The Nar Shaddaa Open

To celebrate the ascension of Addipos the Hutt, Eldest of all the Hutts, Restorer of Rothana, Great Broker of Deals, Mentor of Many Lords, Elder of the Clan Desilijic, to Grand Lord of the Hutt Cartel, a great gladiatorial tournament has been organized, with the opening matches to be held on Nar Shaddaa. The matches will progress until one remains, as the greatest Gladiator in Hutt Space. All participants will be greatly rewarded, with those who make it to the final matches being given the most lavish imaginable. The matches will likewise be highly publicized, and betting allowed, added encouragement to the fighters to ensure they don't do anything that would be embarrassing for the rest of the galaxy to see.

It is Addipos expectation that these games be extremely bloody. Those matches that are drawn out, bitter fights, with many great moments for re-watching will see the participants rewarded even further. Those that are over quickly, or show no great amount of violence may see their rewards revoked.

The matches themselves will be held in the Avonasak Stadium, a large pyramid shaped structure in the entertainment district, not far from Calrissian Hall and the Promenade. The stadium has seating for 250,000 spectators, and the arena itself is suspended in midair by repulsorlifts. Although the word arena might be a bit of misnomer, as it's actually multiple, self contained, fighting areas for each match to take place simultaneously.

Each arena is relatively small*, transparent with an anti-glare coating to prevent flashes of light from the crowd from interfering with the fighters, with lights to indicate a standard floor layout (i.e a rectangle divided in half by a line, with s small circle divided by the same line in the center), and lighting to allow the competitors to see what they're doing. The materials used to make the floating arena's are not lightsaber proof, but are generally proofed against smalls fire so competitors aren't blowing themselves out of it by accident.

Each arena is well ventilated, with the walls being made of a porous material to prevent gasses from building up inside, making such attacks pointless, as they really aren't that great for a sport where people enjoy watching the visuals. Each arena is equipped with a dedicated repulsor unit, and tractor beams are built into the ceiling of the complex to catch any that become damaged, letting them fall at a gentle pace to the ground below.

The Matches

Each match is a 1 vs 1 fight, and there are going to be eight matches total. Four of these matches will be death-enabled (note that, that doesn't mean you have to kill the other person), and four will not be. The no-death threads will not be allowed to advance to the next level of the tournament. In all cases we will attempt to pair force-user's with force-user's, and character's of similar power levels with each other, but we cannot guarantee that this will always be the case.

In order to win a match all one has to do is knockout their opponent.

Rewards

The winners of the death-enabled matches will receive a J-15B Aetherspite Starfighter, 50,000 credits, and advancement to the next round of the tournament.

The losers of the death-enabled matches will receive 50,000 credits.

The winners of the no-death matches will receive a Hawk class speeder, and 10,000 credits.

The losers of the no-death matches will receive 10,000 credits.

Rules

The following weapons may not be used in a match.

1. Lethal Grenades
2. Missile Launchers. Recoiless Rifles, RPG's, or any variation thereof
3. Slugthrowers
4. Weaponry heavier than a man portable light blaster cannon.

This is Star Wars, we want to see people using Star Wars stuff for matches, not boring real world retreads, or powergaming weapons which are only really designed to win more than they are to tell a story. This is all about the space fantasy, rule of cool, that makes the site as amazing as it is. Not painful PvP threads with dozens of pages OOC going over specifics that no one cares about.

IC-wise, this is about visuals. These matches are being broadcasted, and bet upon. Heavier weaponry renders them moot, and slugthrowers look really freaking boring compared to the more Star Warsy stuff.

In order to sign up for the tournament please respond with the following information.

NAME: Please give the name your character will go by the matches. If they're using an alias please give us that instead, and feel free to make up a moniker.

LINK TO PROFILE: If you say "in sig" or any variation thereof, you will not be signed up.

And that's it!

Participants may come from any faction that the Cartel currently enjoys good relations with, or be independent, but preference will be given to Cartel members. This will not be on a first come, first serve basis, as we're attempting to ensure each fight is as even as possible.

*The dimensions for each arena is roughly half an American football ball field, by a quarter of an American football field, as tall as the goalpost on an American football field (45.72 meters long, 22.86 meters wide, 12.192 meters tall).
