The Imperial Navy

The Navy is a state of the art machine of war, constructed using money and minds across the galaxy, stemming from various initiatives, some that had their foundations laid with the Bogan in their infancy, others being much more recent. The fleet itself is designed with the best technologies available to be of devastating efficiency. Whilst not as vast as the legions available on the ground, the ships are mainly designed to be faster and more maneuverable than their enemy, to punch holes in lines of battle, deploy their legions on the ground, outpace fleeing enemies and to take advantage of the slower moving enemy.

The ships on the whole are designed slightly smaller than their Hutt and Republic counterparts, but this is not to their detriment. They carry complements of star fighters, bombers and troops, as well as shields that require less energy to protect their smaller surface areas, and powerful broadside and forward facing weapons.

The Navy comprises of 600 capital class vessels (the types of which are outlined below), along with support vessels in the way of corvette, freighter, dropship, fighter and bomber class ships. 500 of these are fighting ships (200 Deus class cruisers, 200 Fulmine class destroyers, 100 Legate class frigates) along with 100 Angel Class carriers. There are also three Imperator class flagship vessels, one belonging to the Emperor, one to the High Lord and one to the Bogan. Although the three in question do not always command the fleets in person, their ships are a symbol of their presence on the battlefield.

The crews of the capital vessels number at around 925,000 naval officers and technicians. Along with support staff piloting corvette, shuttle, freighter, dropship vessels, and manning fighter and bomber squads, the standing personnel of the fleet numbers over 1,000,000.

Ships of the Fleet

Imperator Class Flagships
Length: 1,200m
Crew: 2,500 personnel
Armaments:
- Effective shielding
- Beam cannon
- 36 Turbolaser batteries
- 8 Ion batteries
- 14 missile pods
- Various starfighter/bomber defense laser cannons
Complement:
- 30 starfighters (5 squadrons)
- 18 bombers (3 squadrons)
- Boarding and landing craft
- One Legion (17,500 soldiers)
Details:
Built upon the funding and developments of the initiatives set about from heavy funding from Serenno, the technology utilized in these ships, the first of the Bogan fleet built from scratch, have been used to refit and upgrade the other classes of ship into uniform and effective warships. The beam cannon boasted upon the flagship is more effective and faster to recharge than the equivalent upon the Cruiser, and its broadside is also a powerful advantage. It’s size means, although it is capable of launching devastating punches through enemy lines, as the Bogan fleet does so effectively, it is less maneuverable than the Cruisers and Destroyers, so has to rely upon it’s shielding, defenses and squadrons when maneuvering more so than the smaller counterparts (as they can move out of the line of fire quicker). Like the carriers, these are also capable of carrying an entire legion of the Empire’s troops.

Deus Class Cruiser
Length: 600m
Crew: 1,500 personnel
Armaments:
- Effective shielding
- Beam cannon
- 28 Turbolaser batteries
- 8 Ion batteries
- 12 missile pods
- Various starfighter/bomber defense laser cannons
Complement:
- 30 starfighters (5 squadrons)
- 18 bombers (3 squadrons)
- Boarding and landing craft
- One Battalion (5,355 soldiers)
Details:
These cruisers are designed along the initiatives to provide the appropriate support to the Empire’s ground troops. Each Cruiser is capable of ferrying an entire battalion of troops, along with equipment, for deployment. These make up the heard of the Imperial Fleets and are designed for speed with their punch. Not as fast or as devastating as the destroyer vessels, with larger hulls, stronger shields and larger turbolaser batteries these provide an effective ship in battle and deployment. The beam cannon was a form of ship based plasma weapon based upon the turbolaser. It fired an extended beam of plasma, capable of gutting an unshielded ship from bow to stern. Although potentially devastating, it requires a lot of energy to fire and recharge, so is often used sparingly. It is also only capable of a forward facing arc of fire (although it has some leeway, it only can rotate through around 60 degrees either side of the forward face of the ship). Although the beam cannon is it’s single most powerful weapon, the Cruiser’s fearsome broadside (often with co-ordinated fire between turbo lasers, ion cannons and missiles) is capable of causing enough damage to cripple an enemy vessel and is often preferred in battle to the cannon.

Fulmine Class Destroyer
Length: 400m
Crew: 1,000 personnel
Armaments:
- Effective shielding
- 2 Beam cannons
- 14 Turbolaser batteries
- 4 Ion batteries
- 6 missile pods
- Various starfighter/bomber defense laser cannons
Complement:
- 18 starfighters (3 squadrons)
- Boarding and landing craft
- Five cohorts (2,675 soldiers)
Details:
The destroyers are the real ingenuity within the Bogan fleet. Their size and speed makes foes often underestimate the punch they pack. While not boasting the broadside capability of it’s Cruiser counterpart, the Destroyer’s most devastating weapon is it’s dual beam cannon. With an arc of fire extended to ninety degrees due to the position of the two cannons, and with a 60 degree overlap (the same arc for the single cannon on the cruiser) for a dual blast, the cannons on the destroyer, whilst slightly less powerful than the cruisers, are designed to recharge faster, as they take up a higher percentage of the ship’s energy. There is still an energy concern however, and, like the cruiser, the ship is not capable of operating all weapons, and systems at once. In the hands of the Bogan Empire’s adroit commanders, these ships are devastating. The destroyer is also capable of carrying up to five cohorts of troops for deployment.

