Since Chancellor Emil Ro’s disastrous attack to Denon, the Brentaal Houses started to feel insecure under his leadership. He had bypassed the authority of the senate and caused damage to the relations between the New Republic and the Free Worlds Alliance. As if that wasn't enough, he had still voted for the proposals made by the idiot Cal Starros, putting the entire economy of the Core Worlds at risk. Sibyl couldn't believe how someone could be so stupid! Perhaps the tabloids were right and Ro only thought with his lust.

Due to these insecurities, Sibyl was in her estate waiting for an important guest. She was wearing a long gray dress. The location she had chosen for the meeting had been her garden gazebo. There was a table with a teapot, cups and various treats. The Senator of Brentaal was seated in a chair, while the one that was destined to her guest remained empty.

Sibyl was already impatient, these last few days had been difficult. First Ro attacks Denon, then Tristodd returns from the dead, and now Starros' ideas are approved. She had barely been able to sleep. Her musings were interrupted by the voice of Dongwa “My Lady, your guest arrived.

Finally! Bring him here.” the Senator said, her mood hasn't been good lately. Sibyl blamed Tristodd and Starros for it. She couldn’t decide which one of them was worse. After the droid left the gazebo. The Brentalaan woman took a deep breath, calming herself in preparation for this meeting. Everything should happen perfectly, after all her fate and that of Brentaal depends on what was going to be discussed today.

Only a day or two had passed since the most recent Senate session on Naboo, and Galek hadn’t been back home on Indupar for more than a few hours when he received an invitation from the Senator of Brentaal. He could not deny having been a tad bit surprised to see the notification appear on his datapad, having had little to no interactions with the Senator. Still, the mention of ‘important matters’ to discuss piqued his interest, and it didn’t take the prince long to accept the invitation.

He arrived on Brentaal after an uneventful journey, stepping down from the ramp of his ship and making his way towards the estate entrance. While they had seen one another on the Senate floor in the past, this was Galek’s first real meeting with the Senator of Brentaal, and he dressed to make an impression.

His black hair was styled in its usual manner, while the air around him was perfumed with the scent of expensive cologne. Galek wore a black Sherwani with aurodium buttons, alongside a black and gold sash that draped across his shoulder. His ensemble was accessorized by several rings on his fingers, as well as an ISC emblem pinned to his breast.

Greeted by Dongwa when he arrived, Galek was led through the estate lavish estate until he reached the garden gazebo and where Sibyl was waiting. Once there, the prince offered her a polite dip of his head, a polite smile brushing against his lips.

“Senator Lassiter,” He began, his sing-song voice tinged with that characteristic Induparan accent. “Thank you for having me. Brentaal – and this lovely estate - are far more beautiful than I ever could have imagined.” The casual pleasantries and words of flattery came naturally to Galek, having something he’d been drilled in since birth, and yet there was an bit of truth as he spoke them now. This was his first time visiting the wealthy planet, and the opulence of wealthy houses was not missed.

With that, he made his way over to the table where Sibyl sat, taking a seat opposite to her. The prince briefly glanced towards the teapot, though didn’t reach for them quite yet. He was half-expecting the protocol droid to offer, anyway, and so fixated his attention on the woman before him.

“To what do I owe this gracious invitation?

Sibyl watched Dongwa guide Galek to the gazebo. As the Brentaalan woman always did with other politicians with whom she was going to meet, she made a search about the man. From what she could find, the Senator discovered that the Induparan seemed to be one of these idealistic types. She was already fed up with this kind of people, it was enough to have to deal with Tristodd and listen to Starros vomit his stupidity in the Senate. Now she was going to have tea with one of them! If the young man starts to talk about his delusions, she would need to use all her strength to not drown him in the garden lake. At least she was impressed with his clothes, perhaps he could give some tips to her aide. If Tristodd had Ordalos’ taste for clothes, perhaps Sibyl would tolerate him a bit more.

When he arrived at the gazebo, Sibyl rose from her seat to greet him. “Governor Ordalos, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you in person! I hope that your stay in Brentaal will be very pleasant. ” she said, smiling at him. "Take a seat." After he seated, the Senator noticed how Galek looked at the teapot "Would you like some tea?" she picked it and poured some in their cups. "It's from Firrerre, a rarity these days." After this planet was glassed by the Sith, the Brentaalan woman bought nearly all tea from there which was still in the market. Now only she and her guests could appreciate it.

Sibyl was sipping her tea while Galek asked why she had invited him. She was impressed that he already wanted to go directly to the point. The Senator was sure that Ordalos already imagined the reason behind this invitation. If not, then the Senator could say that he was a naïve idiot like Tristodd.

