The sound of the half-Sephi’s baritone laughter was something that he could never get enough of even now. It made the Axxilan happier than he could put into words, and it was clearly reflexed in each of his characteristic giggles, snorts and wheezes for air. He looked up from his menu when Emryc spoke again, giggling a bit more when the half-Sephi started to cough before shaking his head at the words.
“If you can stomach watching me eat some kebabs on Tattooine, I think I can handle seeing you scratch your ass.” He flashed a playful grin. He clearly remembered the horrified expression on the half-Sephi’s face back on Tattooine while he happily munched.
He was already half-way into his spiraling ramble when Emryc interjected, pausing briefly when the half-Sephi corrected him on the temple origin. “Ahem, we found a mound. Of unknown, questionable origin.” No it wasn’t. That mound was very clearly of Kiliki origin, with no room for debate, and both of them knew it. Nevertheless, attempting to get the Axxilan to openly admit it wasn’t likely going to happen. He grinned slyly towards Emryc when he spoke again, commenting on his attempt to by slick. “Was worth a shot,”
Jaikus attempted to be the gentleman by pouring, the bottle exploded in his face, and the Axxilan looked mortified. Emerald eyes went comically wide at that moment and the tomato-red color spread to every inch of his face. There was an almost defeated look on Jaikus face up until the moment Emryc rose from his seat, emerald eyes following the half-Sephi as he stepped in close.
Rather than letting him stew in his own embarrassment or making some witty remark, the half-Sephi had wordlessly, Jaikus watched as Emryc suddenly reached towards the bottle, smearing some of the skill alcohol onto his own face. Just as expect, that ridiculous, giddy smile quickly worked its way onto Jaikus’ lips – the embarrassment quickly fading from his expression.
It was a gesture that was loving and tender in ways that Jaikus couldn’t describe, and he couldn’t help but simply stare at the half-Sephi emerald eyes filled with nothing but love and affection for his partner. For the man that Jaikus had come to love more than anyone else in his life.
Jaikus leaned in and melted against that quick kiss, tasting his partners lips and a bit of the champagne that was smeared across his skin. He savored it for as long as he could before Emryc drew back, grabbing up the napkin to wipe them both off. “I love you,” He muttered softly.
The Axxilan sat back down after that, jostling his dampened curls a bit before picking up his glass. He clinked it against Emryc’s, taking a long sip from the flute. He paused for a moment when the half-Sephi mentioned Telos. It was something that had lingered in the back of Jaikus’ mind for weeks, but something the two of them had never broached following Emryc’s injuries. “I never had any desire to go back there.” He finally answered. “I never talked about what I found on Telos, after we parted ways. It’s something I should have.”
“After you left, I traveled deeper into the temple and came across two artifacts. A crown, and a set of ancient scrolls written in Ur-kittat – speaking of some kind of summoning ritual. They were arcane in nature, and I couldn’t make sense of them, so I brought them to naturally took them to Andruil.” He paused for a moment, taking a drink from his flute. “We did some digging on Lothal and Devaron, found what we believed to be a key, but the trail went cold for months, and I thought that was the end of it."
The Axxilan paused just then, watching as the droid waiter returned - placing down the plate of roasted eggplant and duck breast onto the table in front of the two men. Jaikus nodded towards the droid, waiting until it left before he continued. “It wasn’t until after we left that temple, recently, that the Empress contacted me and I learned that the trail led back to Telos.“ He frowned a bit just then. “I wanted to contact you before pursuing the scrolls any further. I wanted you to be a part of it. The only reason I went to Telos when I did, was to intercept the Jedi, before they could claim the ruins.”
“The fighting broke out after that. The Empress fought the Jedi Grandmaster. I encountered that Dathomirian witch from Felucia,” He tapped his finger against his glass, pausing for a moment. “And then I felt when you were injured on Dantooine.” He frown a bit deeper, exhaling softly. There was a distinct pain that manifested on the Axxilan’s features just then, once more reminded of the pain he had felt through their Force bond, and the panic he had felt in those moments.
It was the second time since that incident back at the cave that Jaikus truly feared that he had lost his partner, and once again had been helpless to do anything about it.
“A jedi,” Or whatever the hell Byron had come in his final moments, “Got in my way, and was eliminated because of it.” It was one of the few times Jaikus truly gave himself completely to the darkness - allowing it to wash over as he put an end to Byron. “I left Telos after that.”
In the moment, Jaikus hadn’t even given a second thought to the fallen Jedi - even as the man turned to ash before his very eyes. The man was an obstacle in his path, blocking him from getting to the one thing that truly mattered. It was only now, weeks after the incident, that Jaikus had given any thought to the vicious way that he had dispatched the Jedi - something that stuck with him more than it should have.
He reached forward just then, moving to place a hand over the top of Emryc's. “I did what I had to do, in order to find you after Dantooine.”