Legate Class Frigate
Length: 300m
Crew: 500 personnel
Armaments:
- Effective shielding
- 10 Turbolaser batteries
- 4 Ion batteries
- 6 missile pods
- Various starfighter/bomber defense laser cannons
Complement:
- 12 starfighters (2 squadrons)
- Boarding and landing craft
- Two Cohorts (1,070 soldiers)
Details:
These vessels provide support to the Cruisers and Destroyers in battle, and cover to the carriers. They are the fastest capital ships in the fleet, and although they are lightly armed, if utilized intelligently can be far more of a hazard to enemy starships than they are often considered to be. If required, a frigate can carry up to two cohorts for active deployment.

Angel Class Carrier
Length: 750m
Crew: 750 personnel
Armaments:
- Effective shielding
- 12 Turbolaser batteries
- 4 Ion batteries
- 12 missile pods
- Various starfighter/bomber defense laser cannons
Complement:
- 48 starfighters (8 squadrons)
- 30 bombers (5 squadrons)
- Boarding and landing craft
- One Legion (17,500 soldiers)
Details:
These vessels are designed to carry huge amounts of troops and starfighters in battle. The slowest of the Bogan’s ships, these rarely see front line combat. Occupying more of a support role, these vessels can launch their large complements for defense or assault, and can also be used to bring in troops after assault ships have paved the way for a surface attack. Each carrier can ferry an entire legion of troops.

The fleets of the Bogan Empire are broken down into three, each following one of the three flagships. The Emperor’s is commanded by the Admiral, the High Lord’s by the Vice Admiral, and the Bogan’s by the Rear Admiral. Within these fleets there are several battle groups, each commanded by a Commodore. Although in the order of battle these are regimented in structure, due to the nature of warfare, they are often augmented in terms of size, structure and ships depending upon the mission they are tasked with. As such, on occasion Captains will lead squadrons of ships in battle as well.

Support Vessels and Planetary Defense

The fleet also requires a number of support vessels, including corvettes, shuttles, fighters and bombers, described below. Advanced stealth programmes are also in place and a corvette class has been designed for advanced tactical insertion.

Wolf Class Corvette
Length: 150m
Crew: 15 personnel
Armaments:
- Light shielding
- 2 turbolaser turrets
- 4 missile pods
- A few starfighter/bomber defense laser cannons
Complement:
- A handful of fighters or bombers depending on mission
- Shuttles/Dropships for ferrying personnel
- One company (160 soldiers)
Details:
The corvette is the lightest ship within the Imperial Navy capable of long-range hyperspace travel (although several Dark Jedi and delegates do own their own shuttles capable of long journeys, the standard Imperial shuttle is not designed for pan-galactic travel, but more for system hopping). As such corvettes can be used from anything to ferry small amounts of troops, to dignitaries and visitors in and around the Empire systems. They do not boast much in the way of defenses or shielding, as they are more support and travel vessels, than warships, however their speed can be trusted to get them out of trouble if required. A corvette can ferry a company of troops into battle if required, although depending upon its internal configuration it can be outfitted to ferry an entire cohort for shorter flights.

Shadow-Wolf Class Corvette
Length: 150m
Crew: 20 personnel
Armaments:
- Light shielding
- Advanced stealth systems
- 2 turbolaser turrets
- 4 missile pods
- A few starfighter/bomber defense laser cannons
Complement:
- A handful of fighters or bombers depending on mission
- Shuttles/Dropships for ferrying personnel
- One Company (160 soldiers)
Details:
Based on the frame and design of the standard corvette, the shadow corvette is designed for advanced tactical troop insertion. Its stealth system is one of the best in the galaxy. Although not invisible to the naked eye, it’s systems and matte black surface do make it invisble to scanners. However, the stealth system requires much power to maintain, meaning that although it can travel at close to top speed, its shield and weapons systems cannot be engaged when ‘traveling dark’. Like its counterpart, it can ferry a company of troops.

Charon Class Shuttle
Length: 20m
Crew: 5 personnel
Armaments:
- Light shielding
- Laser turrets
- A few starfighter/bomber defense laser cannons
Complement:
- Three platoons (80 soldiers)
Details:
The shuttle is designed both to ferry personnel in peace and war. A number of these shuttles have been fitted with heavier armaments than listed for hot landings in battle, or even as boarding craft in space. A shuttle in battle can fit up to three platoons for insertion. This is the smallest ship of the Imperial armed forces to boast a hyperdrive, but it is not designed for pan galactic travel, instead for shorter flights, or system hopping within the Empire.