"Well, Governor, recent events have made many members of the Brentaal Houses reflect that perhaps the New Republic is no longer the best for Brentaal. " she paused to sip more of her tea. While doing it, she watched Ordalos' reactions. "The problems in the Republic's economy, the recurrent scandals around the Chancellor, his disregard for the Senate and now his open friendship with the Jedi are factors that made some nobles very furious." she remembers how angry Caledan Brentioch was when it was announced that the New Republic would start an open friendship with the Jedi Order; the man hated Force users.

"Due to all that, they started to think that the future of our planet could be elsewhere. Then they asked me to invite you and ask something very important." Sibyl put her cup on the table, while looking directly at Galek "Is the ISC open for the possibility of Brentaal joining it?"

“Tea would be lovely, thank you.” Galek said politely, flashing the Brentaalan a polite smile at the offer of Firrerreon tea. Since the destruction of Firrerre, ISCRA ports of entry had been overflowing with Firrerreo refugees and families - a great deal of whom had come to settle on Thyferra, due to the planet’s similar climate. Specialty goods from the devastated planet had become a rarity, and there was something to be said about indulging in such an extravagance.

“It must have cost you a fortune to obtain.” He grinned. When the cup was poured, the prince finally reached forward to pick it up off the saucer. He took a small sip of the earthy-green liquid, taking a moment to savor its delicate flavor before turning back to look at Sibyl.

Galek asked his question of the evening, and patiently awaited the answer from the woman. Of course, the prince had his suspicions about the purpose of this little meeting, but he wasn’t about to vocalize any assumptions. If Sibyl had gone through the trouble of inviting him here, she could explain the reasons why.

He listened carefully to what Sibyl said, silently confirming what he already assumed. Though it didn’t manifest externally, Galek was exceptionally pleased by what he was hearing – the words coming as music to his ears. After all, Brentaal was one of the wealthiest planets in the Core, and it occupied arguably the most valuable locations in the entire galaxy. Bringing the planet into the ISC would be a boon to their growing economy and could even encourage other planets of the Core to do the same.

“I understand your concerns, Senator Lassiter. Luckily, I can proudly say that the ISC has been able to avoid many of the problems you have mentioned. While the Republic has continued its trend of economic decline, the ISC has experienced nothing short of exponential growth. Additionally, while the Republic and FWA leadership seem intent on establishing closer relationships with the Jedi, disassociation has been a long-standing policy of the ISC.”

He leaned back a bit in his chair, shrugging his shoulders. “And in doing so, we have been able to avoid outright conflict with the Empire.” He knew the last thing he said would appeal to Sibyl and her contemporaries in the Brentaalan houses. Due to its strategic position, war with the Sith would undoubtedly make the planet a target. A war that the ISC had carefully avoided.

Galek purposefully didn’t address any of the scandals surrounding the Chancellor. What tabloids said about Emil Ro was of very little concern to Galek, and he wasn’t about to dignify such headlines with any kind of response.

Instead, the prince opted to finally answer her question. “It is.” He said simply, setting his teacup back down onto its saucer. “The ISC is always open to the discussing the possibility of accepting new member planets – whether they be from the Outer Rim, or the Core. Tell me Senator Lassiter,” He leaned forward a bit, knitting his hands together in front of him. “What does Brentaal hope to gain by joining the ISC? And, more importantly, what do you hope to offer?”

Sibyl smiled at Galek’s comment about the tea. Although the rest of the boxes that are stored in the mansion pantry were bought as soon as the glassing of Firrerre was announced, it wasn't the case of the one that they were drinking. “Not so much. I bought this one before the Sith attacked Firrerre. I’m only using it on special occasions.” then she remembered when she asked for this tea to commemorate Tristodd’s apparent death. How she regrets having spent this rare tea with a lie.

While the Governor boasted about how the ISC was going well while the NR and the FWA were in decline, Sibyl was sipping her tea. However, she was paying close attention to what the man was saying. She agreed with everything, so far the Consortium seemed to be thriving while the rest of the Galaxy was suffering with the decline of the Credit. Now there is the danger of a full war against the Sith. The Senator always supported the idea that they should fight these Dark siders, but after their sudden attack to Firrerre and the refusal of the FWA in accepting an defensive alliance, preferring to do stupid sanctions, she understood that for the survival of her homeworld, neutrality would be necessary.

Then Chancellor Ro decides to make public the Republic’s friendship with the Jedi. This put a bull’s eye on all NR worlds. The Senator and the Brentaal Houses entered in panic, they knew very well that their homeworld was basically the doorstep for the Core. They could already see a Sith fleet laying siege to Brentaal and turning the planet into a battlefield. The way the ISC was able to avoid conflict with the SIth was something that the Brentaalan nobles wanted.

