Why was she being grabbed by the shoulders and shook like a ragdoll dummy? She didn't want to wake up, she was having fun with her class dreams.

Then whomever was shaking her decided to shout right in front of her sensitive ears.

Her eyes shot open, and she was met with a less-than-pleasant sight; clearly, a monster had taken her. This was it. This is how she will perish. Not while fighting the Sith or doing some great feat. No. The swamp creatures had gotten to her. In some ways, a very typical way to die for her. Clove let out a gasp and shuffled back for a second at the sight. Then something clicked when she recognized those dark eyes. It wasn't a swamp monster, but a backpack kidnapper (@Wit).

Almost just as bad as a swamp monster.

Clove rubbed her eyes with her right palm, confused, and took a closer look at Kal. To put it mildly, he looked like crap. "Ugh. Sorry, you startled me." She murmured, her voice nasal due to what used to be her nose. "... Is that some kind of medicine?" The half-Sephi took one long look at Kal's baldy patchy head coated in this odd purple slimy fluid before switching her focus to the rest of the Jedi in the wagon. Kal and Thelian were the most clearly hurt Padawans—in fact, Thelian's hand was missing a couple of fingers and was coated with burns.

With a curse in her native tongue and a grunt, Clove slowly pushed her upper body off the ground and began to sit up. That action was enough to alert her to her pounding nose and a new stream of blood rushing down her nostril, but oddly enough it wasn't as painful as she'd imagined. She raised both hands to her nose, and it was then that she saw her left hand. To put it mildly, those fingers weren't vertically aligned anymore, and there was blood everywhere.

A large part of her wanted to scream at the sight, but something about the lack of pain mixed with the abnormality of the finger position was strangely interesting.

Regardless, she lifted her glance to Kal before slowly rising to her feet. "Okay. Here's the plan— Oh chaos realm, I'm dizzy." Clove stumbled for a second to regain her footing before shaking her head. "Ugh. Okay. The strategy. We remove my backpack off your shoulders, and I begin repairing my left hand as soon as possible. Then I run over to Thelian and help him. When that's done, I'll go back to you and help you with your head." Regardless if Kal agreed or not, she approached him and yanked his left strap downward with her right hand. A little click sounded through the caravan, and the robust strap undid itself. She repeated the same with the right strap, and unless she was stopped, she slipped the bag down his back and put it on the ground.

Wait. Why did it have a tongue on the back? Ugh. There is no time to question that.

She crouched in front of the huge backpack and took her overstuffed medical kit from it. She fumbled through the kit on top of her thighs until she found a couple of bandages and some disinfecting wipes. She also took a little ruler from her purse and began cleaning it with one of the wipes. When everything was clean, she wiped the wipes over her fingers and carefully proceeded to bend each finger back into position before taping them together.

To be honest, the odd pain medication that someone had given her through the Force had begun to wear off, and very rapidly at that. Clove's cheeks were streaked with tears, and she had bitten her bottom lip so fiercely that her teeth left an imprint. Still, she fought through the pain while it was still bearable, unaware that another type of pain medicine was onboard the caravan, and successfully wrapped her fingers together. She used the ruler as a makeshift splint against the back of her hand and wrist, then wrapped a long gause roll over it, locking it in place and limiting her finger motions. Working with one hand made things a little more challenging, but she got the job done. For the most part.

Her nose would be a concern another day, but for now, a fast wipe with the disinfectant wipe to kill any bacteria and a quick adhesive bandage to halt most of the bleeding would do.

The next step was Thelian's hand.

The caravan had come to a halt before she could reach him, and Thelian (@Altaris) was already heading away towards the exit. She followed him as fast as she could, carrying her medical pack underneath her arm and grabbing a purple medicine bottle from the shelf on her way. She had no clue what it was, but Kal used it, and Thelian's hand was also purple, so clearly it was useful. "Wait, Thelian! Hold up!" She ignored whatever grumpiness or quiet he may have thrown at her and came to a stop in front of him. "Look. You need medical help, and it will be painful. Sorry. However, your fingers genuinely need some bandaging before the open wounds get infected, at which point you would lose your entire hand. You are free to slap me or whatever if it hurts, but please avoid the nose."

If the distant Padawan would allow her, she'd take a clean disinfection wipe and begin gently rubbing it over the burns, any open wounds and missing fingers. It stung like a thousand needles piercing his flesh at the same moment, just as she had warned him. Thankfully the majority of the wounds were cauterized because of the acid. Still, she took a little glob of emergency bacta salve and massaged it into his hand, then reapplied the mystery purple potion on top of the bacta once his skin was clean and covered. Thankfully, bacta was a reliable medication, so she didn't have to worry about a mystery potion messing things up. Or so she hoped. So she reasoned that, at worst, the bacta or mystery potion would stop working.

And if she was wrong, she'd notice it quickly enough anyway and could help him.

She began wrapping his stumpy fingers in a bandage and gauze once everything seemed to be safe. "I'm sorry, but I can't make your fingers return if they've burnt off. I hope I didn't hurt you too much. I need to go and help the other boy now— sorry." Clove gave Thelian an almost insecure look before turning around to go back to Kal.

If she had to be honest, the world was spinning a little and her legs were very unsteady, but she decided she could relax and recover from her wounds once the badly injured individuals had been taken care of.

Finally, she returned to Kal (@Wit). "I'm afraid I can't... fix your hair problem. But, um, uhm. Let's just clean it up, add more purple goo, and patch up any wounds. Just to keep any swamp bacteria away. Plus bald is a good look. Uhm. I have some bacta remaining, but not very much, so we won't use it right now until the burn becomes unbearable, okay? So let me know." She offered Kal a tired grin. Because she was so small, reaching for his head was awkward, but if he allowed her, she began to brush away the purple slime and clean his burnt flesh. After everything was cleaned, she reapplied the purple goo and massaged it into his skin. She proceeded to examine his scalp and face for any evident open wounds after the burns were nicely treated. Anything she discovered she wrapped up with a little anti-stick sterile gauze bandage and few plasters.

"Okay... That should be that. I'm going to do a round of bandage checks before finding a place to lie down. Thank you for keeping my stuff safe, umm, what was your name again? Kal, right? Pretty sure it's Kal." Clove gave another weak smile as she walked out of the wagon and towards the camp the Padawans were creating, her bag trailing behind her. She was far too tired to carry it correctly.

