While Eulalia walked toward his meeting with Grandmaster Voran, she thought about all that had happened with the Order recently. The constant defeats to the Sith, the accusations of being warmongers and the terrible actions of some Jedi against civilians. All that culminated with their banishment from the Core Worlds, an event that not even the Public Relations of the Order could avoid.

These events made the half-Morellian think that the Jedi Order needed urgently to change its image for the Galaxy, or they would lose all the support that they still had. When the Empire was seen as a better option than the Jedi, it was obvious that they did something wrong.

Was about the future of the Jedi that the Knight was going to meet with Voran. She needed the support of the Grandmaster to pursue what she had planned, with her permission being necessary to make public statements. Of course, if her ideas were approved. She believed that it was going to happen, being prepared to argue with Alex to defend her point of view.

Good morning, Master Voran.” Eulalia said, when she entered the Grandmaster’s room. She was calm and prepared for their discussion. The future of the Jedi Order could be depending of what would be decided today.

Alex stared at the wall. Her mind far afield as she surfed the waves of the Force. Why? She no longer could say most days. She searched but for what she had nearly forgotten. Answers? She would find none. Peace? She’d given up that dream long ago. No, she rode the Force because she still had hoped some mystical resolution would flick into her mind. It never did.

Alex slowly retreated into her own mind. The world became more dull as she folded her thoughts together. She sighed, rubbing her tired eyes. The expected knock at the door came shortly thereafter.

“Come in Eulalia.” Alex had dropped the formalities within the Order. The Jedi were her family. They should be treated as such. “Sit, please.” She gestured at one of the chairs opposite her desk. “How can I help?” Her voice was soft, her face calm, and her signature in the Force perfectly still. Alex may struggle with internal turmoil but the greater Order would never know.

Eulalia accepted Alex's invitation and immediately moved to take the seat that was being offered to her. Now in front of the Grandmaster, the half-Morelian could see how she looked tired. The weight of the responsibility of guiding the Order seemed to be taking a great toll on her.

It made the Knight wonder if she should tell Alex the ideas that she had. While they could be seen as controversial, they could still give some relief to the Grandmaster. After all they would deal with many of the problems that were troubling her.

Master, as one of the Order public relation agents, I’m very aware of the problems that we are facing. For many in the Galaxy, we became synonymous with war and death.” Eulalia decided to be direct. Alex probably already knew all of that, being unnecessary for her to sugar coat what was happening. “The opinion about us is so low that there is people that prefer to be under the Sith, rather than talking with us.

To solve this problem, I believe that the Order needs to stop its military approach to the Galaxy. We basically became the army that the Free Worlds Alliance don’t have, constantly doing invasions for them.” the close ties with the FWA was a problem to the Jedi. While having political allies was good, being seen as their military wasn’t going to win many hearts for the Order. Even more now that the Alliance was breaking a part and was seen as incompetent.

I believe that we need to stop acting military and start to focus more on diplomacy and giving aid to the planets in need. We should start to give more humanitarian help to the independent planets, trying to win them by showing that the Order wants peace.” Eulalia rarely saw the Jedi doing it these days. Between war and polemics, the Order seemed to have lost their true purpose, helping the weak.

I propose that we make more use of Jedi Diplomats, sending them across the Galaxy to solve disputes and to win the hearts of the people. We could also create a group inside the Order to be responsible for humanitarian acts.” in Eulalia’s mind, the way to win the opinion of the Galaxy was through this peaceful approach, rather than trying to subdue the Sith.

There is one last thing that would also help us. Make peace with the Sith.” Eulalia made silence for a moment, studying the Grandmaster’s reaction. Then she explained why such a radical idea could help the Jedi. “This war is exhausting us more than them. We free planets for the FWA, but they are incapable of defending them by themselves.

If we offer peace and they accept, then we can have some rest and show to the Galaxy that we are changing ways. However, if they refuse, we could show their hypocrisy, because the Empire nowadays seems to paint themselves as peaceful and victim.” she tried to show that her idea had some sense. “In the case of peace being accepted, we can start to work in recovering our image and making new allies. Perhaps even helping allied planets to organize themselves. I’m certain that the Sith will continue plotting against us and peace will not last longer, but we need to have the Empire being the one to break it.

“Eulalia…we have tried.” The sorrow in Alex’s voice was unmistakable. The pain from years of trial and failure. She shook her head slowly. “The Sith will not have peace. I would give my life to see this war end. Anything to stop the bloodshed. The deaths serve only to fuel the Darkside.” She leaned forward. Setting her elbows carefully on the desk. “I am keenly aware of public perception, but what would you have us do? Let the Free Worlds burn?” Alex put her hands up with palms out. “I agree with you. We must approach things differently…but I won’t stand down our forces. I can’t. Ajan Kloss will not happen again while I sit in this chair.” For a great many years, she had rebuffed war efforts. She had promised and sworn to keep the militarization at bay. Her mind had changed as the losses piled up.

“We need to focus more on our diplomatic efforts. If you wish to lead the charge, you have my blessing for whatever resources you need.” She drummed her fingers on the desk. “I will not sanction peace talks with the Sith…not on a galactic scale…and not yet. If you show me this can work, I’ll reconsider.” That was as good as she could give for now. Alex agreed they needed to try something new. She was simply unwilling to expose their throat to do so.

While Eulalia understood the reasons that Alex didn’t want to make peace with the Sith, the Knight still believed that it could give the Order some more time to prepare for future clashes. “I understand, Master. However, if they at least accepted a truce, it could give us some time to regroup.

Our resources and allies are becoming ashes faster than we can recover.” Kashyyyk and New Alderaan were only the two most recent examples in a large list. “If we could turn our open war into a cold war, it would be enough for us to recover. It would give us time to make more allies and organize our defenses.

“What brings us to my other idea. With the use of diplomacy, we can try to help the planets that are our allies and aren’t under the FWA to organize themselves in a type of defensive alliance. The Sith will come to them and they are easy targets.” the Order would never lead a government by itself, but they could at least teach others how to do it.

With time, the neutral planets that become allied with us could also join such an alliance. We only need to put our diplomats to work with it, perhaps even calling a conference with these leaders.” if such a thing would work or not, only the Force knew. At least it was better than waiting for their doom.