Dragonfly Class Dropship
Length: 15m
Crew: 3 personnel
Armaments:
- Laser turrets
- Slugthrower turrets
- Two missile tubes
Complement:
- One platoon (26 soldiers)
Details:
The dropship is designed for hot insertions in the heat of battle. Fast moving and with a healthy armament, these can clear landing zones and provide air support to the infantry they land. Capable of short space flights, they can also be used as boarding craft in battle. The troop bay can fit a platoon of troops for quick insertion. These ships do not carry hyperdrives.

Ares Class Fighter
Length: 8m
Crew: 1 pilot
Armaments:
- Light shielding
- 2 laser cannons
- 2 missile tubes
Details:
A versatile starfighter, these are designed to escort larger ships and bombers, and to dogfight, these are launched from larger ships, usually in squadrons. While they do not boast a hyperdrive, they are well powered, and as such capable of maintaining a light deflector shield whilst also maintaining the engines and cannons. They also carry a payload of missiles to pack a punch to small ships that they have locked, or even larger ships that their cannons have little effect on.

Vulcan Class Bomber
Length: 10m
Crew: 1 pilot, 1 bombadier
Armaments:
- Light shielding
- 2 laser cannons
- 2 fixed missile tubes
- 2 turreted missile tubes
Details:
Based on a similar design to the Imperial fighter, the larger bomber is less maneuverable, but is more durable and packs a much larger punch. Designed to cripple the vital systems of unshielded enemy ships with their missiles, or to overload the shield systems themselves in the first place, the ventral missile turret is controlled by the bombadier and fires a heavier payload than the fixed tubes, which (along with the lasers) are at the control of the pilot. The turret is the main advantage of these bombers, with its large arc of fire it is capable of dishing out repeated strikes before having to refill its payload. In coordinated squads, these bombers can devastate enemy capital ships.

Planetary Defense
The Empire also has in place a series of planetary defenses, in different strengths and concentrations across various planets of the Empire. These defenses include surface shielding over important locations and bases, as well as orbital defense platforms, both powered by planet-side generators. The orbital defense cannons are based on the beam cannon technology and were in fact the first step in the development of the weapon. With the advanced generators, the platforms can maintain basic shielding from attack, along with their light starfighter defense lasers and charge the cannon. Although a section of the shield must be temporarily dropped to fire a round, the gunners are experts with their timing and only let the shield drop for the briefest of moments. The cannon is more powerful than anything found on the ships, with a greater range, and a faster recharge rate, all possible from the planet-side generators that produce power outputs that dwarf the largest ships reactors. Coordinated fire between several of these platforms can mean attacking the Bogan Empire’s protected worlds is practically suicide.

Ranks of the Imperial Navy

Admiral
This is the most senior rank in the navy. The Admiral serves upon the Emperor’s personal ship and commands the fleet. When the Emperor is present, the Admiral stand’s at the god’s side and sees his will done. Although he has overall command of the navy, in practice he is responsible for the Emperor’s fleet, about a third of the ships in the Bogan Navy.

Vice Admiral
The Vice Admiral is the second highest rank in the Navy. He is second only to the Admiral. He stands upon the bridge of the High Lord’s flagship and commands the second fleet, roughly one third of the Imperial Naval forces.

Rear Admiral
The third in command of the navy, and in charge of the final third of the Imperial Nave, the Rear Admiral leads from the bridge of the Bogan’s flagship.

Commodore
This is the highest rank an officer can expect to reach in his career. A commodore is a senior member of the navy and a capable commander. He will direct not only his own ships, but a squadron or battle group in battle. He will hold command from one of the Imperial Cruisers.

Captain
This is the rank of a relatively senior naval officer. Although in theory a Captain will be a ship commander, in practice, capable captains will often lead squadrons on missions on battle, and will command from either a cruiser or destroyer, depending upon their assignment and preference. Captains are also often assigned to the bridges of carriers, despite their low standing in the order of battle, their importance requires a competent commander.

Commander
A Commander is the lowest rank of a capital ship commander in the navy. They command frigates, or smaller support vessels. They may even serve higher ranking officers as XOs on larger ships.

Lieutenant Commander
Typically executive officers of larger ships, this is a position of command, but not one of absolute command. Gaining invaluable experience in this role is essential in an officer’s career before becoming a ship commander. They may also command gun battery or fighter decks personally on the larger ships of the fleet. Lieutenant Commanders have also been known to serve as the commanding officers of gunboats or corvettes. Whilst not technically capital class vessels, these support vessels are important to the day to day workings of the fleet and their crews do an important job.

Lieutenant
Often these officers serve upon the bridge or technical areas of the capital ships. Responsible for everything from weapons and shields to engines and life-support, these are everywhere throughout the fleet, doing their jobs and learning the trade of command.

Junior Lieutenant
This is the lowest rank a bridge officer can be, and more often than not these will find themselves manning all sorts of systems and terminals across a ship. Being given this rank is a responsibility however, there is little dogs-work here and the first step along the path of command is taken with this rank.

Ensign
The lowest rank of the naval personnel, these newcomers to the ships undergo training to learn their trade and then are put to work on ships, doing everything from ship’s maintenance, to manning any understaffed crew rotation. It may not be glamorous, but even the Admirals started with these lowly jobs, once.