Clove looked over the Padawans for a time, now checking for any minor wounds that the Padawans could treat themselves if they had the proper equipment. And, by the looks of it, it was Zana (@Sreeya) and Toki (@Toki Ketra) who were still a little bloodied.

The half-Sephi approached the fluffy-looking padawan first while fighting back a sigh. She just wanted to sleep. But still, she took a quick look at the scratches and decided he'd be alright on his own. "Here's a bandage for your wound. Simply clean it with this wipe and then patch it up." She explained to Toki while providing him two decently sized bandages and a disinfecting wipe.

She then turned around and walked over to Zana. It was a sight for sore eyes to see her still chippy and somewhat cheery... ish... And it was enough to bring back her worn smile. "Hey, Za. I've got some stuff for your arm. Please let me know if you want any help with it." The half-Sephi gave the Twi'lek a few bandages and a disinfecting wipe as well. "I'm going to find a quiet place to sit for a bit. Sorry for not being of more help." Her smile softened and became more apologetic.

Clove re-opened her medicine kit and took a look inside when she finally got the chance to rest against a tree near the Caravan. The majority of the supplies had already been used, and while there were still bandages, gauses, wipes, and bacta left, there wasn't enough to support another wave of Padawans. With a worried sigh, she closed the kit and placed it into her backpack before shutting her eyes for a few moments to relax.

Wasn't there a big guy in the cart next to the wall of weird medicines and potions? Eh. Who cares.

Felis' eyes narrowed at Thelian's outburst. "Hey super reflexes, take a pill." (@Altaris ) She gestured around at the muddy trail like it should be painfully obvious. "It's not like he had a wide open hyperlane to work with here. Let's see you avoid a giant group of eleven people on a muddy trail, behind a bend, while going at breakneck speed in an animal drawn, wooden wagon to avoid being eaten by giant frog penises." Thelian's attitude grated on her more than she'd expected. True, he was injured and in pain, and they were in a less than ideal situation, but some of what he was saying was just plain jerky.

She then turned at jabbed a finger at the merchant. "As for you, mister, you owe those people you sent into orbit more than a quick apology and a couple bottle of free medicine." Her face softened a touch. "We're strangers here, we had an accident passing through, and everyone is sore and stressed and worked up. Truth is we know nothing of where we are, and we need help."

Her bottom lip turned out in a pout and she looked at the merchant with big, innocent eyes. "We'd really appreciate as much help and information as you can give. It's the least you could do for us, right?"

¹. d20 perception roll to notice Grem might not be telling everything. Success on 12 or higher.
Grem stayed silent and watched as the various wounded took his potions without much hesitation, something he was glad for. The potions were likely stronger than any medicine these folks had ever used, and under normal circumstances they’d have been quite expensive, especially because his were actually real. There were many snake oil peddlers wandering the swamp roads on Belkadan but Grem was not one of them, at least most of the time.

When @Varyn Atrix approached to speak to Grem, the young Jedi would be greeted with a nod of the head and a genuine, if small, smile.

Just Grem is fine, my boy. He said with a chuckle. The swamps are always dangerous, lad. Generally speaking, though, staying on the road usually means avoiding most of it. There are some villages and hamlets littered along the route to the big city you see off in the distance there. Haderion’s still a full day or more’s ride from here, though.

Grem paused for a moment, contemplating exactly how to answer Varyn’s question about the swamp monsters. He wouldn’t outright lie, of course, but there was the truth and then there was the half-truth. This confliction would likely paint itself on Grem’s face, something Varyn would be able to notice if he were paying attention¹.

They used to only stick to the deep swamp, far away from the roads. They’ve been more aggressive as of late, though, and no one knows why. Grem said with a shrug.

Looking to another who called him Mr. Grem, the tubby caravanner gave @Issyl Damol the same smile he’d given to Varyn before picking up a bottle of the purple liquid she’d just applied to herself.

This one? He asked, holding up the bottle to his eye and peering through it. I believe this one is honeysuckle, ice wraith’s teeth, and bear fat. With just a dash of quicksilver. Of course, Grem was talking about alchemy, though it didn’t occur to him Issyl might have no idea what that is.

Before he could continue, another one of the group spoke up, though his tone and demeanor was much more.. aggressive and upset than either of the others Grem had talked to thus far. The portly salesman let the child vent his anger without interruption, though he couldn’t help but chuckle at the angst.

I’m sorry you’re hurt, lad. But need I remind you that you were the ones standing in the middle of the road gawking like wide-eyed does. Grem chuckled again, ready to give the pale kid a piece of his mind, when another of the group spoke up and said it more eloquently than he would have.

You don’t need the doe eyes to convince me, lass. He said to @Felis Tivor, rolling his own playfully. You kids helped me, so I will help you in what ways I can. That’s how the people of Belkadan get by, after all. I can offer passage on my caravan and will answer what questions you have, if I can.

When the caravan moved to a stop and a voice called out to make camp, Grem would look around and sigh. He had food enough for a night or two, but if the group ran into any slow downs they’d likely run out sooner than later. For now, though, he wouldn’t worry about that.

Before he could do much else, a bright-haired girl younger than all the rest burst into the caravan, a look of child-like wonder quickly spreading across her face as she took in all of the shiny things inside. Grem chuckled as she picked up a bottle of red liquid, walking over to her and arching one of his eyebrows.

And how do you know what alcohol is, young one? He asked @Maura Starwalk before giving her a knowing wink. This one isn’t medicine, no. It’s what we call Dragon’s Breath, a dangerous potion for the inexperienced. Come on, I’ll show you what it does.

Heading outside, Grem would go to one of the outside compartments of his caravan and slide out a large metal ring. Placing it on the ground a few yards away from the caravan, he’d then go back to a different compartment and gather six or seven logs, motioning with a jerk of his head for Maura to grab a few handfuls of kindling.

Chucking the logs into the center of the ring, Grem would tell Maura to throw in the kindling before opening the stopper on the Dragon’s Breath and swigging some. After a few moments, Grem would inhale deeply before blowing air out of his mouth. But instead of simple air, there would be a stream of bright orange fire.

The logs were set ablaze instantly, casting a warm orange glow on the gloominess of the swamp around them. Nights in the swamp were surprisingly cool, so the fire was both a necessary and welcome thing for most.

