The Light, The Dark

When I was a young man, I was inducted into a strange and draconian cult. There, I learned of that which you call the Force in a perverted form. The sorcerers taught us that the Force was a force of Life, therefor our enemy. We used that which was beyond life - death, chaos, destruction. The end of chapters giving them evermore mystic power. But after I was given to the Sith, I learned of another point of view. That which the Sorcerers of Rhand called The Dark was not separate from the Force of Life, but rather - a part of it. A macabre pendulum swinging ever backward and forwards, dooming some while preferring others.

The Sith believed that seizing control through the Force gave them power. That knowledge, wisdom, and all other aspects were subservient to one’s desires and ambitions. Above all else, the Sith desire power, they stop at nothing to achieve it. Even if that meant regularly killing their own - sometimes those they considered brothers in arms, others slaying their mentors to claim their title. A meritocracy driven by attrition and subterfuge.

But then, our enemies were so different. The Jedi were not as the Sorcerers of Rhand or the Sith. These were beings of purity that, instead of seeking control, regularly allowed the Force to dictate their actions. Living vessels for it’s benevolence, peace and mercy. Though I fought at first, I emerged realizing just how difficult it actually was to hate a Jedi. They stood by their conviction and did that which they believed they should. In many ways, I came to respect them.

Over time, they became allies, and slowly my perception on the Galaxy shifted - now resting clearly at an answer I now write with upmost certainty. The Force, in and of itself, is neither good nor evil. Neither, in my opinion, is any ability it grants you. The difference between the Light and Dark comes down entirely to your intentions.

Historically, it has been recorded that Grandmaster Skywalker regularly befuddled his opponents by tricking their mind into believing they were choking. While this did no harm to the individual; it disabled them long enough to allow escape or disarmament. Not dissimilar to the Sith utilization of Force Choke. But I theorize that even if Skywalker had telekinetically seized his opponent’s throats - it would not have been a dark act.

If his intention was only to disable, not to cause harm or slay his opponent, then by the Jedi’s philosophy the ability is sound and safe to use. If, per say, I was attacked with lightning and decided to counter with a blast of my own - it could be considered dark in nature. But my intentions - to kill, or to disable - determine the alignment of the act in question. If this posited theory is true, then the Jedi have at their disposal an arsenal of tools the Sith would never anticipate or expect, if only they can adjust their utilization to match their pacifism.

I myself will test this theory in the field at the next given chance. This was has gone on too long, it’s time I get back into the fight.
