi ruler is a hard one - many choose to pursue a single path, rather than attempt to walk both with one foot.

A Jedi must consider the Living and Cosmic manifestatiosn of the Force - one must be mindful of the present, but also look to both the future and the past for guidance.

So sayeth the Eight Tenets.
May the Force be with Us All.