Looking down to Maura with a child-like smirk, Grem gave her a wink before putting the stopper back in the bottle and discreetly handing it to her. Never know when that might come in handy, young one. Might be best to keep it a secret, though. The pale one who was yelling earlier seems the type to have a stick up his ass and might not let you keep it.

Taking a seat on a large stone near the fire, Grem would stay up for awhile in case anyone wanted to ask any questions, the light of the fire casting a shadow much larger and different than the man sitting danced behind him.

Unbeknownst to the group, things moved and slithered past the long glow of the fire, out in the inky dark of the swamp.

Toki began to feel the pain ease as the medicine took effect. It was strong, but he knew the nature of medicine. Tensions were starting to boil over with some of the people here, namely Thelian. Given the state of his injuries, however, it was hard to blame him. Still, he hoped things would settle down soon and once they find a way to get out of this situation they would be able to get everyone the medical treatment they all needed.

"Ah..." He looked at Clove as she brought him medical supplies. He bowed his head in gratitude "Thank you very much. Please, get some rest when you're all finished handing out supplies." He said. She had been through a lot already and didn't want her to strain herself. He winced slightly as he took off the top part of his tattered robes. The disinfectant wipes burned against his injuries as he gently wiped them down. Once he was properly cleaned and disinfected, he started to wrap the roll of bandages along his torso, making sure to get a few layers across each of the cuts. The movement required was a little straining, but he was doing just fine. With another loop, he tied the bandages down and slipped his robe back on. With a sigh, he leaned back, glad to have that all treated for now.

Toki had some self-reflection to do. He froze up and panicked at his first misstep, and that was something he could not allow to happen again. He needed to learn how to stay calm and focused. Yes, he was afraid and nervous, but what is courage without fear? He knew from lectures that strong emotion, especially fear, can lead to the Dark Side. To him, emotions were invaluable to living a healthy life. To lock them up or dampen them constantly was only setting up a ticking time bomb. However, learning to cope with them and control them at critical moments...that's the important lesson he feels he needs to learn.

He stood up and took it easy as he took a look around the caravan. So many interesting wares and items strewn about, and surprisingly spacious. No wonder he couldn't stop very easily...with enough momentum, something of this size would be extremely hard to control.

He spotted Severus and worried for the pain he was in. He didn't see him take any of the medicine, so he grabbed another one of the yellow bottles and walked out of the caravan to hand it to him "It's safe...I took some and the pain's starting to ease. I hope you're doing alright overall." He said, still feeling a little insecure talking to people. "Take it easy and rest as much as you can, okay?" He said with a slight smile. ( @Charles )

He watched as Grem lit the fire with some kind of brew that made him exhale flame...he knew there were ways to utilize flames through the Force, but this was different, and very interesting. What kind of things existed on this planet to allow for such a concoction? Either way, he felt at ease with the fire lit, though he couldn't shake his nerves. There were going to be more hardships before they would get off this planet, and he had to make sure he and the others were ready to tackle them. "Keep taking these steps...with each one you get closer to the peak..." He muttered to himself as a little bit of self-encouragement.

He took out a few packs of rations and some water containers "I-if anyone's hungry or thirsty, I brought along some rations and water. We'll have to be a little careful how we split it all but it should be enough for a little while."

Severus nodded to the Lepi, who was kind enough to give him a remedy to relieve his pain. "Thank you, Toki. I'm managing, actually. Might take the second shift seeing as I probably shouldn't sleep for a while. I'll see if I can relax, at the very least. Concussions and broken ribs are not fun." He probably wouldn't be able to do much guard work but he could at least scream bloody-murder if any of those crotch-mouths showed up again. He was wide awake anyway, so it probably would've been alright.

"I usually look to Ataru with disdain..." He said with a sigh. "But with your performance from earlier...I think it could make one hell of a Jedi out of you one day. Look into it, if you can." He noted as he took a few sips of the very strange tasting potion of sorts but left a little bit of it left at the bottom and put it into his pack. Severus never enjoyed the whole acrobatic philosophy of Ataru simply because you needed a big open space in order to properly use it. Since others were bringing it up, Severus though he might mention it to his fellow Padawan.

Because of that minor set back, Severus began learning about Soresu and Djem So instead, leaning more to the powerful blows from Djem So. Other than that, you had to match a specific build in order to always be able to use Ataru and Severus didn't fit that build at all. Though Toki was much taller and probably weighed more, his natural agility with those powerful legs of his could benefit the Lepi greatly. On the plus side, Severus could best him more efficiently if he knew Toki was practicing that form- if such an occasion ever arose.

Severus was a little shocked with how quickly the remedy worked, but only stood up a little straighter in case it had short-term effects. He didn't want to be moving around only for the stim to wear off and paralyze Severus with pain. Maybe this 'Grem' character could enlighten Severus on how came across such strange drinks. If not, Severus could use the bit of the yellow substance left for studying in his dorm back on Yavin IV. From there he could figure out which plants were necessary for the brew to be made so he could begin growing them himself.

After hearing Thelian's brief and cruel statement, Severus resented the fact that he agreed with the Echani. Grem's actions were foolish and even if he didn't see the group of eleven children making their way out of the swamp, he could've used that Dragon's Breath of his or some other potion he probably had that enhanced one's physical ability. Severus didn't trust the stranger and silently sided with Thelian's points.

As such, Severus began paying close attention to the stranger, making sure he didn't try and drug them with any of his seemingly endless bottles of liquid. Severus wasn't sure if Grem was hiding anything or not, but was going to continue to keep a close eye on the character just incase.
"Mister Grem, how did you come across these potions? If you made them yourself, I'd like to know a few of your tricks, if that's alright."

Maybe it was that Varyn was still distracted by all of his wounded friends or maybe it was just that he wasn't the most perceptive person when it came to reading other people, but the fact that the man seemed to be hiding something completely escaped the Padawan's notice (@Logan).

He took a look back, unaware of what exactly it was. It didn't look like bacta, but it seemed to be working at least to some extent.

When they had all disembarked, he looked over to Thelian who thanked him. He always seemed to be the gruff type and had already yelled at their 'host' but in his current condition, Varyn really couldn't blame him.

