The Senator’s Ball; Corellia
The Music the Band is playing

The planet of Corellia, home to a great many things, fallen star destroyers, spice runners, famous pilots and a conflicted Senator. However, this chapter in Corellia’s story takes place in a magnificent penthouse, packed to the brim of guests of all species’ and affiliations, all there with one singular goal, to donate to Senator Rossana Snowell’s campaign, and to discuss what they’d like her to do in the senate.

Rossana does not like stuffy and boring donation drives so this is what she whips up. Long and loud speeches by her and her political allies become a long night of dancing and fun, voter registration becomes a large open bar, one on one deals go from closed door meetings to whispered murmurs during the tango.

The two floor party palace is located in a penthouse in Corellia’s largest city. The only way in is through the elevator from the ground floor or the landing pad, both area’s are heavily guarded to prevent any ill-intentioned folks from sneaking into the formal event. All guests must have proof of their intent to donate and discuss, ie formal wear, credits and no weapons.

The layout is pretty simple, the elevator opens up to the main space, which is halfway split between a dance floor and a dining area, where classical music fills the air from the stage right next to the dance floor, alongside aromas from the large and high quality buffet. On either side of the room there are staircases leading to the second level, where there is a bar, more tables and a locked doorway leading to the master suite, where Senator Rossana is due to spend the night after the festivities die out in the early hours of the morning. There is another staircase on the second floor, this one leads to the roof, which is a glass fence enclosed area with a landing pad and Chauffeurs eager to fly your ship to the docking area in the next building over. Yet the show stealing feature is the shield covered credit storage unit in the center of the entryway, guarded by security and one accountant, it is where all the donations of the night end up going.

Senator Snowell herself freely moves about the party, donning a shorter haircut and a sparkly silver dress with matching heels, the Senator is eager to discuss things with anyone who cares to join her. Currently, the red headed woman was greeting guests at the elevator, supping on a glass of champagne in her hand, as the few remaining folks began to arrive.

If the senator from Kattada knew one thing, it was how to get people talking. The last the galaxy had seen from York, he was being escorted out of the Senate building by a Sector Ranger, accused of a crime. Of course, his team would spin it as the larger worlds trying to prevent the little words from having a voice. The big boys were trying to control the narrative. The politicians of the huge corporate core worlds were ready to give up the sovereignty and voice of the FWA worlds to Thorne for contracts and a steady stream of credits.

What the galaxy had not seen recently is York himself. He made bail and immediately started making contacts and diversifying his portfolio. With the galaxy in such an uneasy state, war was a very real possibility. Part of York's diversification process was to buy stock, shares and ownership in various industries that would benefit from war. One of those was the Corellian Starfighter Corporation, or the Cor-SF Corp. Their starfighters had never really gotten any traction, but York was impressed with some of their concepts and designs for combat bikes. Companies that made starfighters, destroyers, and battleships were sexy, but controlling the planet on the ground is what determines a planet's alignment. He thought the company had a shot to really take off, so he met with the CEO, bought a sizeable amount of company shares, and just like that, York was invested into the FWA's military industrial complex. The fact that it was a Corellian company was an added bonus.

Better yet, the CEO could not attend Senator Snowell's ball, but his sister, Georgianna Styler, begged to go in his place. She fit the bill to represent the company as VP of Policy and Community Relations. She was also a very pretty widow and in York's age of appropriateness for dates. She had a smile made for the cameras and fiery red hair that made her stand out in the crowd. The CEO asked if his new investor, a senator himself, would be willing to escort his sister to the ball, and York struggled to control his smile as he said he would be honored.

York and Styler hit it off early in the night. He made her laugh and she thought he was handsome enough. Both were socialites, and had no trouble getting comfortable with each other. The company shuttle landed on the pad. They had the shuttle door opened for them, and arm in arm, the pair headed to the elevators with smiles on their faces. There were people taking pictures. Whether it was the press or people associated with the Senator's campaign for press clippings later, York didn't know. But, my, how he wished it was the press and headlines would run- "YORK REEMERGES AT CORELLIAN SENATOR'S FUNDRAISING EVENT." Let the Coruscant senator wonder what that was all about.

As the elevator doors opened, York was surprised to see Senator Snowell herself meeting the guests. He had not met her personally, but York never acted like met a stranger. He smiled wide and acted as if his arrest in the senate building never occurred. "Senator Snowell!" York said happily. He would lean over to kiss her cheek in a dapper, formal way if she let him. "Senator, please meet Georgianna Styler, Vice President of policy at Cor-SF Corp. Georgianna, Senator Snowell."

York would lift a brow with an easy grin as he watched to see what Snowell's reaction would be to his arrival.

Formal events. They were the bane of cops and military alike, and unfortunately for Trench, he was both. So the former Corellian SpecOps Staff Sergeant was back on Corellia to support Senator Snowell, a woman who adamantly was against the corruption and gang presences on the planet. And as a Sector Ranger that was personally tied to the warfare with the gangs it was only sensical to send him to represent. That, and the Chief had a wicked sense of humor.