After Galek finished his question, Sibyl put her cup on the table and looked directly to him “I’ll not lie, Brentaal desires to be part of the ISC due to its exponential growth and to avoid being attacked by the Sith. The way that they appeared in Firrerre, shows that they can easily pass through planetary defenses. In exchange for our acceptance, the Brentaal Houses offer the services of our trade guilds and the same benefits related to trade that members of the Republic have in our planet. Of course, the ISC would also have as a member the planet with one of the largest economies of the Galaxy and with a strategic position.

Galek nodded when Sibyl spoke about the tea, a polite smile brushing across his features. Even if the box they were drinking from didn’t cost the woman a fortune at the time, it certainly did now. “Well in that case, here is to special occasions.” He raised his cup towards her in toast, taking one more ship.

He listened silently as Sibyl spoke, pressing the rim of his teacup to his lips several times over the course of her speech, largely dispassionate the entire time. While his face was difficult to read at that moment, internally, Galek was exceptionally pleased with the current turn of events.

Of all the different ways that this trip to Brentaal could’ve gone, this was undoubtedly the best possible option. Sibyl was, quite frankly, serving out everything Galek wanted out on a silver platter, and the Induparan hadn’t needed to do a single thing thus far. Not only did Brentaal boast one of the largest economies and an important strategic position, but the planet was among the Core Founder’s of the Republic. If Brentaal could leave the Republic, who is to say other Core Worlds would not follow in their lead?

The Induparan was silent for a while after Sibyl spoke, drumming the fingers of one hand against the table. He casually sipped down the last of the tea in his as he thought, gently placing the ceramic back onto its saucer when he was done.

With that, he finally broke the silence between the two of them, once more flashing a bright smile. “Well, I see no reason to draw out the suspense unnecessarily. The ISC would be honored to accept Brentaal into its ranks. As a member-planet, Brentaal will be entitled to the same protections, privileges, and responsibilities as any other - and you will have the full backing of our government from this day forth."

Galek finally rose from his seat. He casually smoothed the Sherwani sash on his shoulder, extending a hand out to shake Sibyl’s. “Should you accept, allow me to be the first to welcome you, Governor Lassiter, into the Independent System’s Consortium.”

Sibyl raised her cup towards Galek. Of course this occasion was special, it was going to be a pivotal moment for the ISC. They would now have as a member one of the richest planets of the Galaxy and the doorway to the Core. In exchange the Brentaal Houses would have the stability that they desire so much.

The Induparan Governor could be silent and emotionless during all the time that the Brentalaan spoke, but she knew very well that he was only maintaining a calm appearance. After all, Sibyl does it all the time. Internally the Prince probably was euphoric with her offer.

While she waited for his answer, the Senator continued to sip her tea. She wasn’t nervous with the possibility of him refusing, because only an idiot would refuse Brentaal. So far, Sibyl doesn't think that Galek Ordalos was one. Then, finally he spoke and announced that the ISC would be honored to have her homeworld joining them. Of course they were, with the money and prestige that the planet has its a honor to any state to have it as one of their members .

Sibyl smiled at him, while raising from her seat. "In my name and all of Brentaal, I'm honored to accept it." she extended her hand and shook his. When he called her "Governor Lassiter", the Brentaalan thought that it was really good. Even better than being called Senator. "It'll be a pleasure to work with you, Governor Ordalos." then she remembered something. "By the way, the Brentioch family asked me to say that they want to invite you to dinner. They want to give you a proper welcome to Brentaal. However, I'll understand if you refuse. You probably have more important things to do." she can understand, but it would not stop Caledan Brentioch of throwing a tantrum about that.

Galek flashed Sibyl a warm smile just then, giving her hand a firm shake. He didn’t need to say anything for Sibyl to know that the Induparan was exceptionally pleased with the turn of events. “A pleasure indeed, Governor. I look forward to working with you in the near future.”

There were plenty of other worlds within the Core that were undoubtedly dissatisfied with the Republic, and Galek could think of no better person to negotiate directly with Senator’s from those planets. It was a topic for another time, but something he would doubtlessly bring up soon.

When Sibyl spoke again, Galek eyed her with a curious expression. The prince only vaguely remembered the Brentioch name, connecting it to one of the many noble families of Brentaal. Additionally, he also vaguely remembered the woman’s aide. He blinked a few times, tilting his head to the side.

“I am rather busy,” He admitted, quite a bit of truth to that statement. His schedule was always full as Governor of Indupar. Since becoming Secretary of Intergalactic Affairs, the prince had enough on his plate to keep two people busy.

Nevertheless, diplomatic dinners were an important part of his job. Tedious as they might’ve been.
“But I am sure I can fit the Brentioch’s in for dinner. Please let them know I will be honored to be their guest.”

Galek finally took a step back, giving Sibyl a polite bow of his head. “It has been a pleasure, Governor Lassiter. Thank you for the tea.” With that, the Induparan turned on a heel and began to make his way towards the exit of the garden.