Of course. We're all in this together, if you need help with bandaging or anything, let me know, he said to Thelian (@Altaris). Varyn wasn't exactly a top notch healer or anything, but he was an extra set of hands if nothing else, and sometimes that was half the battle. Thelian didn't seem the type to ask for help, but he saw Clove run after him and force help upon him, which was probably for the best.

Agreed, he said to the other paddie (@Altaria) who said they should probably watch in pairs. Varyn, he said, extending a hand outward for introductions.

He started wandering around the camp area, looking for the best spot to perch up for watch, eventually settling on a fallen tree that gave some small amount of height advantage.

This place is weird, right? he asked, assuming Issyl would sit down next to him. There's something really weird here, I can't put my finger on it, but like... our sabers? What's up with that? he asked, half to her and half to himself.

Eventually they would have to sort out who would be second watch, but that could likely wait until everyone was more or less settled in.

You didn't get injured at all, right? he asked, in the chaos he had missed some of what had happened, and if she needed some sort of medical help it was best not to let it linger.

Kal shrugged noncommittally at Clove's reaction on waking up, looking down on his burnt and goo covered body and expecting his hairless head to look even worse. "Don't worry," he replied, giving the girl a hand to help her up, "I grew up with two sisters, I'm used to little girls thinking I'm a monster." The thought of his siblings brought a smile to his face, which turned a little sad as he realized how much he missed them.

Lost in thought he missed bits of what Clove said, but when she reached up and did something to make the bag suddenly slip loose off his shoulders he almost jumped in pleased surprise. As she started rummaging around in the bag to pull out supplies, he knelt besides her, inspecting the bag, and feeling like an idiot as he studied the clasp that he hadn't spotted or thought to undo when he had been trying to get out of the bag's clasp.

As she raced off to treat the others he dropped to the floor and settled down in a cross-legged pose, absentmindedly fiddling with the clasp, repeatedly opening and closing it as he caught his breath. On Clove's return he nodded at her comments about not being able to do anything about his hair, but accepting her offer for some first aid. "That's fine," he said in response to her comment abbot the bacta, "Save it for later, god knows what else we'll face before we manage to get off world. You seem to be used to this sort of thing, taking care of idiots getting themselves in trouble."

By the time Zana called for a stop, he was pretty tired, and thinking about his family had put him in a rather nostalgic mood. Realizing how close they were to Life Day, and the hot cup of chocolate he would have with his sisters, Kal suddenly felt a very strong need for having a cup himself. For that matter he realized a hot drink might help everyone's spirits. He might not have the ingredients to make hot chocolate, but he could make tea of some sort.

So he wandered off into the surrounding foliage and picked up a few dried twigs and came back to the camp and started working on building a fire in a clear patch of ground. He spent some time trying to light a spark, and the one time he did manage to spark something it flew straight up to land on his shiny head, and suddenly found himself thanking the Force for his baldness. He really did not want to have to run to Clove with his hair on fire, if she or the padawans were anything like his siblings he would never have heard the last of it.

That was when he noticed the caravan owner walk out with the youngling girl, and Kal's hands froze mid strike as he watched the man drink something and literally spit out fire, creating a crackling fire out of nothing. Mouth hanging open, hands mid-strike with two pieces of stone in his hands, Kal blinked a few times before staring down sadly at his pile of kindling, and just throw the pieces of stone away in defeat.

Spotting the little elf-girl though the camp-site, he would pick up a small pebble and toss it at her to get her attention. "I don't suppose you have anything to make tea with in that backpack of yours," he shouted across the fire to her, in earshot of the caravan owner, "I think everyone could do with something hot to drink."

Regardless of his answer, he would turn to Maura. "Thank you for earlier," he said, smiling at her in what probably seemed a super sinister grin to her with his burnt, bald, and patched head, "you really saved me from certain death back there. I owe you!"

So it wasn't alcohol? Maura narrowed her black eyes at the liquid as her hand swirled the contents around. She had secretly hoped it was alcohol so she could try to sneak a taste, but if it wasn't alcohol and it wasn't medicine, then what the heck was Dragon's Breath? 'It's dangerous?' That made her want to know what it was even more, but luckily for her, the man was going to show her!

"Okay!" The kid would promptly follow him outside and watch as he threw out a metal ring and began to gather logs. When he jutted his head towards her, a lightbulb went off for her. 'We're making a firepit!' Quickly, Maura set the potion down on the ground and scurried off to grab more logs and find kindling. Seeing as they were in the midst of a swamp and surrounded by many trees, it wasn't hard for her to do so. After a few minutes, Maura returned with the biggest armful of kindling she could carry and dropped it down onto the pile.

"What's next? What now?" Maura held her breath as Grem took a swig of the potion, then gasped when he exhaled fire.

"WOAH!" Her eyes widened even wider and her jaw dropped as she watched the flame from his breath take hold of the wood in the fire pit. "That's so cool!" She was just about to pounce a million questions on him when he walked back over and slipped the bottle into her hands. The size difference between them made it easy for her to discreetly slip it into her pocket, but there was nothing discreet about the excited look on her face.

It probably would be best to keep it a secret, but there was no way she wasn't going to find a way to play with it. A million ideas were already forming in her head. 'Will it still work if I mix it with water?' As Maura thanked the man and ran off to see what else was going on in the camp, she nearly cackled at the idea of someone thinking they were drinking water only to breathe out fire. 'Ooo... I wonder if it's spicy?' Whenever she ate spicy food her breath always felt a bit hot afterward. 'Hopefully it's not too spicy...' Maura liked spicy food, but not so much that she'd want to feel like she was breathing fire. 'Or what if it's not spicy at all? That'd probably be the weirdest feeling ever!' At that point, she was beyond tempted to just chug the liquid and belch up a maelstrom of flames, but that'd probably lead to someone snatching the bottle away from her.

When Kalam approached her and thanked her, Maura quickly gave the older teen a toothy grin and an expressive thumbs-up.

"No problem! It's a Jedi's duty to protect those who can't protect themselves!" exclaimed the kid. After a moment of looking at him, her expression melted into a mix of concern and disgust. "Also maybe don't smile at people 'til your hair grows back 'cause you look kinda weird." With that, Maura would change her thumbs-up to a peace sign out towards the other padawan and trot off.

