Cal-doran blinked a bit and then frowned, deeply. He thought for a second. "So I fought to get out of that prison for the purpose of joining a dead Order? The sole purpose of my freedom was to join the Jedi Order in which I had left it; retreating from the battle in which we were likely to be destroyed. We were destroyed anyways? I had heard we were defeated from the Imperial Guards, but... not utterly destroyed..."

He then heard the part about the small scattered groups. "So there is a light, then." He grinned, then raised his head higher. He looked to Ryloss, examining him in full now. "The last time I had heard of a zeltron Jedi he had died of how many booze he had intaken on this very planet after being expelled from the Order for his bad habits." He took out the rest of his crackers, nibbling on them while waiting for an answer.

Ryloss shrugged at Cal's hopes for the Jedi.
"I'm looking for them, actually. It's past time I went home. They definitely aren't gone. Sometimes I hear whispers through the Force, not solid words or anything to lock onto, but enough to confirm they're hiding around somewhere, the bastards."
He said the last two words with a touch of sarcasm. At the tale of the Zeltron Jedi, he laughed.
"Really? I wasn't actually alone there, believe it or not! I was the worst of us, though. I remember for my fourteenth birthday they locked my out of the Temple on probation!"
Ryloss kicked the least damaged Garral corpse.
"You've got any idea if these things are edible? They're a pest, fair game here."

"I wouldn't eat them; they could be carrying any kind of disease. Even genetically engineered animals are prone to rabies or the like." He walked over closer to Ryloss, examining the bodies. "Never hurts to try though."

He thought a minute, frowning again. He reached out through the Force, trying to find high concentrated areas of midichlorians and Force Users. It didn't work. "Is there anywhere the Sith haven't taken over? Some small holdouts?"

Ryloss shrugged.
"Half the galaxy. We could basically piss off the border from here. I heard some Sith units got wiped out further north, but so has basically every attacking force in the past fifteen hundred years there."
He kicked the body again.
"We'll wash it, burn it and wash it again. Shouldn't be too nasty by the end of it.
He pulled out his lightsaber and seared out a huge chunk of breast from the thing. He then pulled off the cloak he was wearing, an old, coarse and heavy travelling thing that wasn't completely filthy. The meat had been cauterized by the lightsaber, so no worries about that.
"We can cook it later. Right now we have..."
He looked up. The sun was already beginning to sink.
"... Four hours of light left. In that we want to move away from the kills, set up a fire, eat and then make a shelter of some kind. There's no way we'll get out of here in four hours."

"If there's only four hours left, we don't have time to eat," said Cal, looking out toward the setting sun. He sighed; he thought he was so close to finding the Jedi, so close to finally being able to be fully free.

He paused; the Force was his freedom, he realized. He needed the Force more than the Jedi...

He shook his head. How dare you think that? The Jedi Order is the salvation, the setting on which the Force should be placed. On which it IS placed. You have to find them. With this Ryloss' help or by yourself. As Father always said; "Never commit yourself to something that you are not going to see yourself through to the very end."

The Jedi looked toward the garral, their corpses laying dead on the swampy terrain. He knew that they did not want to eat him; they needed to to survive on this harsh planet. Just like he needed the Jedi Order to survive in the asperous galaxy in which they lived in.

You need the Jedi... but you also need the Force...

Cal-doran Varmesceance rubbed his temples with one hand, the other one rubbing his coarse beard. He turned to Ryloss. "We'd best get going. The Jedi aren't going to find themselves." He allowed the Force that he had gathered seep out of him, thanking it for assisting him. He took a deep breath and began walking south.

The Force is with me. Forever.