Dressed in his most formal attire (forgoing to dress in his Corellian dress blues), he showed up in his letharis jacket and black button up shirt with matching black slacks. And you guessed it, the shoes were black too. Marching up the steps, he caught sight of Senator York, of course there was likely an ulterior motive to sending Rangers to such an event. Armed with his blasters, holstered beneath the jacket, he would waited to greet the Senator.

Yup. He looked around seeing nothing but stiffs. "Yeah.. that's about right.." he mused. And then he cursed, beneath his breath, of course. "Dammit Bast, don't tell me you snuck off and left me all alone here. C'mon girl.." he mused as he checked his comm. She was a crafty one, Bast. He'd be sure to get her back for this one.

Senator Snowel was just finished shaking hands with a cousin of a sister of a man who donated to her campaign. Flashing the man a leaving smile she took notice of the ship that had arrived, out of it came Senator York and Georgianna Styler, recognizing them both but never having met either of them she sauntered towards them and gleefully said, “Ah, I’m so glad you’re here. You have my deepest gratitude,” Pausing to allow the Senator to peck her cheek she giggled and added “My, Senator York it’s good to finally meet you on a more personal level. And it’s nice to meet you as well Vice President Styler, I am overjoyed you two chose to attend. Especially with your recent absence of sorts Senator, I’m sure the press will have a field day, they are here in small numbers.” She gestured behind her to the horde of photographers snapping photos of the group, “Most of them are from my campaign, but those from the paparazzi are the one’s taking exorbitant amounts of photos.” Her eyes twinkled with joy as she gave a broad smile to the the pair, before adding, “I believe you will be the last high profile guest to arrive as the window of arrival is dwindling, so I hope you don’t mind if I walk in stride with you for a while at the ball.”

Rosanna also noticed another of her guests that she hadn’t greeted yet, a sector Ranger by the name of Jericho Trent, recognizing that he would undoubtedly have important things to discuss as well, she gestured to him to come join the threesome. “Mr. Trench, I believe I haven’t greeted you yet either, welcome! Come over here, I’m sure the four of us will have much to discuss!”

If the Corellian senator was annoyed with York showing up, she did a fine job of hiding it. She even pretended to be happy about his coming. Believable too. Georgianna was perfect as well, taking the hand in both of hers, saying something witty and laughing that high-dollar, classy female laugh. York's handsome grin shifted over to one side. She did look good on his arm. No doubt about that.

And, oh, happy he was to hear that the press and paparazzi were here. Hopefully, they would get some shots of York getting chatty with the Corellian senator. When she asked if she could walk them for a while, York thought that was a splendid idea. He would no doubt take a circular route to his table nearest the photographers. "Senator Snowel, this night is all about you and your continued service for Corellia. You should be able to do as you please," York said behind a smile. "And if you want to spend some time with Georgianna and me, we would be absolutely honored."

She called over a man named Mr. Trent. He looked like a genuine tough guy if not a bit out of place. Head of Security maybe? CorSec maybe? Maybe he owned a business that dealt in weapons or armor. He didn't seem a man who dealt in Corellian ships or banking or real estate. "Mr. Trent, Soygun York. I'm but the humble guest of Ms. Styler tonight." He would introduce the VP of Cor-SF Corp and was thinking that so far, the night was panning out even better than expected.

The searching for Bast was thwarted by the sudden noticing of Senator Snowel. Kark it all to hell. He would put on a smile and stepped around York to properly address the Senator. "Sergeant Trench is fine." he offered to the Senator. "Been awhile since we crossed paths, Senator, you got a wicked memory."

At York's greeting, Trench would turn to face him. One hand would move to rest on his hip, revealing his Sector Ranger badge, as he offered his hand to the Kattada Senator. "Senator York, I've heard so many things about you. Good to finally meet." He would then bow his head to Yorks date. "Ms. Styler, your company builds some nice machines."

York smiled and nodded to the Ranger. "Sgt. Trench, been watchin the Holos, have you?" York would laugh it off as he took the Ranger's hand to give it a very businesslike handshake. He knew that Trench very likely was not referring to the Holos. York knew he was being investigated by the Rangers. The whole galaxy knew that York was being investigated by the Rangers. What York didn't know was if Trench's comment about hearing so much about him was a veiled threat about the investigation or a simple greeting. Either way, clever boy.

"Thank you, Sgt. Trench," Georgianna would say. "Coming from someone with law enforcement experience, that means a lot."

A droid server walked by carrying a tray full of glasses of champagne. York took one for himself and one for Georgianna. He was more of a high dollar brandy man himself, but galas and balls are a different sort of event. Georgianna smiled and thanked him for the drink.

York looked at Senator Snowel and Sgt. Trench and asked,
"You two seem familiar. How how did you two get to be such strong acquaintances?"