Once the rainbow-haired girl was sure no one was paying attention to her, Maura let her backpack slip off her shoulders and traded the Dragon's Breath potion for her datapad. She plopped down on the semi-dry ground next to her bag, powered up the device, and then giggled at the 69% remaining charge on it. She dove back into her backpack and reappeared moments later with the portable charging block. Out of the five lightbulbs that indicated the charge level, only four were lit.

'I should let this charge all the way I think,' she thought to herself as she plugged the datapad into the charger and dropped it back into her pack. Her eyes spanned the makeshift campsite, then landed on a nearby tree with thick branches not too far off the ground. After deciding that remaining up there would be preferable to sleeping on the moist swampy ground, Maura grabbed her backpack and made a beeline for it. To anyone watching, they would see the kid go from a standstill to a full-on sprint toward the tree. She leapt toward it, grabbed a low-lying branch, and used the momentum to swing herself up onto it. That only put her five, almost six, feet off the ground though, so the padawan climbed her way up the trunk to the next branch.

Maura settled on the branch and remained perched there for a while just watching the others like a lurking cat. Anyone who glanced her way would easily be able to spot Maura from the eerie, greenlight light reflecting off her pupils from the light of the fire. After a bit, Maura's attention was grabbed by a strange shadow in the opposite treeline. It was coming from Grem, but looked nothing like him. It was much larger, looked nothing like him, and had a kind of weird shimmering on the outline of it. The girl did a double-take, then squinted at him and his apparent shadow as she tried to figure out if it really was coming from him or not. It gave her a weird feeling. Something felt off.

The kid would immediately begin to look for Felis, and when she found her, would call out, "FELIS! FELIS, COME HERE!" while furiously waving her hands at the padawan.

After he removed the faeces from his hair, Elidan returned to where the other Padawans had settled. They had prepared a camp and made a bonfire. It was illuminating the place, making shadows appear. If it wasn’t for everything that happened early, the half-Sephi would have thought that they were camping after they explore Mykr on their field trip.

Looking around, Elidan saw that some of the other Padawans were hurt. One seemed to have lost some of his hair, but the worst one was Thelian. The half-Sephi only had a glimpse of one of the Echani’s hands, but it was enough for him to notice that it was lacking part of two of his fingers. The auburn haired boy felt guilty, it was all his fault! He should never have piloted their ship.

When he saw the man seated at the stone, the boy frowned. Who was this? Then he would remember the guy that was with the caravan and shouted at them about the monsters. He wondered if the man was blind. How he didn’t see a bunch of children in the middle of the road? They weren’t even that small! Well, except Clove.
Clove, the last time that he saw the girl, she was unconscious by his side. Elidan hoped that his attempt of Force healing had been enough at least to alleviate her pain. He would look around, trying to find her. The boy felt so relieved when he saw her. She seemed to be well, only resting with her eyes closed.

Elidan would walk toward her, grateful that his hair wasn’t smelling bad anymore, so it would not make the others disgusted. He still wanted to know how it ended with faeces. The boy would stop near the half-Sephi and sit beside her. Thinking that she could have fallen asleep, he decided to not call her. Staring at the fire, Elidan would start to think about if they would be able to leave this place.

With her eyes closed, she was blissfully at peace. The leaves rustled in the breeze, crows cawed in the distance, and the Jedi all chatted amongst themselves. For a brief moment, the sound of fire caused her ears to twitch, and not long after, a pleasant warmth radiated from her body.

Sure, they were in a scary swamp with scary monsters and a strange caravan filled with strange bottles, but matters could've been far worse.

The half-Sephi had started to drift away, and she had completely missed the other half-Sephi who was sitting down next to her. She was too far away in her own bubble of safety, which was surprisingly peaceful and devoid of blood and skulls. It had to be because she was genuinely at ease and relaxed in the company of her friends.

Or the caravan had given her a concussion. A very likely option as well.

A peddle striking her forehead jolted her out of her slumber, causing her to yelp. She looked around the campsite for a moment, only to notice Elidan next to her and Kal on the other side of the camp, both staring at her intently. "Uhm. Do I?" She leaned over and opened her backpack with a scrunch of her nose. She leaned into the bag's opening, her upper body almost completely disappearing. She reappeared a minute or so later, her hands holding a brown can and her hair a mess.

That's right, she only drank chocolate milk for the first few months after Dantooine, which resulted in her having a large stash at home, one big enough for her to always carry a can with her.

"I got powder for hot chocolate, works with water, is better with milk. I'm afraid I don't have milk with me though, so water it is."

She tossed the can to Kal and shifted her gaze to Elidan. She had no idea what he had been going through since she passed out, and from her perspective, he appeared to be fine, albeit a little tired. "Hey, are you okay? You look like you could sleep for a year." she gave him a gentle smile.

Zana actually hadn’t seen Thelian’s injury until now. As soon as she saw the open, raw wound and the stump of what used to be a pinky and middle finger, her face changed colors. Thelian was saying some meaningful things, but none of it registered. She turned and immediately hurled, vomiting right next to the space beside her, which happened to be Varyn’s (@Phoenix ) shoes. The twi’lek looked highly alarmed, wiping her mouth off and placing a hand on Varyn’s shoulder, “Dude… I am.. So sorry.. That’s just...one of the grossest things I’ve ever seen and that’s after I watched Kalan be pooped out through a penis with teeth..”

She patted Varyn weakly on the shoulder before looking back at Thelian (@Altaris). Her eyes widened slightly, “Are you ok-” She was cut off when Clove arrived. Zana immediately cleared her throat and stepped back, not even realizing she had begun to move towards Thelian at some point. She focused her attention elsewhere, staring at nothing and preparing to walk off. Of course, he had his girlfriend to take care of him.

Zana paused when Clove (@LilyNion ) came up to her. She blinked a few times before taking the bandages. Despite her very confused feelings, she could never be angry at the half Sephi for any reason. She reached over and grasped her by the wrist as she began to walk away, “Hey,” Zana said quietly, “Please get some sleep. We’ll need you for the next time we all get banged up,” She managed a sheepish smile before releasing her.

The twi’lek exhaled and made her way towards the camp near the merchant. For a moment she sat there quietly cleaning and bandaging her wound. She was left with her own thoughts, reflecting on how much of an outcast she was. There wasn’t a single bit of appreciation for helping drag Kalam out or for even getting the wagon moving. None of them would be here if not for her quick thinking! Surges of unfamiliar anger coursed through her, but she rapidly thought about what it meant to be a Jedi. A Jedi’s life was sacrifice. It wasn’t a path paved with pats on the back or appreciation. It was doing good just because it was the right thing to do.

Zana exhaled and pushed her negative thoughts aside, looking over at the merchant. She had missed the exchange with Maura. She stared at him in silence, noticing the strange way his shadow reflected behind him. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she eyed him as she focused on the shadow for a while.

“Who are you, really? Just a traveling merchant?”

Thelian stared back at Zana as the twi’lek finally noticed the raw wound on his hand, a frown tugging at the corners of his lips. The Echani immediately looked somewhat uncomfortable by the amount of attention his injury was receiving, having clearly take note of the looks he’d been receiving from his peers. The way that Zana’s face changed colors and the girl proceeded to puke her guts out didn’t help either – eliciting a faint wince from Thelian.

While rarely someone who lacked in confidence, Thelian couldn’t help feeling exceptionally self-conscious in that moment, and it took a concerted effort not to shove his crippled hand into his pocket and out of sight. It was unlikely that he would ever get used to the loss of his fingers, and the reactions of those around him – especially Zana, for whatever reason – cut deep and only confirmed the freakish nature of his injury.

He cleared his throat, watching as Zana’s eyes widened and she began to take a few steps closer towards him. Thelian blinked a few times as the twi’lek started to speak and even opened his mouth as if he was about to respond to what he knew she was going to ask, only to be cut off by Clove’s sudden arrival.

The Echani clearly noted the way that the twi’lek stepped away, and his gaze lingered in Zana’s direction for a few moments as she walked off. A frown once more tugged at his lips for a split second before he flicked his attention to Clove, greeting the half-Sephi with his usual grumpy expression.

Unsurprisingly, the Echani looked visibly uncomfortable Clove tending to his hand – feeling an overwhelming urge to yank his injury away and keep moving in the opposite direction. He didn’t really see the need to do more than dump mystery potion onto the wound, and he had quite literally zero desire with anyone having an up close and personal view of his hand – once more feeling that pang of self-consciousness in his chest.

Nevertheless, Thelian remained exactly where he was. He knew that arguing with Clove was pointless, and so simply jutted his damaged hand towards her. “Fine.” He grumbled, silver eyes pointedly scowling at a random section of the wall during the entire process.

To his credit, the Echani didn’t give Clove much hassle as she cleaned the wound – merely exhaling sharply through his nostrils and wincing a few times throughout. When she finally finishing with the bandaging, Thelian raised his hand up to his face and flexed his remaining fingers a bit. “Thanks,” He muttered dryly, giving her a curt nod before turning and making his way completely out of the caravan.

Stepping back out into the fresh air, Thelian took a moment to take in his surroundings - silver eyes briefly flicking around the camp and the fire that had been started. He caught sight of Maura speaking with the merchant, briefly fixating onto the bottle that was handed off. His attention was then – briefly – drawn to Clove, not at all surprised to see the half-Sephi, once again, passed out in the dirt.

Finally, Thelian’s attention was drawn to Zana, watching the twi’lek girl for a moment as she cleaned her wounds. Without really thinking, the Echani began to take a few steps towards her before stopping abruptly - his mind immediately traveling to their interaction back on Chandrila. He chewed on his bottom lip for a moment before promptly turning on a heel.

Rather than continue towards the campfire, Thelian made his way right back into the caravan – passing through the entrance and making a beeline for the numerous shelves full of goods for sale. After all of the bullshit that they’d just been through, the Echani had a single item that he was searching for.

Without a moment of hesitation or an ounce of shame, the Echani began casually browsing through the merchant’s wares. After a few moments, he snagged a few ceramic cups and a long-handled, copper pot off of the shelf. After a few minutes of additional searching, Thelian found what appeared to be freshly ground coffee in a little sack, giving it a quick sniff before swiping it off the shelf. Alongside one of those yellow potions.

Naturally, the Echani had quite literally zero intention of paying Grem for a single damn thing. Not that he had the money to pay, anyway.

With that, Thelian finally made his way towards the campfire – seating himself on a rock as he laid out his pillaged supplies in front of him. As the Echani prepared to brew the coffee, he briefly glanced up towards the merchant – immediately fixating onto the way his shadow reflected strangely against the light of the fire.

He couldn’t help but narrow his eyes harshly, eyeing the man with clear suspicion. Without a word, Thelian picked up a rock near his foot, keeping the stone comfortably tucked into the palm of his hand. Rather than continue brewing his coffee – for the moment – Thelian kept his silver eyes fixated solely upon Grem, cautiously waiting for the response to Zana’s question.

To be honest my boy, I get most of them from an acquaintance of mine that lives in the wilds outside Haderion. Grem said to @Severus Creed, while using a long metal poker to stoke the fire. She keeps most of her mixes a closely guarded secret, an easy way to ensure repeat business I reckon.

Contemplation manifested on Grem’s face for a few moments, the soft orange glow of the fire dancing in his eyes. I do know the recipes for a couple of simple ones though. Remind me to write it down before we part ways. You'll need an alchemist's tome for the recipes to be of any real use, though. I couldn't tell you the difference between dandruff and a dandelion, myself. Grem chuckled a bit at his own statement as he continued to poke and prod the fire.

Grem's attention seemed to be preoccupied elsewhere as he sat on his rock and stared at the fire. That was, of course, until @Zana Ari pipped up with an interesting yet probing question. The portly merchant figured he shouldn't be surprised that someone had finally asked, though it was a.. complex question to answer.

So he wouldn't, or at least not completely.

Something like that, He said with a soft chuckle, turning his gaze to Zana. When you get to be my age you are never just one thing, lass. In the dim glow of the fire Grem's eyes caught the light strangely, shimmering just for a second like a nexu's when speeder headlights hit them just right.

Turning his attention to the angry one, Grem raised an eyebrow at @Thelian Lsai, a cautionary and bemused smirk creasing his lips. I'd be careful with that, friend. Belkadan caf isn't for the light hearted or.. less-fingered. Grem laughed at his own statement before turning back to Zana.

These days, I like to think of myself as mostly just a collector, He said with a shrug. There are many things you can find scattered across Belkadan that people will pay a pretty penny for, you just have to know where to look.

As the moon reached its zenith in the sky, creatures of the swamp descended on the padawans, slithering from the shadows, tongues flicking at the air with menace. There were five of them, at least thats how many could be seen, and they encircled the camp.

The creatures didn't seem to give any attempt to conceal their approach once they entered the area illuminated by the firelight and would fight with intent to kill anyone who got in their way. It seemed obvious that their goal was to reach the caravan, though for what reason was anyone's guess.

Well, anyone but Grem. He knew exactly why, though that information would remain only his for now. Drawing a small dagger from his belt, Grem would head for the caravan door, looking to guard it from the monsters.

He only hoped his new compatriots were able-bodied and willing enough to help defend his life and the caravan once again.

Zana stared at Grem as he spoke, the suspicious look on her face remaining. Her eyes widened as she saw the glint in his eye. There was something unnatural about it, but she couldn’t quite place it.

“I don’t think you’re being entirely honest,” She blurted out before she could stop herself. However, she was immediately embarrassed, her face flushing purple. She cleared her throat and looked away, “I… didn’t..mean to be rude..” She trailed off, thankful for the distraction that Thelian provided. For a moment she turned to regard him, surprised to find him here. She had expected him to remain with Clove, but he was instead out here with… her eyes narrowed slightly. Did he just jack that coffee pot and cups? He was casually laying them out as if making a picnic.

Zana shook her head, but said nothing about it, focusing back on the merchant for a moment to ask him more questions. However, she was immediately distracted when shadows began to move and loud hissing could be heard. Zana jumped to her feet, spotting giant, upright snakes barging into the scene to charge at the caravan.

There was no wheel to fix this time, and she knew the beasts couldn’t be allowed to descend on anyone that was severely injured or still inside. Zana had no weapons, but she quickly looked at the fire. Her mind began to run through the lessons she had in the academy. Master Guloo once taught them all about reptiles and being cold blooded. It was a precursor to the more advanced courses which would later teach them animal bond as a Force technique. No one here was skilled enough to try that trick with these very angry beasts, so that was not an option.

However, cold blooded meant the snakes would be especially susceptible to searing heat. Zana wasted no time, pouring her energies into coiling the Force around one of the snakes. She yanked with all her might in an attempt to throw the beast directly into the campfire to set it ablaze.

The pain in his chest had become just a mild ache at this point, something he was thankful for. At least Grem was honest about the potions. Everyone was on the road to recovery, it seemed, and he couldn't be more relieved about that. Some would take longer to fully recover than others, and others still would need professional medical assistance once they found a way off this planet. He took this respite as a chance to enjoy the warmth of the fire and meditate for the time being.

Though as the night went on, something felt amiss. He opened his eyes and looked around, hand on his saber as he heard noises coming from the marsh. He wondered if those creatures had returned. The answer made itself clear as a group of five snake-like beings slithered towards the camp, brandishing long curved swords. He wished he could admire the craftsmanship, but unfortunately they were hostile and descended upon the camp and slithered towards the caravan. Why the caravan specifically, though and not ambush the people outside? Something bothered him about this...he watched as Grem took up a defensive position at the door. Toki's curiosity would have to wait. He jumped slightly as Zana flung one of them into the fire. That was certainly effective. Now he'd take his chance against one of the others.

Toki held his saber in his hand, waiting for the right moment to strike as he stepped in front of one of the snakes. It hissed at him indignantly and raised its weapon. He calmly focused on dodging the swipes. One diagonal aimed for his chest, another to the side, aimed to disembowel him. He deftly ducked and weaved against the snake's assault. He narrowed his eyes as the snake raised its blade high...this was the chance. He lunged forward, igniting his blade and cleanly slashed across its vulnerable underbelly, cutting a deep and wide gasp along its body as he sidestepped around the creature. He kept a reasonable distance, unsure if that would have been enough to kill it outright.

To say that Thelian was incredibly distrustful of Grem was perhaps the understatement of the century. The abruptly way that the merchant was arrived on a scene, combined with the strange way his shadows moved with the light, left the Echani filled with suspicion. His silver gaze only narrowed harsher when he caught sight of the glint in the merchant’s eye, catching the light like that of a feline.

“Neither do I.” He hissed, his grip on that stone growing a bit tighter. Whereas Zana might’ve been embarrassed by her apparent rudeness, Thelian had quite literally no qualms about being blunt in his assessment. There was something off about the man, even if he couldn’t quite figure out what.

The Echani shook his head after a moment, turning his attention back to the coffee pot. He quietly dropped a few spoonfuls of fresh coffee grounds into the copper pot, followed by enough water to fill each of the ceramic cups he’d laid out. He finally placed the copper pot close to the fire, digging it down a few inched into the hot sand just infront of the burning logs.

He briefly glanced up towards Zana, looking a bit awkward as he looked up at the twi’lek. He opened his mouth as if to say something, only to be cut off when Grem butted in with his smug warning about Belkadan caf. Once more, the Echani’s eyes narrowed harshly – while his uninjured fist balled tightly. Thelian rose up off the ground a bit, glaring down at the man. “I’m about to shove my foot so far up your ass you’re going to be spitting boot leather, friend.” He hissed.

Before he could make good on the promise, Thelian’s attention was immediately drawn away by the shadows moving in the distance. His eyes went slightly wide as the snake-men emerged from the forest, making a beeline for their group and the caravan ahead.

Without really putting a lot of thought into it, Thelian sprang to his full height and drew his hand back – throwing that stone directly at one of the charging snake-men. Unfortunately, the combo of potions he’d downed earlier were clearly having an effect – as the rock soured a solid five feet over the snake-man’s head and vanished beyond the treeline.

Blinking a few times, Thelian watched as Zana abruptly reached out with the Force, yanking one of the snake-men into the campfire. It wasn’t until that moment that the Echani considered that the creatures might’ve been suspectable to heat – especially considering that he’d skipped the vast majority of Master Guloo’s classes.

Without a second thought, the Echani reached down and grabbed the heated coffee pot from the fire before charging towards one of the approaching snake-men. Without a moment to waste, Thelian chucked the boiling coffee towards the reptile – attempting to scald him with the super-heated liquid.

Whether or not he was successful, the Echani then proceeded to take a swing at the reptile with that heated coffee pot – attempting to bludgeon the creature with the hot metal.

Grem's answer was almost half-expected. Severus still wasn't sure if he was simply hiding certain information so he still held all the aces, but at least he was willing to give Severus an alchemist's tome. That thought made him smirk a bit.

"I won't forget. I'd like to meet that acquaintance of yours as well, if you get the chance." If Severus could master potions, he could surely give the Jedi an edge over the Sith and was already into making certain fluids out of the plants he had in his dorm. If he could get his hands on one of those tomes- and maybe he could get Grem's supplier to spill a little bit of knowledge to further this endeavor of his. But for now, Severus was going to continue to look into who Grem really was- not that "Grem" wasn't his name, but if he was hiding something or not- which became more and more obvious the longer a time Severus spent with him.

Then, Severus could sense it moving through the forest- no, not an it, for it was a group; a them. Severus grunted bitterly as he stood up, igniting...or, activating- it was weird and Severus couldn't find quite the right word for it, but his great-sword was ready. That was what mattered anyhow.

Taking a defensive stance, Severus readied his blade for the onslaught, preparing quick and decisive counter attack in case any of the Yuan-Ti (which meant Snake-Man in an old language Severus researched) reached him and the Caravan. Severus gave Grem a skeptical glance as he did the same thing- this guy was probably twice Severus's age and from the looks of it, wasn't suffering from any injuries- what a coward. Severus couldn't believe himself, but he was riding on Thelian's boat labeled "This Shithead is Strange" but wouldn't ever admit that he agreed with the ridiculous Echani, just out of spite.

Elidan’s musings were interrupted when Clove yelped. He quickly turned to the girl. Since he wasn’t looking at her, the auburn-haired boy didn’t see the pebble hit her forehead and wake the girl up. For him, she was having some type of nightmare. Poor Clove, after surviving a ship crashing and being run over by a caravan, it didn’t surprise him that she was having problems to sleep. This made the boy feel even more guilty.

Yes, I’m fine. Only a bit tired.” he signed to her. Elidan had decided to only use his Datapad for emergencies, this way he would economize the battery. “And you? How are you feeling? I tried to heal you, but I don’t know if it worked.” he only hoped that his efforts were enough to at least alleviate her pain. As soon as they returned to the Jedi Temple, the boy was going to train more Force healing. If they returned.

The half-Sephi shouldn’t think this way, he needed to have hope. They would find a way to leave this planet and return to Yavin IV. Looking at the other Padawans around the fire, Elidan once again thought that it looked like they were innocently camping after a day of their field trip on Mykr and not trying to survive on an unknown planet. It was all his fault.

Then he heard a sound. It reminded him of a snake hissing, but it was louder. Turning to where it was coming, Elidan stared wide eyed at the monsters that were approaching them. The creatures seemed to be giant snakes with arms. He never read anything about such beings before. The way that they were approaching the group, made obvious that these snake-people were aggressive.

Since it was his fault for them having crashed on this planet, Elidan would not allow his friends to get hurt. Deciding to protect the other Padawans and hoping to be useful, the half-Sephi would pick his lightsaber/sword from his backpack and charge against one of the creatures.

Holding the hilt of his sword firmly with his two hands, Elidan would approach one of the snake-people. Wanting to finish the snake as fast as he could, the boy would aim to cut the arm of the creature, which was holding a sword. While he tried to do it, the Padawan would need to avoid being hit by the snake’s weapon.

Elidan had turned around to face her and started a conversation in sign language while she waited for what would have been the best hot chocolate of her life, if only because she really wanted some hot chocolate in front of a campfire. Despite her tiredness and pounding head, she managed to keep up with the conversation. Even if it was just to practice, her hands rose into the air and she began to sign back to him. "That's fantastic news. Also, thank you for your help. It helped a lot." Sure, her sign language wasn't perfect, and she didn't know words like healing, but she'd come a long way since Elidan began helping her in learning the language.

The sound of grass rustling and a snake hissing alerted the group before the conversation could progress any further. Clove leapt to her feet, her right hand tightening around her bag's strap as she scanned the area.

Out of the bush came five weird snake-like creatures with arms. In all of her life she's seen plenty of strange aliens, but literal snake people with arms?

Awesome! If only they weren't so aggressive.

The Jedi didn't waste any time in fighting them, and everyone, including Elidan next to her, joined in. The half-Sephi wanted to join in as well, but as soon as she removed her lightsaber from her belt, the world spun around her. She blinked a few times, trying to fix her vision or remove the lightheadedness. But she couldn't even grasp the hilt or distinguish between a branch and a snake arm. At best, she'd attack a tree; at worst, she'd hurt herself or her allies.

No, that wasn't going to work.

She threw her hilt back onto her belt and dashed towards the caravan, making a grumpy mumbly sound in the process. If she couldn't assist them with fighting, she could at least assist them by removing herself from danger and trying to gain an overview of the area so that others could be warned. Or, well, as much overview as her eyes allowed, anyway. She put the backpack over her shoulder securely enough to keep it from falling down, then hopped up the ladder to the top of the caravan with nimble feet.

Climbing a ladder with one mangled hand, a throbbing mess of a nose, a heavy bag, and what she could only imagine was a concussion, wasn't ideal. But it was better than parkouring up the caravan! So she managed to climb up the caravan's roof and place her backpack next to her without too many problems.

Even her heels managed to survive!

To make herself less of an obvious target, the half-Sephi knelt close to her bag and maintained an eye on the field to alert anyone of any surprise attacks.

Varyn spent the first part of his watch sitting up and trying to clean the vomit off of his boots that Zana had so kindly deposited there. You knew you were in a bad spot when you were putting swamp water on your boots over what was already on your boots. On the bright side, the boots were at least kind of waterproof.

He also tried to push the thought of someone pooping through their penis out of his mind. In other words, it wasn't really the best night of Varyn's life.

After a few hours, the darkness had set in and he was getting more and more tired. The exertion of the day, adrenaline of the fight, and general state of anxiety left him with a splitting headache and some incredibly heavy eyelids.

When he was on the verge of falling asleep, he got slapped upside the head with another bout of adrenaline. Snake monster people were pressing their way through the camp, and everyone was already leaping to attack and defense.

He hit the button for his saber-sword-thing and dropped from his perch, darting toward the closest of the monster people and hoping that his positioning might make it so he had the element of surprise.

He held his weapon in two hands, sending a diagonal slash down in an attempt to chop it through at the neck. Whether he would find any success remained to be seen.
